Carrie Tagged me while I was away to list 5 songs from when I was 18 and how they affected me.
I was 18 for most of 1988 so here are the ones that I remember most. Not that they were my favorites but significant at the time.
Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin: Ok at first but then was so overplayed that it gave me nightmares. I just wanted the whistling to stop damn it!
Kokomo - Beach Boys: I was always an oldies fan even from a young age. I was pleased to hear the beach boys come out with a decent sounding song.
New Sensation - INXS: I always liked their music, how was I supposed to know he was singing about whacking off while asphixiating himself...sheesh I was so sheltered back then.
Faith - George Michael: Catchy song I would never have admitted it 20 years ago. Frigging ass spelunker.
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses Good album along with "Lies" I don't know what happened but G&R started sucking ass in a hurry.
I miss some of the 80's but for the most part the music licked camel sac. I should have been around for the 60's.

Interesting choices. Since we appear to be close to the same age, I'm infinitely familiar with a couple of those...and the oldie, since I too am an oldies fan.
Remember and like all. Didn't know what New Sensation was about either.......the mind boggles! and Faith was one of my favs....still like hearing it....and I had a bit of a crush on George!!! waste of time!! haha
80's did suck but Motown in the 60's? That was great times. We were actually able to receive a Detroit station at our cottage - I was introduced to it by native Detroit friends there. It was like every song was my favourite. Then suddenly, the station and Motown was gone. The vacuum was never filled in my opinion.

Jeannie: I agree Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, The supremes etc... all outstanding.. why did it all have to turn into rap and hiphop...
All my kids were little in the 80's, the only music I remember from that time comes from Sesame Street.
I must still be sheltered! I didn't know that about New Sensation!

Jeesh. I never knew that until now. I don't listen closely to song lyrics, I just groove on any good guitar, and I always liked the cool groovy guitar in that song. Man. This is like when someone (a girl) told me that the old song "Turning Japanese" was about, well, masturbation.
I agree with you about Guns 'N Roses, and from what all I've read about them, almost all their problems were directly a result of Axl Rose's titanic ego. Appetite for Destruction was one of those rare albums that was good from one end to another though.
I heart the Beach Boys! 80's music was bad! Worse than licking camal sac...it was like camel toe on a hot day!

Hammer I can only be honest with you out of respect but listening to Kokomo for me is like I dunno having bette midler and celene dion singing in my ears everywhere I turn. painful. I have respect for the beach boys = hey in my room is one of my favorites but Id rather lick piss than listen to kokomo. Respectfully yours Jude

An interesting selection of tunes from the decade before I paid much attention to music. I can't believe you left out the cover of "The Locomotion" from the late 80s. I am disappointed.
hahaha, i loved these songs, I was 14 or 15 at the time, which makes you three years my senior. Kewl. Miss the 80's although this year is the best in new music release since 2002 (Coldplay, Muse, Limp Biskit, etc).
