I am not a vegetarian but we agree on a good bit of that...except oysters are one of my FAVES ummmmmm! You do have to have a taste for venison, it has to be cooked just right. Goose on the other hand is FABULOUS when marinated and grilled.....I love a lot of wild game...Live in big hunting country!
Your answers are funny! I would have to look all that stuff up..never heard of most of it!
Never would have figured you for a vegetarian.
Me, I like to boast that I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first. And I have!
James
What you said about the sea urchin is what I have always said about the oyster.
How in the hell did some fool figure out if he pried that thing open there may be something to eat inside?
That had to be one hungry mofo to pry open an oyster, see that quivering blob of slime and think, 'Mmmmm lunch!'.
I literally just did one of those unintentional heebie-jeebie full body shivers at your description of oysters... ensuring I will never try them!
It's all about texture, if it goes into my mouth! I can promise you that most of these sound like they would have a funky texture, therefore they would be x'ed off my list as well!
~AirmanMom returnign to her blog...
Watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern can be very disturbing. He was talking about blood sausage. EEWW
When he ate sheep's eyballs in Morocco... OMG. What about just enjoying some cous cous and mint tea while there. That guy really is bizarre.
Hubby LOVES all peppers, grows them in his garden. One was soooo hot when I used it in an omelet we were all coughing and choking and had to open windows. Except him. He was just smiling and saying 'bring it on'!
My friends came back from Scotland on their honey moon bringing some of that lovely malt whiskey (#45).
As I would drinking tequlia, I gave it a healthy respect and didn't over indulge.
I never knew you were a vegetarian. For some reason that surprises me tremendously. I guess I always assume vegetarians are tree-hugging liberals. I guess I have to expand my thinking.
Vegetarian? Would have never guessed. You like alcohol though, you're o.k. in my book ;)
Praise Allah! Very wise words from Hammer... Goats milk, only from female goats!
lol
Oysters: sea boogers.
And you touched on a very valid point when you said someone back at the dawn of prehistory had to be desperately hungry the first time human beings ate some of those things. Even eggs: "You know, I'm so weak from hunger that I can't catch that bird to eat it, so I'm going to settle for the next thing that falls out of its ass."
Hammer,
I adore good steak tartare made from filet mignon, tiny chilled kumamoto oysters from Japan, and bagels and lox...
All the other ones you crossed out, I totally agree with - yuck !
Great list! I'm on board with most of what you said. But I'll include calfnuts... will NOT touch them or eat them!
Jillian
WTF did you eat at the blogmeet? Oh yeah beer…never mind.
Damn, that's a hell of a list. Makes me HUNGRY. So I'm off to eat Chinese. Later.
Never would've thought you were a vegetarian. Man, I want some fruit wine...made from something other than grapes! :)
I'm quite surprised at the number of these I've had. I had to look some up but found that I had eaten a few of those too or might have. Of those I haven't had, they are simply not available around here or anywhere I've been - like crocodile or puffer fish. I have yet to eat a S'mores. I have to wonder about the name brand crap - why so specific?
Who came up with this list and why? There doesn't seem to be any particular thread of meaning here. It smacks a little of arrogance but there are a lot of interesting things missing.
I would try anything once as long as someone proved to me it was edible first.
Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee is NOT the stuff that comes from animal crap. It's just coffee made from beans grown in the Blue Mountain area of Jamaca. My dad loves it. I never tried it, and won't drink coffee.
Between the two of us, I think every item on the list is covered, except Haggis. I'm still waiting to go to Scotland so I can try it.
I prefer the strawberry Pocky myself. ;)
Epoisses is one of my favorites, too. Glorious stuff.
it's pronounced ay(as in hay)pwoz or ape-wOz as in wizard of.
alot of the one's you crossed out I have tried. Some I even still eat. Some you had on your list I would never try myself. Aint eating no frog or snail, and not a guts or brain fan. hehehehe
I have eaten aligator before though.
Heck, a couple you crossed off would be on the table for my last meal on Earth. Seared Fois Gras, Steak Tartare, Kobe beef, venison backstrap. Bring it on!
Oh Ham~~~~
LMAO LMAO @44!
and AMEN brudder at Baba ghanoush
Oh and YES I remember the Magician! I like the fact you love your cheese lmao/////
i don't know about crocodile, but alligator is yummy!
Hammer, it is a pitty that you live so far away. Else you and your family would receive an invitation for
cream tea.
(Clotted cream is the fat of unpasteurized milk, a little bit like heavy cream or mascarpone, but fluffier. It goes on the top of the scones, which have to be warm.)
I will soon post my paspacho own recipe.
Epoisse is a very good cheese.
overall,I am not a vegetarian but I like your food.
Are your children vegetarian too?
creamtea: ahh that makes sense and sounds really good.'
Kitem: I decided to let my kids decide for themselves. Right now they are fine with both vegetarian and regular meals.
78. SNAIL.
I've always adopted an open mind about trying anything once.
A good friend who had also been a sous chef in Hollywood back in the 80s prepared the little crawlers for us in a cooking class one day and I thought "What the hell??"
The flavor was TO DIE FOR - garlic, butter and meat...until you started to chew and it felt like you were chewing on a slimy WORM...she later told me the secret was to only chew once or twice - just like with oysters - before swallowing.
Either way I can say I've tried them and I don't really wanna have them again.
I'd rather eat a HOT DOG.
