Ten things I've learned in life.

1. You will never succeed in trying to please someone who maintains a negative outlook on life. There will always be something wrong with whatever you give or do for them.

2. If you see someone driving dangerously, erratically and without regard to the safety of others, you can assume one of three things: The driver is a testosterone filled punk, is drunk or on a cell phone. Maybe all three.

3. Pretty much anything you read, see on TV, or hear by word of mouth is misrepresented, embellished, misinformed or just an outright lie. Luckily, many blogs devote themselves to refuting these mainstream deceptions.

4. Anytime you see someone on TV selling a system that will supposedly make you thousands of dollars per day with little effort, consider this; if their system works so well, why don't they just do it and keep all the money for themselves?

5. A true friend will tell you things you may not want to hear.

6. People complain about being gouged and ripped off by companies charging high prices. As a result many folks support laws regulating prices. In reality, companies only charge what the market will bear. Whenever prices are regulated by the government, it creates massive shortages due to the fact that companies will not produce items that they cannot sell at a profit.

7. People with a shitty out look on life need to pull their heads out of their asses and come up for air every once in a while.

8. It is a waste of time trying to help someone who doesn't even bother to help themselves.

9. A Socialist will give the shirt off YOUR back to help his fellow man.

10. A TV evangelist who makes millions of dollars from his fame and ministry is uniquely qualified to preach about sin.

Amen Hammer...Amen!

Man, I needed those words of wisdom today.

Well sad to say that nine is simply wrong and there's no two ways about it, but still funny.

Two is partially wrong because you left out the parent with the screaming kiddie winkies in the back - far worse than cell phones.

Ten is great.

Thanks for a great start to the day.
Cheers

Bravo Hammer, I have found all ten of your points to be absolutely true. Regarding #6: Best evidenced by the pottery industry. US switched to cheap Chinese imports and now we find they're full of lead. It's expensive to make it right, but well worth the effort. Preaching to the choir I know.

So true. But I do agree with the screaming child in the back seat thing too. Yikes its terrible. I have to admit my girls have never done that except for when Bri was about six weeks old and we were ten minutes out from his sisters house and she decided that was enough of being in the carseat.

Have to agree big-time with all of those; just seems to be the way the world runs, I guess.

Well, you just answered a question I've been pondering - whether to keep trying to get a fellow blogger's head out of his ass...so #8 helped.

I'm curious how you came about your views on economics and socialism. Possibly ironically, I would bet that if I posited some general "what ifs" to you- no scratch that- you've already blogged enough about helping others that take complete advantage of you that I think your views are clear in your actions. My point is this- there are loads of people who claim to be Christian or charitable, blah blah blah. You are demonstrably one of the very few who walk the walk. What that tells me is that you are a walking contradiction. Christ was the ultimate socialist, and yet you rebuke that in #9. You can say whatever you wish, but by virtue of your acts, you are clearly have socialist leanings that you believe to be virtuous.

That's a good thing in my view. And very rare.

As for price fixing and economics, you knew I'd be on the side of protectionist tariffs and price fixing (for things that are legally mandated at least, like auto insurance). I think your argument in #6 is half assed. You cannot back up that statement as it relates to prescription meds, gasoline, or housing. It's WAY more complicated that that, and what specific prices are regulated versus subsidized? Oops- did I say subsidized? That might been seen as socialistic... Paying farmers not to farm and all... Hee hee.

Cheers!

#1, gawd that sounds like my mother. #2, or if you live here, the driver is 9/10 an immigrant. #3. i don't believe anything other than things i see/experience first hand. #4, they make money off selling you hope. #5, that is me. #6. the laws of supply and demand, doesn't stop whiners. #7, people like that don't know how to be any different. #8, this is a hard one, i am a "helper" and continually try as frustrating as some people are, i have given up on a few though, you are right, some people just don't ever want to change. #9 i guess i am not a socialist, because i am shirtless. #10, Hell ya, don't get me started.

Love the things you've have learned , two things I've learned you NEVER want to begin or end your work day with a memo from your boss that states "see me". and when your lover or partner says the sentence " We have to talk" you're doomed!

Flyinfox: Glad I could help :)

Maddy: the parent with the creaming kids might be distracted but not aggressive and rude..well maybe. Regarding 9 I think Socialists are big on forcing producers to subsidize non producers under the threat og Government violence. AKA the IRS

kat: I think people are more choosy these days I hope it's not too late.

snowmanpoop: thanks :)

Tweety: I used to park the car till they stopped because they would try to open the door and stuff.

Bobg: I does seem that way

Annie, thanks and happy friday.

Mushy: Glad it helped and sorry about your friend. Hope it works out.

Katherine: Good point!

FHB: thanks :)

Stucco: you raise valid points. I don't believe the government should force people to carry insurance, and we should move to a voluntary system where people insure themselves against car wrecks and get rid of all these lawsuits. Government interference in agrculture and suck is just another pile of pork spending, taking money away from one constituency and redistrubuting to someone who can whine louder.
As far as charity goes, I'm all for the private giving and personal action. I guess that could be called individual social consciousness. When the government takes my tax dollars for their graft and wasteful programs under threat of IRS goons and prison. I take that as my idea of true socialism.

b: I have beaten my head against the wall to try to get people to take charge of their own lives but it never seems to work. Shirtless? lol

H20: lol Not that young anymore but thanks :)

Stepping: Its infuriating especially if they whine and moan about it.

Yoga: Damn those are some doosies and totally true.

#8! Yes, words to live by. And most poverty is "self-inflicted", that is, created by BAD choices.

It's a 2-part stab, Those who continually make BAD choices and those who Enable them to continue making them.

BTW- Liked them all!

You know what? Numbers 7 and 8 are so fucking true they scare me. That's why I finally pulled my head out of my own rectum and did two things: 1. Quit smoking. 2. Forgave myself for some things.

Oh, wait, there's a third thing: 3. Gave myself permission to love myself.
