Another essay I agree with.
By Ted Nugent
Zero tolerance, huh? Gun-free zones, huh? Try this on for size: Columbine gun-free zone, New York City pizza shop gun-free zone, Luby's Cafeteria gun-free zone, Amish school in Pennsylvania gun-free zone and now Virginia Tech gun-free zone.
Anybody see what the evil Brady Campaign and other anti-gun cults have created? I personally have zero tolerance for evil and denial. And America had best wake up real fast that the brain-dead celebration of unarmed helplessness will get you killed every time, and I've about had enough of it.Nearly a decade ago, a Springfield, Oregon, high schooler, a hunter familiar with firearms, was able to bring an unfolding rampage to an abrupt end when he identified a gunman attempting to reload his .22-caliber rifle, made the tactical decision to make a move and tackled the shooter.
A few years back, an assistant principal at Pearl High School in Mississippi, which was a gun-free zone, retrieved his legally owned Colt .45 from his car and stopped a Columbine wannabe from continuing his massacre at another school after he had killed two and wounded more at Pearl.
At an eighth-grade school dance in Pennsylvania, a boy fatally shot a teacher and wounded two students before the owner of the dance hall brought the killing to a halt with his own gun. More recently, just a few miles up the road from Virginia Tech, two law school students ran to fetch their legally owned firearm to stop a madman from slaughtering anybody and everybody he pleased. These brave, average, armed citizens neutralized him pronto.
My hero, Dr. Suzanne Gratia Hupp, was not allowed by Texas law to carry her handgun into Luby's Cafeteria that fateful day in 1991, when due to bureaucrat-forced unarmed helplessness she could do nothing tostop satanic George Hennard from killing 23 people and wounding more than 20 others before he shot himself. Hupp was unarmed for no other reason than denial-ridden "feel good" politics. She has since led the charge for concealed weapon upgrade in Texas, where we can now stop evil.
Yet, there are still the mindless puppets of the Brady Campaign and other anti-gun organizations insisting on continuing the gun-free zone insanity by which innocents are forced into unarmed helplessness. Shame on them. Shame on America. Shame on the anti-gunners all. No one was foolish enough to debate Ryder truck regulations or ammonia nitrate restrictions or a "cult of agriculture fertilizer" following the unabashed evil of Timothy McVeigh's heinous crime against America on that fateful day in Oklahoma City.
No one faulted kitchen utensils or other hardware of choice after Jeffrey Dahmer was caught drugging, mutilating, raping, murdering and cannibalizing his victims. Nobody wanted "steak knife control" as they autopsied the dead nurses in Chicago, Illinois, as Richard Speck went on trial for mass murder.Evil is as evil does, and laws disarming guaranteed victims make evil people very, very happy. Shame on us.
Already spineless gun control advocates are squawking like chickens with their tiny-brained heads chopped off, making political hay over this most recent, devastating Virginia Tech massacre, when in fact it is their own forced gun-free zone policy that enabled the unchallenged methodical murder of 32 people.Thirty-two people dead on a U.S. college campus pursuing their American Dream, mowed-down over an extended period of time by a lone, non-American gunman in illegal possession of a firearm on campus in defiance of a zero-tolerance gun law. Feel better yet? Didn't think so.
Who doesn't get this? Who has the audacity to demand unarmed helplessness? Who likes dead good guys? I'll tell you who. People who tramp on the Second Amendment, that's who. People who refuse to accept the self-evident truth that free people have the God-given right to keep and bear arms, to defend themselves and their loved ones. People who are so desperate in their drive to control others, so mindless in their denial that they pretend access to gas causes arson, Ryder trucks and fertilizer cause terrorism, water causes drowning, forks and spoons cause obesity, dialing 911 will somehow save your life, and that their greedy clamoring to "feel good" is more important than admitting that armed citizens are much better equipped to stop evil than unarmed, helpless ones.
Pray for the families of victims everywhere, America. Study the methodology of evil. It has a profile, a system, a preferred environment where victims cannot fight back. Embrace the facts, demand upgrade and be certain that your children's school has a better plan than Virginia Tech or Columbine. Eliminate the insanity of gun-free zones, which will never, ever be gun-free zones. They will only be good guy gun-free zones, and that is a recipe for disaster written in blood on the altar of denial. I, for one, refuse to genuflect there.

yeah - Im first !! Er did you want me to say something clever? or to the point even? erm... Well written rant Mr H! Not sure if I agree -its a different culture over here...
I still say busting a kids ass will stop this kinda thing more than any kind of gun law could.
I don't live in the states and I really don't understand the whole gun thing. I understand protecting yourself. I understand that bad guys will carry regardless.
I just don't understand the whole gun culture. I don't know of ANYONE who carries a gun. There are shootings in Toronto in a certain area. I try not to go there. (Much as we aren't supposed to say anything "racial" it is blacks killing blacks in a black neighborhood). There is the odd biker shooting or gang shooting. And the odd husband who freaks and kills his family then himself. And the odd shooting among low-life scumbuckets.
I suppose the rare home-invasion by Asians should get us excited but they don't happen often either and I think they are in-house deals as well.
We just don't feel that need to own. I'm not sure even the bad guys have guns for the most part. I know our local cops just started carrying a few years back.
But ordinary citizens generally don't need to carry. And even in the states, those crazed outbreaks are relatively rare on a statistical per capita basis. Like 9/11 - what are the chances it'll happen to you? I just think if everyone has a gun, more crazies will too. And you just never know when someone is gonna snap. Our society is not conducive to self-control any more. We are losing it more and more. We are imploding. Guns won't make it better in my view. A few lives might be saved on one hand but a whole lot more crazies will have the idea that they should have a gun to let people know how they feel. And if you have no history of crazy, it's probably easy enough to get a gun or nine.
But at this point, it's like the chicken and the egg. How do you stop an avalanche when it's already started? Maybe this whole gun thing has to play itself out. I sincerely hope the idea doesn't come across the border.
Tes Nugent needs to run for political office. His overwhelming defeat of whoever he runs against will send a message. Brilliant essay, thanks for running it.
I'm from Australia (insult at will) and after the killing spree of Martin Bryant we outlawed automatic weapons unless you had a licence. We have not got a country where we are in fear of our neighbours and I'm glad for that. I hope we never become a nation where to right to protect ourselves is as paramount as the states.
For the first time ever, I can see the other point of view illustrated in Nugents essay - thanks. Its really well written.
Right on, and couldn't agree more. These gun control wimps, the far left liberal agenda of this country, and political correctness will be, and is, this nations undoing...
And alot of good people are getting killed because of it.
I agree with snowman poop, this kinda stuff really went south when all that anti ass busting of kids took off.
There is no accountability until it's to late.
**back in business also Hammer missed this blog bro. Different URL though.

Dear Jeannie: I don't know how long you have lived in Toronto, but the Toronto Police have always carried handguns on their persons while on duty and so do the ETF (Toronto Police Dept.'s version of a SWAT Team).
Canada has gun control laws, firearm registration laws, even gun amnesty laws yet none of these laws have protected the victims of violent gun-related crimes in Canada.e.g. the victims of the shooting at Dawson College in Montreal last year, or the victims at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal over 17 years ago, to name only a few.
Thank you, Hammer, and God Bless America from a Canadian who stands beside you all...especially our Troops and their families.

mutley: As in most places gun control laws were passed to keep guns away from recent immigrants or the lower classes. Prior to arounf 1899 most english Gentlemen carried a sword or a pistol of some sort. Not sure how they were so easily disarmed but it happend nonetheless.
snowmanpoop: yeah diciplining kids is a damn good idea. The gun control laws have done zero good.
jeannie: the gun culture is about self reliance. dialing 911 when danger strikes will most likely result in them writing a report over the victims body. You're right most crime is gang on gang black on black but home invasions and random attacks are on the rise. I sure don't want to be rendered defenseless and watch my family murdered when I could be capable of fighting back. I've heard many many people state (even on this blog) that they would submit to rape and murder rather than take the life of their attacker. To me that is sick. What have we become?
JP: I would vote for him. I think he could shake things up.
ms smack: I hope your country remains peaceful and relatively crime free as well. I have read disturbing reports about muslim immigrant gangs raping and killing down under. But I only get bits and pieces from our media.
Gunz: Glad to see you bro! I'll come by and check it out. Yeah no discipline indeed breeds sociopaths.
Thanks Debrorah, I'll have to go read up on those.
You may also be interested in knowing that Toronto, still referred to as "Toronto The Good" by some, is the home of 67 violent gangs the Police know about as well as being the Cdn. Headquarters of the Hell's Angels.
The Tor. Police, the O.P.P.(Ontatrio Provincial Police-our version of State Police), and the R.C.M.P. feel that the increase in the availability of guns to criminals is in direct proprotion to the H.A.'s moving into the province after they were driven out of Quebec by the Q.P.P.
Sadly, Toronto has had a marked increase in gun-related crime that has affected all ethnicities and all neighbourhoods, especially the part of the city's core known as the Entertainment District; which is home to a majority of after hours clubs.
Yet, the so-called liberals (not to be confused with the Federal Liberal Party) would have us believe that crime is actually on the decrease...go figure.
P.S. The web address of the Tor. Police, if you're interested, is:

At the risk of being offensive (oh what the fuck), if only some psycho bastard would scare the crap out of one of these spineless gun control advocates and their families, perhaps they would change their mind and pack. Hang in there Hammer.
Ted Nugent has always rocked... in more ways than one. He has always been adamant on his position about guns and speaks very well...in common sense, laymen terms that any American can understand.
I've heard many many people state (even on this blog) that they would submit to rape and murder rather than take the life of their attacker WTF? What kind of mentality is this? Is an attacker life more valuable than a loving, contributing etc. member of society?
Oh, Hammer...I cannot relate at all. I have been in the position of being attacked & found that fight & flight were indeed instinctual for me. In a matter of sheer seconds I chose to not kill my attacker, but not at the cost of allowing him to take his evil ways out on me. I did what I had to do in order to stop him...had he not been stunned, dazed & physically incapacitated, I have no doubt that I would have been forced to continue until he did stop. If that meant I would become a murderer, then a murderer I would have probably been...unless of course he beat me to it & killed me. I just can't imagine allowing someone to kill you given the opprtunity to stop them, by whatever means necessary.
Whew! Apologies for getting too personal...you comment got my goat.
the intellectual position is one of thinking.....
that`s how people fall into the rabbit hole of intellectualising thier own safety.
when staring down the barrel of a gun it`s too late, my deep thinking friends.
thank you ted, for the music and for your political will.
and you hammer for providing another voice in protecting what is most important.
us.
Deborah - sorry if I gave the impression I lived in Toronto - I don't - I was admitting that there were problem areas here but not in my neck of the woods. The gun registry was a total bust in my view. Licensing doesn't stop the bad guys from getting guns. And perhaps it is too late for Canada if folks in T.O. are finding it more comfortable to carry a gun around. Getting shot or mugged is just not something I worry about on a daily basis in the KW area.
Living in NZ where even the POLICE aren't allowed to use their guns...........if there were never guns, then we wouldn't need guns to shoot the people shooting others......but since there ARE, protect yourself in any way you can!!! Not many shootings here - the odd really crazy bastard over the years, but pretty rare. More baby bashings.........wish I had a gun in those cases........
In this stupid crazy country gun control is using both hands. I'm not saying that is right, just that it is true because this is one crazy country.
My last words may just be, "Go ahead you fucking idiot, pull the trigger."
As if you could kill an omnipresence called God.
Not sure what bbc was really trying to say in the previous comment...I've met a few folks that subscribe to his idea of "go ahead," and I did. Those Iraqis are no longer "with us."
Ted's always right on the money, and he doesn't sugar-coat it in some lame attempt to avoid "offending" someone. I sure as hell wish that he'd run for President someday...His music is pretty kick-ass too.
The trouble I have with allowing everyone to carry a gun is that it's way too easy to reach for it and solve your problems with it. Not everyone is level-headed and responsible. Guns are controlled and knives aren't because you have a chance to defend yourself against a person attacking you with a knife, but you can't stop a bullet fired at you from 20 feet away. I don't know what the answer is, because we can't disallow all guns in this country. But I wouldn't want to live in a world where everyone is packing a .45, although it sure seems like everyone is now-mostly illegally, I'll bet.
Ha! Love Ted. You have great timing, or maybe me when I read this, but I heard cat scratch fever on the way to work this morning. I play a mean steering wheel guitar.
I agree with Ted on all counts here. I understand the commenters from other countries not really understanding, but in none of those countries does their most basic foundation documents assure a right to own weapons like our constitution. Gun ownership was considered essential by the founders.
I'm convinced that if it hadn't been put in our constitution, all the guns would have been confiscated long ago.
Personally, I don't fear my neighbors. I just like knowing I have a right to protect myself, should I ever need to, because I am a lifeform on this planet... not because someone says they'll allow me the right. Nobody goes around making mama bears get a license to defend their cubs, or slapping fines on wolves for having those sharp teeth, quick reflexes, and strong jaws. Self-defense is a right every living being is born with, whether they ever need to use it or not. And you might see fewer "You can have my gun when you pry it out of my cold dead fingers" type things if no one was actually trying to take them away. That's what it's about for me... not the guns. Not even a need for them. Just the fact that I don't appreciate having basic rights inherent to all creatures messed with because they aren't warm and fuzzy enough for someone else. Life isn't always warm and fuzzy. And there are damned good reasons for that. Trying to force the universe to be something it isn't is just ridiculous.
I'm with ya Hammer!
I'm going to agree with the other posters who said that spanking kids helps. I got my ass busted a lot, and while it made me ornery during the time period it went on, I can look back and HONESTLY reflect that if there hadn't been the threat of an actual punishment in my younger life, I would be horrible person. I'm a bitch now, but I'm a bitch with MORALS, dammit! I personally know a kid who's never punished and has the classic problems that many of the kids who ended up killing their classmates displayed well in advance. I belatedly wish for a yardstick broken on his backside...I just hope he doesn't decide to take out his dissatisfaction in any way other than his emo spitefulness that he visits upon his parents.
This article was extremely well-written...I re-posted it in my blog.
Hear, hear! I'm with Nugent on this one!
"...if it hadn't been put in our constitution, all the guns would have been confiscated long ago."
and countless lives saved as a result?
Surely if guns are freely available in society, they will be used. Not freely available, less likely to be used.
I'm eternally grateful that I can be reasonable sure my neighbour or anyone I meet in the street is unlikely to be carrying a gun.
a UK perspective.
Looks like you struck a nerve.
You would probably be pretty surprised at how many people go armed in our society (leagal or otherwise). These folks don't wear cowboy gunbelts and display their hardware. When carried for self defense by a responsible person you won't know unless it is needed, in which case most everyone in this string would be appreciative. I'm not aware of a single case (and you know it would get plenty of noise from the liberals) of a permitted gun owner going of the deep end and starting a rampage. There are however, cases to the contrary.
As for the feeling of decline in our society... sure it starts with raising your kids right. Teach them right from wrong. Let them taste failure and see the other side. Allow them to work out issues with peers so they know how to negotiate and compromise.
To blindly think that the Government can, or should be the be all end all of individual's protection is rediculous. The fact that you can dail 911 in 3 seconds doesn't send the calvary running. So as bad events unfold it's been placed in our Government's hands to protect individuals by legislation. I wear my seatbelt and don't bitch about and extra couple of grand for airbags in my car but you don't fix society's ills by legal angling.
Rambling.....
So in summary the world seems darker and scarier. Hiding under the covers doesn't make the boogey man go away. I am a proponent of conceal/carry permits...but would like to add that training should be more rigorous and selection criteria more strict (driver's liscenses too). We all hear of isolated incidents of random violence. If you were caught up in one wouldn't you hope you could stop it.... or the person next to you could?
Love that guy. Crazy as hell, but a great individualist. People have learned to confuse liberty and safety. The one requires us to set the other aside.
Of course Hammer, you know I agree with ol' Ted's take. I make no apologies for being a gun owner, knowing how to use my weapons safely and accurately - nor do I apologize for not thinking twice about shooting someone dead as hell who is intending harm to me or my family.
I understand there is a cultural difference in other countries concerning firearms. I'm from Alabama and grew up with rifles, pistols, revolvers and shotguns being a part of life. We were taught from a young age the joys of hunting, the importance of safety and the pure fun of target shooting. In the south, turning 21 isn't exciting so much for being able to go buy a six pack of beer as much as it is going and getting your concealed weapons permit. We're not shootin' each other in the streets back home. If anything, criminals are careful in their decisions because they know most likely, if they are going to try and make a victim out of someone, that "victim" is not going down without a fight (and is usually a better shot than the side-shootin' "gansta" heh heh).
Not long ago the liberals here in the US and across the pond were sobbing over Florida's new laws concerning the right to defend themselves WITH FORCE when threatened by criminals. In Europe, travel agents put posters up warning against travel to Florida due to it being the "wild west" with shootouts in the streets due to the new no retreat laws. *sigh* And thus far, all their whining and wailing about GUNS, as usual, has been unfounded.
Back in 1992 (I believe it was), a commuter train in New York fell victim to a nut carrying an illegal gun. Because all the law-abiding folks just trying to go home that day were obeying the strict gun laws so many yankees love and NOT carrying a firearm, Colin Ferguson was able to shoot folks taking his own sweet time, DROP A CLIP, RELOAD and continue firing. If ONE person on that train had been armed, he may have gotten off a few rounds before the asshat took his well deserved dirt nap, but think of the lives that would have been saved. Instead, they could only be victims and await their turn to be slaughtered.
I know our liberal press hates to report about law-abiding citizens who are armed and save their own lives (and the lives of others) by being armed and a good damn shot. However, the Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog does us a great service by finding those stories and conveniently providing them for us in one place. Go take a minute if you're from across the pond or north of the border and read. It won't change your mind, but maybe you can understand a bit better why those of us who are gun owners feel the need to BE gun owners. When we lose our right to arm and protect ourselves, much like in New York, the law-abiding citizens disarm leaving only the criminals armed, dangerous and deadly.
Guns don't kill people - murderers kill people and I'll be damned if I'm going to sit around and await my turn to be their next freaking "victim." Oh hell no...
