The Audacity of a Dope

A photo-op over the Manhattan skyline that sent thousands of New Yorkers running for their lives has officials in Washington, D.C., running for cover.

Many New Yorkers on Tuesday were asking what the Obama administration could have been thinking when it authorized an Air Force One backup plane to fly over the city for photos capturing the presidential plane with the Statue of Liberty in the background.

The 747 plane, with an F-16 escort following close behind, circled the Statue of Liberty and the skyline near the World Trade Center site for about a half-hour. Offices were evacuated. Emergency call centers were inundated. Witnesses reported that the planes were flying dangerously low

The site evoked memories of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and left White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera accepting responsibility and apologizing late Monday for permitting the exercise that infuriated New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who had not been alerted to the flyover.

If a private citizen would have pulled this stunt, they'd be in some serious doo-doo.

It's unbelievable that anyone could have authorized this.

Who requested this photo op, why was the photo needed, how long was the request in the queue before it got approved: there's a lot of questions I'd ask, even before asking what Luce Veritas was thinking before he let someone borrow the keys to his pimpmobile.

When I was more of a Photographer and was able to hobnob with Real Pros, they told me the months and years it took to get permission to have places like the Capitol, or rooms in the White House available to them for photo shoots (not just part of a tour, but for them to have access to the place at a time it was quiet, or to photograph during some deliberation or whatever). You talk about getting a camel through the eye of a needle. And these people weren't burning tax dollars, except maybe for a keeper who got detailed to watch them work and make sure they weren't there to act a fool and whiz on the carpet. And this was in the late 1980's, when no one worried about anything happening here.

To not only be able to walk up to AF1 on the tarmac and use it as a model, but to get them to fly it out over Manhattan for 30 minutes, this photographer calls 100% b.s. on any of this.

While I rant yet again, I just heard someone say, "why not use a piece of 800 dollar Photoshop software and get the same result,...Hmmmm, I just said that to the Mr. not 2 hours earlier.
...Arlen Specter's move, smells like a selfish move, It's all about him, Instead of standing for something and sticking with it he jumps at the first opportunity because he thinks he can't win, For the love of Christ, he's 79, retire or something. I'm thinking it smells like a Turncoat. Good Ridden's.

If I were the Terrorist I would strike now. This administration is utterly clueless.

Yeah, I wonder who thought that was a good idea? Maybe they thought everyone would be so busy worrying about swine flu they wouldn't notice a humongous plane circling the Statue of Liberty?

Unbelievable. Maybe they were testing the public to see how long it would take to notice another big fly over NY.
We will never have an answer for that. I even heard it was a training exercise. Now that I would believe. The military does them all the time.

Jeff B: He would never again see the light of day.

Leeann: exactly

snowmanpoop: they are lucky no one had a heart attack

Jeannie: indeed.

Diller they are arrogant foolish and self serving.

mts1: This stinks to high heaven. No telling what they were really doing.

Sweeti: yep why not photoshop..I think something sinister is afoot.

toaster: You aren't alone.

borepatch: Or they are just rubbing our noses in it.

Left coat rebel: I hope this is the wake up call that starts the downfall of these fools.

Admiral: I'm afraid you're right.

Janet: I wondered about that too.

Deadman: I wonder if that's even possible anymore.

Beachgirl: Even the whitehouse press secretary claimed he didn't know who was behind it.

Jeremy pope: Thanks for visiting: I just grabbed the first pic of airforce one that came up on a search.

One more reason demonstrating why he is a dangerous man. What a total idiot - or is it a precursor of what his friends will do - and he's making it so that next time people won't worry as they see the plane headed their way....
