This is like bean dip but better.
1 can drained an rinsed garbanzo beans
1/2 lemon
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
2 Tsb Tahini (sunflower seed paste) can make it from scratch easily or buy at store
2 gloves garlic
Put the garbanzos in the food processor and start her up.
While mixing
Add 1/2 the olive oil
Add salt
Add garlic
Add Tahini
Scoop out the mixture and put it in a serving bowl
Squeeze lemon over the mixture
Add pepper
Pour the rest of the olive oil on top
Sprinkle paprika over top for flavor and color
Serve with pita bread or crackers
You will never go back to regular dip.
And it's good for you

Oh yum! but... only 2 cloves of garlic?? lol
I will have to make this next week! Good with warm flat bread too! Thanks for posting this so fast... now... where did that food proccesser go?
It's been a recepe I had been waiting for ages, I don't know if i can find Tahini in the shops here.
Hammer
If I can manage to stop eating the last morsel at night I have humous on toast for breakfast you are right theres no other dip (say for taramasalata and salsa but I can take or leave them) for me.
btw Ham~~ ever made Baba Ganoush?
Oh man. Does that look good!
Oooh, I always wondered what hummus looks like. We don't have hummus here.
*study pic* ... yeah, I'd eat that
I love hummus. This is one I might try. I'll let you know how it comes out.
I've never had this but it looks good.
am I the only one who, upon first glance, thought it was a pile of, umm, urp?
I love hummus. My kids love hummus, therefore they always smell like garlic. When I dont make it, I buy it in a big jug from Costco.
Hmmm. Can you add bacon to it?
I'll try it!
Sounds good, I alwasy buy my Hummus. I like to put olive oil, roasted red peppers and garlic on top...yum! I hate plain hummus, but flavor that up and It's delicious!
Lovely Wife and Me sure do love us some hummus. I'll have to print this and try it out pretty soon. I like the red pepper hummus. It's an ancient food, like lentils and beer. It's been made for a couple thousand years at least.
I was just about to ask if you could use tortilla chips with this? I just might try it. I dont know if hubby will like it or not. Hes picky.
cheesy: 2 to 4 cloves depending on their size.
kitem: I made my own with regular hulled sunflower seeds and olive oil. Then I found it in the grovcery store.
judith: my son will eat it breakfast lunch and dinner
cheesy: I love it especially with all the parsley and onions. I need to find a good recipe for it.
jerry: It's addictive :)
choochoo: It's something I tried on accident when the greek restaurant gave me the wrong order, I'm hooked now.
jeanfear: cool!
snowmanpoop: it's a safe introduction to a whole other class of food.
janet: Yeah I had to smell it first :)
stepping: The store bought ones are always too salty for me.
diesel: bacon goes with anything except a Bar Mitzvah ;)
mushy: let me know how it turns out :)
jenny: I'll buy it from the deli I like the red pepper too.
Jam: some things just can't be improved upon :)
tweety: I eat it with tortilla chips too. when I run out of crackers and bread.
I can say I have never ever tried that. I'm lazy with dips though, probably wouldn't try it unless someone made it for me. If I can't buy a dip in a jar and twist the lid off, I usually don't make it. Cept for the sausage, cheesy dip thing I make once in a while.
I love it. It's one of the national side-dishes here in Egypt and always follows pita bread
I'll try it but I have had it before and hated it.
Hammer, thank you as always and I will try it VERY soon.
Jenny!: Thanks as I was going to ask about adding roasted red peppers.
However, does anyone know how long it will keep in the fridge...okay, okay, okay...I know the one "until it's all gone"...but even a guess, please?
Anything other recipes you'd care to share would be most welcome in the Great White North. That photo late at night does nothing for the waistline, though.
Veritas et Fidelis Semper
I actually thought that it was a picture of mashed potatoes until I started reading, I think I wanted mashed taters!!!
That picture reminds me of something I once saw in a diaper. LOL
all i can say is that Hummous tastes better than it looks.
Sounds yum, love hummus, bit lazy.....and don't have food processor....do have a wizz stick though.....copied it and maybe one day........be better if someone else made it for me though......I'm hungry.......
that's what hummus is? mmmm... I'm no longer afraid of it! (you can see I'm not big on trying new things...)
i love humus! great with carrot and celery sticks and triscuits.
If you can't find tahini where you live, there's recipes for hummus using peanut butter instead, and simple no-fat no-tahini hummus (of course I lost that recipe, but I'm sure it's on the web somewhere - try allrecipes.com). It's not as creamy, but it'll do the job.
Hummus, with warm pita (or tortillas), add olives, feta cheese, tomato, celery - puts chips and dip to shame.
Hammer, How did ya know I'm a Hummus freak? Use it instead of dip on veggies- wierd huh? Trying this one.
