Messed up

Since the last election I've noticed a lot of screwy stuff going on. Messed up stuff. Quite scary actually. Maybe you've seen it too.

Right after the inauguration I picked up my son from middle school. He said "dad we didn't have school today they just showed Obama on TV all day in every class the teachers said it was historic"

I've never known for a school to stop classes for an inauguration unless it happened to be going on during social studies.

The following week I picked up my son once again and he said "dad I'm really worried school is getting messed up" I asked him what happened.

"Did they have booking when you were in school?"

I said I hadn't heard of it.

My son told me that after the inauguration the "brown boys" were marching down the hall chanting Obama Obama and when they came across a white kid they slammed the kid's books out of his hand and kicked the books and papers down the hall while laughing.

I asked my kid if any teachers saw this.. he said yes but the teachers looked like they didn't know what to do.

I called the school and complained..they said that there have been behavioral issues since the election and they were looking into it.

I picked up my daughters from school the next day and my oldest said.. Miss Jimenez put up a giant picture of Obama in our classroom next to the flag for when we say the pledge. I asked he if there used to be one of George Bush in the same spot...she said no.

I called the school to complain and they acted like I had 2 heads, but apparently enough noise was made to where they moved the obama portrait to the other side of the chalk board.

Last week my youngest daughter came home and asked if I would help with her social studies project. I said "sure what is it?" "The teacher said we have to do a biography of someone we admire the most". I asked her who she picked. "Well the teacher said I could do Martin Luther King jr or Rosa Parks..." I asked my daughter if that's who she admired most....she said no that's what the teacher is making her do....apparently in her class the admired most choices were limited to Obama, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks because that's all they could pick.

I Emailed the teacher to complain... here's what I got back: Your daughter is finishing up her research tomorrow- she has already done the large majority of it- we are basing our research off of the books available to us in the library. Sorry! She is doing great so far!

I want to pull the kids out of school and teach them myself but the wife is dead set against it. I wonder how bad this bullshit is going to get.

We homeschool, so we don't have to put up with this indoctrination and PC crap. We also don't have all the bad influences.

No surprise that the cult of personality has permeated schools like this, being as they're union.

I would HAMMER on them about the portrait issue. If Bush's wasn't up there, Obama's should be removed. If it was an established practice for EVERY president I would say it was okay.

But it's a blatant move that smacks of indoctrination whether it is intentional or subconscious ion the part of the teacher.

Interesting. Have you ever read the Mission Statement of the Department of Education? If it has not changed since I got my degree some 15 years ago, it is to help create 'better citizens.' I know schools are locally funded and operated but a LOT of those local funds comes via trickle down from the feds. Propaganda is by no means new to the realm of education.
Public education coupled with an insightful and enlightening parent can mean that your kids learn some real important lessons...about things that aren't covered in the textbooks.

This is a public school?? That's really creepy stuff. I thought all this Obama worship was dying down when it became clear that all his changes weren't going to be so popular after all.

my prayers are lifted for parents of school-aged children today. My daughter is already making the decision to home-school my 3 & 2 year old grandgirls... between the PC stuff and the teaching designed to pass a test...my daughter refuses to give in. she wants her children to have an education. My biggest fear of home-schooling has been the social development...these days there is so much networking, it does not appear to be the same issue as it once was. Besides, my heart would break if any of my grandgirls were ever 'booked'! Arrrggghhhh!

The most upsetting post I've read lately. I would certainly pursue the options of homeschool or private school, cause the bullshit you described will only get worse.I know there are some real good folks teaching, and trying to do the right thing, but the school system it self is so bureaucratic, and money hungry,in every State of the Nation, that they have little input. To limit the most admired,to the choices you gave,is unthinkable.Perhaps you should help your daughter, and ghostwrite a Bio of Robert E Lee,or Abe Lincoln, set back, and see what response you get.Tell em your daughter could'nt write about someone she does'nt admire.Sure glad, all mine are grown, and I don't have to contend with what you young people do.

Wouldn't worry too much about networking and socialising in Govt. schools, most will end up Govt. controlled loosers.
There's plenty of alternatives where you Grand daughters can mix with motivated, polite and educated children such as Girl scouts or chuch groups etc.
The brightest children I've met where home schooled and it showed.

Holy Crap. Indoctrination at its finest. What a bunch of bull shit.
And you happen to be a parent who takes interest in what their child does at school. Imagine all the kids out there whose parents are completely oblivious because they assume their tax dollars are giving their kids a fair and balanced education. If at all possible I would pull your kids out or at least get enough parents to threaten to do it to get your point across.

Homeschooling is becoming a target of this administration. They are actively trying to get it outlawed. On a related note, how about that mother who absconded with her child out of country because an activist judge wouldn't allow the family to make their own medical decisions and wanted to force chemotherapy. Told them if they didn't comply the child (13 y/o boy) would be removed from their home and remanded to foster care because of unfit parenting. People: be active in the development of your child because the government wants them just as bad as you do.

Good for you, Hammer! You are totally "within bounds" on bringing these issues up to the school administration. Schools complain when parents are apathetic, then get anal when they are not.

I thought there was "ZERO TOLERENCE" for violence in school ... if white girls were knocking books out of ethnic kids hands while chanting "PALIN! PALIN!" it would be on the national news.

I was a kid when JFK was elected; teachers were as much in love with him as teachers today are with Obama. Historic aspects: first Irish Catholic President, youngest President, great orator, idealist, etc etc etc. Classes were stopped and TVs were brought in for many of his events. But I don't EVER remember being ASSIGNED someone that I "most admired."

My hat is off to you. "It's Hammer Time."

I am against home schooling for many reasons, but that is just my personal opinion. And none of this things you mentioned really bother me that much because I am sure you give the kids the other side of the coin at home. Oh, and also I don't have kids, so I don't really know...

But the problems I have are that Obama trippled our national debt in 100 days - spending more than every other president combined ever spent in total. And he took away the tax deduction on my student loan. And he is kissing terrorist's asses. I don't know where Obama was on 9/11, but I was in NYC. He apparently doesn't remember things the way I do.

Hammer, this is some scary shit. I am glad my last one only has one more year of high school, although I haven't seen such stuff going on in her school. In reference to the "brown boys" now that could lead to some serious problems.

I homeschooled my daughter for awhile but we don't have a great network here and she missed the social aspect of school-- so I enrolled her with the understanding that I would pull her out if I didn't like where things were going. So far we haven't had the outrageous stuff you mentioned-- which is odd since we live in California. But my daughter is out if we have to start putting up with that kind of indoctrination.

The election of Obama heralded the end of racism in America. It seems that the reality is that racism still exists and the victims of discrimination are now the racists.

Something's definitely not right here. What kind of teacher assigns a project on the person you admire most, and then limits those choices to 3 people of her choosing? Just WRONG.

But homeschooling and private are a massive commitment. As a single parent I simply couldnt reach it here. maybe the best course is to make sure you hone your kids critical facilities to cope with this and all the future bullshit to come, as well? Thats what I tried anyway..

I would not jerk my kids out of school because of this. I would file a complaint with the school board. Its fine to have a Presidential portrait. But it should always be the President at the time. So if they have Obamas picture up there they should have had Bush and Clinton and all the rest of them. As far as the bullies I would find out their names and let their parents take their ass whipping for them.

As far as I know, nothing like this happens in our public schools. Of course, we haven't elected a black or Muslim or First Nations Prime Minister so who knows.

I don't know a lot about homeschooling so I have no opinion. I know of only one family who did it and their children were accepted into university.

No way in he11 would I put up with any of the horse chit your kids seem to be having to put up with. First off, every child is guaranteed a SAFE learning environment. If the teachers allowed students to "book" other kids they would be on the receiving end of one hellacious lawsuit if it were my child. I would be keeping a very close eye on what is going on at the schools, and if possible let other parents that seem oblivious know also. The only way to get this stopped, and stopped quickly is a very loud voice, and for that you need numbers.

My son goes to a very diverse public school and they teach everything. I love my son's school. :-)

Red, as for the kid with cancer...the kid is going to die if he doesn't get treatment. If it's an adult who wants to refuse treatment that's one thing, but this isn't an adult, it's a child. If he dies due to medical neglect I hope the mother goes to prison for life.

That's some crazy shit. "You will admire (insert name here) the most, and LIKE it!" MLK and Rosa Parks are certainly worthy of admiration, but that's not admiration...

Perhaps your daughter's teacher has been eating too many paint chips.

I did it right- start within the school. If no changes come about then go higher- at last resort you might want to drop a "tip" to the media- Obama worship out of control in local school sounds about right.

As a mom of a 10 yo, I have seen what the public schools do here in ILL-in-Noise. My DD's 4th grade teacher probably does the same thing- here's a list of people to do a report on, read a book on, someone you admire most (prevents the kids writing about I-Carly, SpongeBob or whatever) blah, blah, blah, It looks like your DD's list was too short. This list would only be acceptable for Black history month. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard a version of the Rosa Parks story from my DD during Feb. (Kill me now, if I mention a name close to Rosa or I'll hear it again)

BTW, my DD and her entire class mates (so she says) are against anything Obama. Really, very funny since the it's his picture you see as you enter the elementary school, under famous ILL-in-annoyans. Right over Jake and Elwood and Gov Blago er now Quinn. Her classroom is safe from Obama, cause her teacher is so lazy er laid back that she won't take the time to change anything around the classroom except the countdown days until end of school.(which is 11-OMG only 11, 11, 11, ker-rap- summer time fun for me, mom..yeah right...and maybe getting a new child- a dog... bow-wow)

sounds like the bullshit is already bad enough to warrant homeschooling.

what your kids are mentioning are only the things they remember or know enough to tell you about.
