Polish P-64
Not long ago I saw this little pistol in the gun shop case and immediately recognized it as one of the obsolete Polish military and police pistols that have been imported over the last few years. The gun looked like it had never been fired and for $115 it was a steal.
A few months earlier, a guy at the firing range thought he would play a joke on me and let me shoot his. He didn't know I had been watching him and his friends cry over their sore paws for the last 20 min.
I happily accepted his offer and fired off a magazine at the 7 yard target. I was able to keep all six rounds in the 9 and 10 ring. The recoil was harsh...it was like catching a 90mph fast ball bare handed. I pretended it didn't phase me and handed the gun back to it's owner with a big grin on my face.. "wow that was great! thanks for letting me shoot it!" They all looked at me and my target with incredulity.
I could tell the guy was annoyed that his practical joke backfired.
There are very few handguns I won't try at least once.
The P-64 is considered a close copy of the Walther PPK but instead of .32 or .380 it fires 9X18 makarov which is marginally more powerful than the .380 but less so than the 9mm parabellum that is the standard NATO handgun caliber.
This would make a great carry piece. It is very slim, compact, accurate and ultra reliable.
The only drawback from what I can tell is the recoil. It probably just as painful to the shooter as the shootee.

I would NOT try it. I will try any rifle but not handguns, I don't even like shooting my .40 because of the recoil. I had a co-worker who had a literal arsenal of cool ARs, uzi's etc. and I shot all of them. I may post pics on my blog just for you.
This is a real sweet find, congrats!
Recoil is the ONLY reason I don't shoot. I'm chicken shit:)
Nice piece.
I once refused to shoot a double barrel derringer with two shotgun shells in it.
Yeah, I'll shoot it if I figure it ain't gonna blow up in my face..but their do be a difference in shooting a magazine full and real practice.
I have a tough enough time with my .45acp...makes my wrist sore after fifty rounds or so
A good .22 semiautomatic will stop the average monkey and is easy to control, not to mention, cheaper to shoot if you need a thousand rounds.
My boss and I were just talking about target shooting last week. She's done it before and I'd love to try it. You're inspiring me.
Happy Monday, Hammer!
I've done some target shooting with a Glock, but must say I much prefer shooting skeet with a shotgun! While holding the handgun, my hand trembled terribly! Granted, my shoulder feels the kick back...but at least I can kill a clay pigeon or two!
Unfortunately, I can't say nice looking piece...I'm simply not a handgun fan! Now show me a shotgun! In fact I told my husband a couple years ago, I wanted a shotgun and *ice* for Christmas... I saw the diamonds...still waiting on the shotgun!

oops... it appears I was a bit impatient! You can delete one of me :)
AM
The recoil. This one thing is why I've yet to shoot J's gun.
What IS it with men and guns? Kidding, I get it. Think its kinda sexy. J loves "target practice". I love to ask him what he's practicing to shoot, as he doesn't hunt...
This is a topic where I draw a complete blank.
On the other hand, if you type 'hammer' into google blog search, you are at the TOP! Which of course makes my life a lot easier.
Cheers
While I'm not sure I'd be comfortable having guns in my house, (atleast not at this time) and I don't hunt, so wouldn't need them for that reason, I think I would like to take a lesson sometime on safety and handling though. And maybe do a little target practice.
I looked into it, and there's a place not too far from me where you can take lessons for about $75 an hour. To rent a lane is $25 and hour, a gun also about $25 plus you have to buy eye and ear protection, and ammo.
Does your wife shoot?
i like a nine. how does this compare in size? recoil's not for me. i'm very good with a rifle.
I haven't seen those here yet, of course I haven't been to a gun show is years. Thanks for the info.
Have to admit I have never touched a gun in my life but that sounds very powerful.
barbara: some pistols are a pain and some are pussy cats. I like shooting .38 specials for target practice because they are very low recoil.
ETL: one bad experience can ruin it.
wreggie: Don't blame you!
guy: It's funny, little blowback pocket guns wear me out but full house .44 mags I can shoot all day.
BBC: I've got a couple of those too
a face full of .22 will dissuade anyone
scarlet: it's a lot of fun
airmanmom: I love shotguns too. I'm just terrible at clays, I need more practice :)
random: starting small with a .22 is the best way. It's a sport where women have an advantage in my opinion due to overall better hand eye coordination.
maddy: I'll bhave to check that out I've never googled myself.
crystalchick: That sounds pretty reasonable, The NRA also has classes at low cost.
nanc: this one is tiny..you can cover it with a dollar bill
mushy: I haven't seen em at the gun shows but I'm sure they will end up there eventually :)
tweety: this one is unique because of it's power compared to it's tiny size.
My Father in law left me his Makarov when he passed away
I have used it as a back up and bail out piece for a year now and I love the round, I use some hot reloads with Hornady XTP bullets and the are dangerous.
My dad had a few hunting shotguns. I was allowed to even touch them, and i have never handle any pistol or any gun. I don't mind, and if other people like to shot at the range, it's fine to me.
Hope you had a nice week end and you sleep better.
How can you tell that a gun's never been shot? (My husband would probably cringe if he knew I didn't know the answer to that!)
fyreman: I love my makarov, it's not much bigger than this gun but holds 3 more rounds and has very little recoil.
kitem: shotgun hunting is big around here. I've never done it myself but the clay targets are just as good for me at least
terri: I can usually tell because the moving parts still have packing grease and show no appreciable wear. Also when bullets are loaded and fired some of the soft brass and copper usually rubs off onto the steel and inside the barrel.
I touched a gun once... for a second.
I'm allergic to recoil.
I love knowing about handguns. It seems that my wife and ex wife have all something against handguns so I am somewhat forbidden to even try them.
Yeah, I know...I am pussywhipped!
hubbs has a gun that is so small it reminds me of that little gun he has on men in black where it kicks back and knocks him back.
It's cute... for a gun
I know NOTHING about guns so will just *wave* HELLO!
I was given a small automatic lady's purse pistol. Aside from the sights being purely decorative, the slide came back and sliced two gashes in my thumb.
I tried to bring back an Iraqi 9X18 pistol...think it was a Czech design, but I'm not sure. The PC nazis shut that down...we couldn't bring much back from there at all, even though I can buy the same piece in Shotgun News for about 100 bucks. Go figure.
Give me a .45 please.
That thing looks just like my Makarov. you sure it's not just a Polish copy, for the Warsaw Pact and all? My mom has mine, by the way. Wouldn't want to be an intruder, bustin' into that house.
My Dad taught me how to shoot when I was 10.
Over the years, we've shot many a hand gun and rifle. I admit I am not that great of a shot, but I would do alright in a pinch.
Just one of my many talents and one of the few things that bring me and my Dad together.
I own one of these and I LOVE it! The recoil is not as bad as you make it out to be. Very accurate and easy to strip and clean. No problems at all with this gun.
The recoil is going to be snappy on just about every compact pistol. If you're not tough enough to handle the factory recoil, a quick spring swap from Wolff will take care of a majority of the recoil. And other spring swap can take away a lot of the DA trigger complaints. You could train a monkey to change these springs out too.
