Goings on

I'm currently reading Atlas Shrugged for the first time...I'm about half way through and all I can say is holy shit! It's all come true. I recommend it to anyone who might still have any illusions about where our world is headed.

I was depositing a couple of checks the other day and as I was waiting in line at the bank a Mexican guy in work clothes tried to cash a check without any identification whatsoever. I could understand enough Spanish to gather that much...the surprising thing is after talking to the manager they let him...I think I need to find a new bank. There was only one teller so about 15 of us are standing in line for what seems like forever waiting to make our deposits...finally I said "Fuck this!" walked out and pulled into one of the the drive up banking lanes. I had my checks deposited in under 2 minutes.

I got home and saw the pneumatic banking canister laying on the seat next to me...Shit! I was tempted to just throw it away but my conscience got the better of me so I went back to the bank to put it in the holder but the little door was shut on the canister return. I had to actually walk back inside and hand it to the teller... and the same people were standing waiting in line from before...talk about sheeple...

Oh well here are some funnies:

We call it the African mudslide!

I'm not tipping that Valet.

I read Atlas Shrugged for the first time earlier this year. Then my sister and my son read it. All I can say is ... Ayn Rand was a prophet. Scary, scary stuff.

Who is John Galt?

Hammer, when you finish Atlas Shrugged, may I suggest The 5000 Year Leap. It is an eye-opening history of how this country was founded. Not a thriller by any stretch of the imagination but a meticulous account of how our constitution was constructed and what it has done for this country and free people.

Hammer, I also am reading Atlas shrugged for the first time.
The foresight is incredible. What is also amazing is the way she got it right for the USA and Orwell got it right for the UK or as I describe it FGB (formerly great britain)in 1984.
There must have been something in the air or water in the fifties that led to such vision.

Ayn Rand is a fabulous author. She was SO smart about what would happen financially in the world, every single thing she predicted has come true.

I loved her take onthe economic situation - what would work and what wouldn't - shown so clearly through using the railroad and the steel mills as an example - in Atlas Shrugged.

Who is John Galt ? Hank Reardon. Dagny. James Taggart. Francisco.

The Fountainhead is excellent as well, Hammer. Another true expose of human behavior, what works and what doesn't.

Atlas Shrugged became one of my all time favorite books the first time I read it- 8 years ago. I'm glad you've found it. I re-read it once a year. A is A.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the most comment-worthy part of this post was the kids sliding out the elephant's ass...

Great minds think alike!

That's one book that has been highly touted that I have never read and I have no idea why I never read it either. Loved the funnies today. You are sooooo bad!

Or was it the valet remembered not being tipped last time?

I am the only full time teller at a bank. Believe me its a pain in the ass. If someone does not have ID and a bank employee can verify them then its OK. As far as being the only teller you can go 30 minutes without seeing a soul and then 10 people will walk in at the same time. You can never get the scheduling right. Not only am I the only full time person but I am also the supervisor with really no one to supervise.

I have to go back and re-read Atlas Shrugged. You are correct...it is a good book!

Yeah, I would get a new bank as well Hammer...that was just all wrong.

Ayn Rand is one of my favorite writers! Atlas Shrugged is great and scary prophetic. The Fountainhead was an interesting read as well. Good choice for reading material there!

Read AS for the 1st time about a month ago. I really liked it, but way too long, especially the speech part of Gault, when he takes over the radio. (Yeah, I know the presents the whole theme or theology of the book)

This is one fiction that I won't be surprised it it became fact. Hope not. But once you read it, you can see the Looters everywhere-LOL.

And then there was a love interest- this surprised me. I wasn't expecting that.

I read John Ringo's -the Last Centenarian- right along these lines also plus add a pandemic plague to the mix and see how government control messes up everything. Good read also.

Ayn Rand was a Russian national who saw the failures of collectivism first-hand. That's why she was so opposed to any sort of it.
Atlas Shrugged gets a bit wordy at times (like during the aforementioned John Galt speech) but it's a chillingly prophetic work.
We could certainly use a man like Hank Reardon to talk to Congress these days.
