Weekend stuff

My dad has been really wanting me to go out to the club where all his veteran buddies hang out.

I gave him my extra karaoke machine a few years ago and he's been taking it out to the club and all the old and returning vets have been out there singing on Friday nights. He called me up and said, "that machine you gave me was a real blessing because everyone has such a great time with it."

So I thought I'd surprise him by showing up at the club Friday night. The place was empty so I had a couple of beers and was about to take off when a friend of my dad's came in and started packing up all the Karaoke gear.

He said, Your dad is having a big party out at his ranch, you should go out there.

I picked up some more beer and headed over., he was surprised to see me show up because I'm hardly ever able to go except on Sundays. There was a huge gang out there, almost all retired military and their families. It was the first time I had sang in about 5 years. I was a little rusty but it was all in good fun. Everyone had a great time. I kept picking songs from the 70's for my dad to sing. Even his harpy wife Samantha behaved herself.

We spent today cleaning up the house for my mom's bi-annual visit. She is coming into town for business so she is stopping by for a couple hours tomorrow.

It's my brother in laws birthday and we were supposed to go have dinner over there but the wife told her mom we weren't coming. I don't particularly like celebrating the peckerhead's birthday, he hasn't remembered to call his sister on her birthday or send a card since I've known him but I know he's going pout like a little bitch next time I see him.

I hear you on Birthdays. We have members of our family that have these big elaborate parties every year for their immediate family. You feel obligated to go and the whole time you are staring at the clock trying to figure out if you have been there long enough. The hell with me if I am lucky enough to have another birthday because I wont even get a call. Which is fine because I always the same thing every year for my birthday. To have another one!

In-laws and step-relatives...oh boy!

Sounds like you had a great time with your pop, though!

You gotta love karaoke! Anyone can sing and you don't even have to be good if everyone's drinking enough.

Glad you had fun with your Dad. I miss mine alot.
I hear ya on the birthday stuff. Hubs parents anniversary, sis birthday and bro birthday are all on the same day, so there's usually a bbq to celebrate. And I have to go get the gift for butthead bro-in-law who doesn't really like me. Come the end of the year, when it's me and hubs birthday and our anniversary, our well wishes get squeezed in at their Thanksgiving dinner. For our 25th, BIL did give us a little cash for our Cancun trip but it was the first time he'd recognized anything having to do with me in many years. The celebration they planned (and only because Sis-in-law was nice enough to want to do something) was a cake from the grocery store that we ate at the tail end of the holiday dinner in a loud restaurant with a bad waitress. They didn't even think our 25th deserved it's own party. Should have known, turkey day had it's fair share of turkeys. LOL Eh, that's okay, we left for Mexico a couple days later and had our fun!!!

Given your penchant for the lovely terms -"harpy wife" and "Peckerhead" as a name for your BIL, if some of my friends who know my full vocabulary really well were to read this post without being told who had written it, they might think, based on those words alone, that it was one of my own posts!
Obviously, I appreciate your terminology as I'm sure you would agree with me when I say then, "Great minds run in the same channels." That's true, isn't it?

hammer - be sure to get a recording of your dad's karaoke antics - one of the best gifts i've received to date is a recording of my dad singing from one of his best friends at his funeral - his friend did such a great job on it and even put a photo of him and my mom on the sleeve.

I have refused to remember family birthdays for about 25 years, yet for some of them it still stings.
