Took a walk in the park today.

There is a giant park about 3 min from the house and since the weather was nice, I went for a walk.

I took some pics, some of them came out alright.

You can click on each for a much bigger picture.

Cactus flowers everywhere

Some kind of red berries.

I walked up on these guys and took several pics... they just stood there.

Really nice, Hammer. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy such beauty on this fine Texas day. I am sure it helped lighten your mood, dear fellow.

Beautiful cactus flowers! And amazing that you were able to get such a clear picture of the deer. With all of them that we have here in MN, I've never been able to get too close, except with my car, and that didn't end well....

Nice pics; I hope to have a few myself in a few days; I'm planning on going to southern Utah (Moab and Escalante areas) over the Memorial Day weekend.

Nice pictures. The Prickly Pear are bluming nicely here too. And why the hell don't they just stand there like that in November, I wonder? Golf course deer, used to seein' people and not getting shot at.

Nomas: yeah the exercise did me good, I forgot how nice it is this time of year before the heat hits.

terri: me too.. they usually spook easily, maybe they were posing :)

bobg: I can't wait to see your pics of that area.

Jeannie: that and barrel cactus are about the only ones around here. Oh yeah and there are these weird ones that are segmented and stick to your clothes when you get up close :)

FHB: This park has many acres and miles of trails, the deer may be used to people but afraid of cars.

snowmanpoop: Texas has some nice areas the hill country isn't half bad. I wish we had bigger trees though.

Nice job man- the first set of rechargables lasted all of 15 mins. I'm turning more stuff off on the camera but I'm still not happy with how fast they burn up. I must have a plate in my head or something!

Beautiful Pics-- I love any pics of Deer. I used to hunt way way too much- now I don't think I could ever shoot another one unless it was with a camera!

Nice job,

J

John: thanks, I'm using energizer 2500mAh in my Sony. I can take pics most of the day. Maybe those will work for you.

Hammer, you're too modest. The photographs are more than simply
"alright", they're good and very well taken. Unless the deer were somehow rooted to the spot, you must also be a good person or they would have vamoosed.

The red berries in the fourth phot appear very similas to a type of pepper berry that is widespread in southern Ontario---I don't know the name.

Glad to hear that you were able to get out and enjoy a taste of spring...what a wonderful time of year. Near where I live are some of the grounds of the Univ. of Toronto and there are wild violets, crocuses, and hyacinths carpeting the lawns...beautiful.

Your photos have helped to answer some of the questions that I have about transferring photos onto a computer. Mainly, I had been concerned about losing any picture quality but your photos are very clear. Thanks again.

Beautiful pix Hammer. Again glad it was a good day to get out of the house. Bri and I went and celebrated the last day of her after school program with Kora today. It was fun. They had pizza and water games. It was neat.

So, it's not normal for the deer around there to just stand still for a picture? (I mean, they will in some places. Depends on how used to humans they are.) All the critters in this state must have gone nutty. I've got squirrels trying to make friends with me, lizards just hanging around gawking at me when they used to scurry off, a mockingbird came in the house the other day... Maybe the full moon can be blamed for this, too?

I have walked right by deer, within fifteen feet. I speak to them, I worry that the monkeys with Lincolns will destroy their ability to continue to survive here.

Go ahead, delete this comment, you read it first anyway. Hugs.

The deer look like they're waiting for you to go away so they can go potty in peace. ;-)

BBC I don't have a lincoln and I don't know what the fuck you are talking about. What about you cutting down trees and sending carbon up into the air all winter? and driving your 16mpg truck with a trailer on it? What kind of example are you setting al gore junior?

janet: so true but I caught em anyway.

Why do people comment when all they have to offer is criticism no matter what the subject? bbc obviously has a misconception that he matters to the world. We are all insignificant in the big picture, but he isn't even a speck on the tiniest. No wonder his family hates his fucking guts and his neighbors would probably jump at the chance to shoot him. On the other hand, he proves my theory that allowing his comments to remain intact magnifies his stupidity and worthlessness.

deborah: thanks, it seems the camera does most of the work I just have to walk around and find stuff. It's still enjoyable though :)

tweety: this time of year is perfect for that sort of stuff.

nyx: maybe the world is going crazy and animals are planning to take over :)

jp: your comment stands on it's own merits.

Kirsten thank you. They almost looked tame enough to pet but I quickly remembered the daddy has horns ;)

Kinda off the subject, but if you catch those tunas (catus flowers) befor they bud- you can make some good wine. Tasts kinda like burgundy, if I remember right.

Mmm. Dinner. Out of season, but dinner.

Think I'll defrost some venison for dinner tomorrow.

Awesome Hammer! I love that first flower with the insect in there. The deer are excellent too. Never know what you're going to come across, it's handy to have a small camera with you. Just having the thing in your pocket or hand causes you to look around more and notice more, even if you never take a shot.

I notice some bluebells in the deer photo too. I miss some of the subtle beauty that Texas has.
