Blogger stuff you might need
There have been some cases where blogs have been hacked, deleted, shut down for unknown reasons etc.. I knew one blogger that got pissed off one day and deleted his blog along with 2 years of posts. Once he sobered up, it was too late.
Blogger has no known tech support and they rely on a useless message board that hardly anyone answers and will do nothing to fix a problem that is on the server side.
There are some things that you can do to protect yourself.
Here is how you do a backup if you use blogger:
Just insert your blog name into the address below on your web browser.
http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=N Instead of N, type the number of posts you have
If your blog has less than 1000 posts you can type:
http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=1000 (be sure to put in your blog name)
It might take a few minutes to load, so be patient.
Then from your web browser choose "File" "Save as" then choose a place to store your blog backup. Burning it to a CD might not be a bad idea.
There is also a feature I just found out about that lets you access and manage all the pictures you have put on your blog. Just go here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/home and you can see everything that you've uploaded.
This feature is especially useful if you started back on the old days when there were tons of technical isses and you may have tried to upload the same picture 50 times.

Good point! [several actually] I certainly appreciate the step by step instructions.
I thought I was the only one who tried to load a picture 49 times!
Cheers
Great info.
I'd been to Picasa lots and at first was freaked out because I thought my whole library of pictures was in there... like thousands of pictures uploaded a zillion times, resized, and changed and highlighted like I love to do and then saw it was just ones from the blog.
How do people get to anyones picture album there though? Is it automatically public or do you have to give people the link or is it available thru something they click on a blog??
crystal: There is an option to make them public or private. By default they are private until you change it.
My old blog was hacked to the point of being beyond repair. I was able to have the content transferred to a free wordpress account, but my self hosted site is worthless unless I find someone who knows more than I do.
Here's another blog back-up site:

If you're not prepared, getting hacked feels devastating!
Good stuff to know, Hammer. I've been archiving my blog monthly, but it duplicates a lot of the sidebar stuff unnecessarily. I'll give your method a try!
Some really useful information Hammer...thanks!
Thanks for the info, Hammer!!
Good info. Of course, if you have your own domain, you can just FTP all the files down to your hard drive. :)
Thnaks this was really helpful and I'm planning to do it this week.
Just one word: MERCI
cheers Hammer
Perfect instructions, just saved! Thanks :)
Thanks, Hammer. Appreciate it :)
hummm tried the search but didnt work for me?
Good tips but if my blog gets wiped out, I'll take it as a message from above hahaha. I don't think I'd be heartbroken. I'd just start another one. Maybe.
Thanks for the info! I working on a big change for my layout...so yours is an awesome tip! :)
I'll put your advice to work. Thanks Hammer.
Kickass! I just did it. Took all of five seconds.
Somehow or another, when Firefox downloaded the save page for my entire blog, it created a "Backup Files" folder that contained all my uploaded content. Cool!
Thanks for the head's up.

Thanks Hammer! I really should back up my posts, just in case.
Hammer, Once again, I'm glad I stopped by to visit your blog!
~AirmanMom returning to her blog...
Cool advise. You should run a class on this shit.
Awesome! I never would've thought of doing that.
How interesting!
I have come a long way, Baby!
