Columbus day

They finished my roof. It looks ok but we'll see when it rains. The Electricians installed two big fans up there to pull some of the hot air out of the attic. I had to do something to prevent more $350 per month electric bills.

The wife and kids had a 24 hour stomach bug. Luckily there were enough bathrooms to go around. I worry about the girls the most because they are so little they can dehydrate very quickly. Everyone seems to be doing better. Now I'm waiting for my turn with the Hershey Squirts.

I got to miss the school fair. Lucky me. There wasn't any parking for several blocks so I dropped everyone off and picked them up when it was over. The kids won two cakes doing the cake walk. Just in time for my diet. My mother in law donated a cake to the so I didn't have to bake one.

Speaking of diets, mine is going pretty good. Only problem is I lose weight all over my body starting with my face, legs and waist. My middle is the last to go. I'm just going to have to suck in my gut so I don't look pregnant.

The kids are off for Columbus day. From what I understand ol Chris was pretty much an asshole, a slaver and plunderer who saw the new world as just another commodity to exploit. All these romantic notions of him discovering the world is round and befriending the natives is pretty much horse shit.

I'll be around today to see what everyone is up to.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

You know what I'm eeewwing about. I hope you don't get it. Not so much fun I hear.

Yay for your luck on missing the fair. Nothing more irritating than being around a hundred sugar-laden kids and their anxiously-friendly parents when ya just don't want to be there in the first place.

I mentioned to my son how Columbus killed the Indians that lived here. He in turn mentioned that to his 1st grade class.

Oops?

Yep, he was a dick, but so were the others. It's hard to find someone in the late 15th century who wouldn't come off as a dick to us today. My school didn't have the day off. We get next Monday off, but I'm not sure why.

Use an ace bandage, tied tightly around the gut. Not that I would know. ;)

Happy Christopher Colombus Day. Even if he was an asshole, it's a good excuse to knock off a nice chianti.

Well, if you catch that bug, you'll be sure to lose weight.

What lbb said...but it's a crappy ;) way to go. Glad that you got to miss out on the sugar...nothing's worse than driving all over the place to find a parking space and finding the event to also be a PIA>

It was Thanksgiving up here today.

As long as the kids are in school, you're going to be battling one bug or another. Good luck! I always take Airborne when the stuff starts making the rounds at work. Seems to work.

In my case, an occasional case of the squirts is good...I usually have to blast once a month!

I've given up on diets and decided to "love my body!"

Be kind to Chris it was him who exploited the natives but the power of the Spanish. He was throw in jail soon after his second trip and didn't have much opporunity to rape the New World.

I had to chuckle at the hershey squirts comment, hadn't heard that one before :)

And you are right about Columbus, I've heard all the atrocities he committed, about time we rewrite history in a more correct manner, no? stop mythologizing killers.

Of course, he wasn't any different than the people he met in the New World, the Europeans were just better at it.

Poor kids and wife. I hate the flu. But at least they are starting to feel better. And I can never keep up with all the small things like Columbus Day and such. I only remember the big days like Thanksgiving and X-mas and such.

A new buffet just opened here, no meats other than a little seafood like shrimp.

Buy a 20 punch card for 99 bucks and it's less than five bucks a meal to pig out. And they fix it and do the dishes.

150 bucks a month to eat, not a bad deal if you can get by with eating only once a day, and I can.

If Columbus hadn't discovered this land someone else would have. And exploited it just as 'Americans' have.

My yearly monthly average for an electric bill is about 40 bucks, and that includes heating the place. Eat your heart out. Ha, ha, ha.

Golly, no one on the west coast has Columbus day off except banks. We all had school and work yesterday. I've heard Columbus was a jerk as well. Let's face it, all European explorers were out for gold or spices or land....ot was the diseases thet they brought that helped decimate the native populations.

I wonder how much money in taxes we'd save if the US government stopped paying their employees to take off Columbus Day.

It's an insult that our tax dollars are spent to celebrate the life of a genocidal racist...who didn't discover a GD thing.
