I never have a normal day

Got up this morning at 5:00 Cooked breakfast and packed a lunch for the wife. I cleaned up some and roused the kids to take them to get some breakfast tacos.

They did not like waking up that early but I walked around and roused them in the drill instructor method. We had a nice breakfast at the Bill Miller restaurant down the street, Biscuits and gravy, egg and cheese and bean and cheese tacos fruit tray, milk juice and iced tea for all four of us for $10

Almost cheaper than eating at home.

We we got back into the driveway and I looked at the debris in the truck left over from our vacation. There were chips of all types, skittles, pretzels, crumbs and wrappers everywhere. I plugged in the shop vac, gave the kids some cleaning supplies and told them to get after it and to not come back in until they could eat off of the carpet.

A few minutes later my son came running in "Dad a dog just jumped in our truck" I went outside and sure enough there was a white and brown basset hound sitting in the seat ready to go for a ride. She was a sweet dispositioned dog so I lifted her out and gave her some water.

She was well groomed and taken care of but had no collar.

I kenneled my dogs inside and put the basset in the back yard. We made up some signs and posted them around the neighborhood.

I could tell this was a dog not used to being outside so I felt I needed to take care of it before it got run over.

I'm afraid the kids are liking it too much. The girls already named it "Ash" Don't ask me why....I really don't need another dog so I hope the owner calls today.

Oh yeah and the kids came in after cleaning the truck stuck out their tongues and said "we're done"and we all ate off the carpet." I could tell they were telling the truth from the carpet fuzz in their mouth.

I didn't know there were so damn literal

Here is a pic of the dog.

When I read your menu of items that were left behind in the truck I was waiting for the "they cleaned up by eating the leftovers". I was not disappointed! Not your exact quote, but a reasonable facsimile.

That is a good looking dog. Hope the owner claims it, but if not I think it's picked a great new home.

i think you have a new dog... and i think a clue to the real owner, is that they own a truck similar to yours. hence, the jumping in to yours.

I just caught up on your vacation posts. Glad you all had a great time.
Wonder what "normal" will be like in Mississippi in a few more years?

Cute doggy pic! How could u not know they were literal - that´s how I imagine u could be, and they´re yours, right? I love the way you take your family for breakfast. Still wondering if u have a brother - with the same breakfast habits?

Way too cute! The dog looks deliriously happy to find some new playmates. You may have a new family member.

You are so keeping that dog if the owner doesn't call and you know it!

Tweety: She is indeed a cute dog.

Dan O: hehe I hope they vacumned more than they snacked

infini: you're probably right, there is only one main way into the neighborhood so I hope someone sees the sign. If the dog had walked far they probably won't

carrie: She won't eat unless I pack something.. she gets too caught up in things and totally skips lunch unless she has a lunch right there.

Kirsten: Me too the dog looks pampered and I hope she can get back to her life of leisure.

Jean: I hope more normal than when I saw it.

evalinn: I have to be careful what I say around the kids they take me by my word. No brothers sorry I'm an only child :D

fluinfox: Crap that's what I've ben hearing all day long.

b: You're right she had polish sausage for lunch :)

lorrie: she is cute but my other dog is very jealous.

tysgirl: you're probably right...the kids are begging already.

Could have been worse, could have been a pony in your truck...

The dog might be microchipped, the humane society has a wand they can wave over he dog's back to bring up its ID number if it is.

The adoring look in that dog's eyes says it all...she KNOWS you're a softy! You may have a tough exterior, but you're a marshmallow inside. You can't fool kids and dogs!

Buy another dog dish, and say "welcome" to the new addition. She couldn't have found a better home, and it's wonderful that your girls resoponded so quickly with a name. As to the name...well, who knows...but it shows great imagination.

I hope that you or your wife never say "Take a hike" or they could end up in the Grand Canyon (a small joke).

Glad that life is back to the usual. Thanks for sharing.

Look at those eyes saying " you love me... you REALLY love me"
Do you think that maybe the lure of skittles and chip crumbs brought her your way? Did she help "clean" the car? Maybe you could have tossed her the keys and she would have taken the truck to the carwash? Good luck to the owners on finding her... she is a beauty.

That is awesome, Hammer. I read, and read, and then got down to the picture and cracked up. What a great pic! I'd be with the kids, falling in love with her too.

We had an ancient Yorkie show up at our house several summers ago. We could tell she was some kinda wore out. We fed her, let her sleep and ended up putting her out back because she kept peeing on the carpet. But then she kept falling into the pool. The vet used the chip locator/info thingamajig and we called the owner. Some old man that started crying when he saw her. She had somehow survived all the way across town and also got past I-95 in the process. Makes me cringe to think of this little bitty old, old dog making it across I-95.

You and your kids; the rest of the world should be watching and taking notes. Hilarious about the cute dog. Funny how critters just materialize like that. My mom and dad have a new Chiwawa (sp) that they inherited in a similar way. They were gonna give it back to whoever owned it, until mom fell in love. Dad keeps asking me "Don't you need a dog?"
