Actually, it's from two years ago... it's just my favorite one. Hmmm... maybe Amityville Toaster is my favorite. Well, Squirrel Songs is pretty funny...
It's all nonsens any way. When the Christianity arose, no one would celebrate that idea at all, so the authorities of Christianity had to put the celebrations to times of the year when it already WAS a celebration, and by time twist the human mind to believe it actually all the time have been a celebration of a child that never have lived. Even in the Bible, this "Jesus" suppose to be born at the Harvest-feast. That is in Sept./Oct. The Ortodox celebrate this "birth" the 9.Jan. How many times was he born?? Christianity has taken all the feasts they celebrate from the paganism. How do they deal with the fact that they are cheated up the wall?
As Kirsten was saying, the development of Christianity in the early stages is very... well... interesting. I certainly don't see how all the parallels with Mithraism could be coincidence. You read enough, and it does start to look like a religious chameleon. Still, it gets to me when I hear about people screaming that their First Ammendment rights or Seperation of Church and State are being violated because there's a Nativity scene outside of a school. They don't understand what the Constitution means, and the Christian symbols of the season are familiar to us... we know it's holiday time when the plastic Wise Men show up in front yards. And I don't begrudge Christians their holiday happiness. I just don't like the "Jesus is the reason for the season!" crowd. Other religions have holidays around this time, too.
