Finally back in the blog chair

The drive today sucked the cock of a maggot eaten horse corpse.

But... I was able to put my foot down, drive like an insane bastard and get everyone home safe through a gauntlet of window licking retard drivers.

I drove 11 hours straight at 80mph and my nerves are shot. I feel like someone beat the shit out of me with a sack of hammers. My wife was too nervous to drive much and to be honest the roads and other drivers were so horrid I thought she was going to have a panic attack so I went ahead and took over.

Driving through the south has some nice scenery, nice people and interesting attractions. Mostly we looked at rest stop bathrooms but it seems each state is quite different from each other, even if you visit areas just five miles apart.

Bilouxi Mississippi was our first stop. We drove though the hurricane devastated town and finally found a newly built holiday inn on the beach. It was surrounded by wrecked buildings and businesses wiped down to the foundations. (pictures to come) It was a nice hotel but when we went down to the beach bits and pieces of peoples houses kept washing up in the surf.

Bricks, dinnerware, pottery, bathroom tile etc... We collected some of it as souvenirs. It's been almost two years since the hurricane wiped out the historic community off of US 90, but much of the debris is still out there. The place is still wild, kind of like Beirut, shell shocked and it seems like people are in survival mode, ready to kill or be killed.

Don't get me wrong, going to the beach was nice, but it was kind of scary and had a wild west feeling to it.

Two young attractive girls visiting from a neighboring town had a flat tire at the ocean side parking, so my wife left me there to protect them until we could get it repaired.

I thought it may have been over cautious, but sure enough, 4 different predatory weirdos came by and tried to fuck with them. Luckily I was able to persuade the assholes to step the fuck off.

The mobile tire guy ended up stealing their rim and tire so I installed their spare and sent them on their way. I felt bad that they got fucked over, but I was glad I stayed and made sure they were not raped and killed.

Well there's lots more to the vacation but I'll continue later and post some pics.

I'll get to everyone's blog too by Monday. I promise :)

In regards to the tire-changing adventure, there are reasons why I change my own tires (don't forget to properly torque the tires- shops use an impact wrench 99% of the time and don't), and have a good jack and breaker bar, and cheater bar.

And the fact that there is a Rem.870 within reaching distance doesn't hurt, either...

Geez, and Snowman Poop gives me hell for saying it sucked donkey dick.

Glad you're back, not that we missed you or anything!

Did ya notice if the airbase was still in Biloxi or was it blown away? Was there in 64 and 65!

Be safe...get back soon.

If you come to East Tennessee...hollar at me!

You're a good man for staying with the girls, and good will come back to you when least expected. How sad that two years later not much appears to have changed. It must be so draining for folks to feel forgotten and hopeless with all the debris around. Glad you are all safe and home...it's the best.

Yep. That wuz the rote that I took pulling the Jayco back in April when we went to Kerrville. Seems like some of those girls in the little red cars think they are in a NASCAR event and the semi-drivers KNOW that they are in a race.

WELCOME HOME!!
That's exactly how we drive the 1100 miles, through the prairie provinces, to Edmonton, when we visit our daughter.
It seems like only the corporations and the rich have been able to rebuild in that devastated area. :(

I can't imagine driving 11 hours straight. I think 5 hours is the most I ever did with an overloaded poor excuse of a car with a motorcycle engine, but once I got to my new home and could offload my life's belongings into it, it felt like home and it was awesome... ha good days. Looking forward to the stories and pictures from your family adventure.

Good Sunday morning Hammer !

Those long drives are horrid !

My Dad was stationed in Biloxi during world war 2 -- I'll tell he and my Mom about how devastated the town still is. I'm sure they will be sad because they have so many memories from there.
That picture kind of said it all...

I'm glad you were able to protect those 2 girls -- very good timing that you were there.

Glad to see you back, Hammer.

Well done protecting those two young ladies. It's nice to see that chivalry isn't dead.

Absolutely priceless! There should be awards for that shit!

Glad to hear that you and the family are back in one piece. It's always refreshing to hear about someone doing the right thing because it's simply the right thing to do. I fear that it's a fading trend.

The mobile tire guy stole their rim and tire??? Oh my gosh. Who can you trust if you can't trust the guy who is supposed to do the tire? I'm never going to Mississippi after reading this.

What WOULD have happened to those girls if you weren't there. That's pretty scary.

11 hours straight is kinda crazy Hammer - only a couple more and you wouldv'e travelled from one end of the South Island (NZ) to the other!! hahaha.

I dont really like driving when we travel either but sometimes I just have to get out of the passenger side seat and do my share of driving. But glad you and the wife and kids are back safe and sound. Catch you tomorrow. N.

Hammer,

Welcome back dude! Wow this was interesting. It is amazing to me that they have not rebuilt quickly and that things are still as bad as all that.

Man!

I went for a week in Gulf Shores, Alabama several years after a late 70s hurricane almost demolished the whole place. Even 4 years after it had that scary wild west feel you spoke of here, even though it was much more rebuilt than your pics of Biloxi show. You could stand on the beach at certain times and be the only one out there and it was easy to imagine that you were the last person on earth.
