Musings

Celebrities... If you've known me for any length of time you know I'm not a media whore and I hold utter disdain for all things popular. I've come face to face with several celebrities and I ignored them like they weren't there. Even if I liked the particular actor, I wouldn't dream of bothering them.

The only exception was when I worked in a Bar where Augie Meyers was playing. I bought him a beer, shook his hand and thanked him for his music and that was it.

I'm so sick of hearing about the woes and poor decisions made by friends and family. You know, when I fuck up, I kick myself in the nuts, learn from my mistake and then I don't talk about it again. It's bad enough when I replay my screw up over and over in my head. I don't think that hashing it out for attention and sympathy is going to do myself or anyone else one iota of good.

These days when someone gives me shit, goes off on me, or does something that really pisses me off , I don't stew about it. I immediately take action and demand to be treated with respect. Life is too short for "I shoulda woulda said this or that'... just fucking do it. A coward dies a thousand deaths...That is about the truest statement I've ever heard.

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone young or old...here it is...don't take no shit off nobody.

You might have to bide your time if it's a cop or a judge but you are better off standing up for what's right because getting the shit kicked out of you is usually a lot better than the inner turmoil caused by not doing anything. A predator can smell easy prey a mile away. Don't be a willing or compacent victim whether it be on the streets or in the bosses office.

Well...this post hits home for me with the kid I saw in the sandwich shop.

Yep.

I know for me personally I have held back out of fear that something physically bad would happen to me and my kid would be screwed without me.

It was also this reasoning that got me to quit smoking.

Good post Hammer. It's got me thinking.

This sounds like my Hubby. He doesn't take it from anybody either. I wish that I were more assertive. Maybe one day I can be a Steele Magnolia.

Every once in a while I throw myself a pity party...but I try to get over it quickly. I will admit that lately I have been a big whiner...Time to get the appropriate people to be the proud riders of the short bus!

Taking responsibility for your own actions, refusing to do drama, and having healthy boundaries are outstanding.

I don't do anything that would end me in front of a judge or cop. And people who do and then whine about it garner neither respect nor sympathy in my book.

Standing up for yourself in relationships be they personal or professional can be done with courtesy and firmness.

Stay away from the places where the assclowns are. As my Dad said, when you lie down with dogs that have fleas, you get fleas.

Hmmm....To a certain extent I think I do very well by going with the flow and not standing up for every little thing. But on something important I would have to stand my ground.

I was never as outspoken as my sister, and even to the point of almost cowardly.

AFter I got married, it changed a tiny bit. But after I had my son, and especially when he got school age. I don't take shit off nobody. EVER!!!!!

i'm with you, hammer - life is too short to mince words - i prefer the chop and dice method!

you have no idea how many times i was openhand smacked across the face as a child or had hotsauce AND soap - just made me worse actually.

the one thing i've learned tho is to be diplomatic in my tactics...you know...where it is blatantly apparent i mean what i say and no other words need to be said.

I ::LOVE:: this post. I started the "not taking shit" from anybody at about the age of 36. Now at 48, I'm serious about it.
Hopefully my daughters will learn this from me early on, I've already told one boy to stay the fuck away, because I DON'T like the way he treats my daughter.

I backed down so many times when I was a kid, I learned the real truth of that statement, dying a little over and over. Not any more! Once again, you speak the truth.

Jamie Foxx was up here at my job a few years back. I just walked by him as everybody else posed for photos. Unless it is somebody that I am a HUGE fan of, I wouldn't make a big deal either.
