More from the WTF files

When I was a kid, cheerleaders jumped up and down with pom poms and said yay team. Seemed fine with me. Clean wholesome school spirit and all that.

I was at a restaurant with the family and they were showing a national cheerleading competition on TV with dozens of highschools represented.

I noticed that cheerleading has turned into dry humping, hip hop grinding, and simulated sexual intercourse.

No fucking way would I let my daughters get on a stage and do that shit. Has our society really become that desensitized to children behaving this way? The coaches and instructors that develop these routines should be taken out and whipped.

My nephew is in highschool so I asked him if cheerleaders really do that suggestive dancing at his school. He said yes and many of last years graduating class are now working in titty bars. WTF???

The high school my kids attend has a "Senior Girls Dance" every year at halftime during the homecoming football game. It's exactly what it sounds like. The senior girls get together, learn a dance routine and perform for the crowd. I was uncomfortable the last time I saw this and wondered how all those parents could agree to the moves these girls were making. It's sad.

That's awesome! Ironically, I know a cheerleader from high school who went on to become a stripper! What a coincidence. She was the slutty cheer leader though.

If my Mom were alive today, she would say that it is all the fault of rock'n'roll music, Elvis and James Brown, etc., etc. Back in the dark ages -when I was in school, almost 50 years ago now -the cheerleaders did the "rah, rah" thing and that was pretty much it. Nothing that would have been considered suggestive about it. Over the years, EVERYTHING has changed making virtually everything very suggestive now. Clothing, dance, just for openers and yes, music too. Around here where I live, I've not heard of any of the former cheerleaders -or other girls for that matter -moving on to become strippers, pole dancers, etc., or even working in "titty" bars but that's probably simply because we don't have a preponderance of them around these old hills to begin with. There is a whole lot of laxity, overall though, in the moral fiber today, compared to the 50s and 60s in my opinion which is probably not even worth two cents in most places.

Just another sign of the complete decay of our society.

There's a lot of over sexualization in our culture now. Unnecessary and unbalanced - is it any wonder fundamentalist Muslims think we're so decadent? and our women are all whores? At the same time America is presented as being a Christian country. hmmm

Thing is - look at the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders - then consider that they are the role models for school cheerleaders. Girls have very little reason now not to be whores unless they are intellectually gifted. Sex sells after all.

I can't believe it either. Can't someone think of a sidelines/halftime entertainment that isn't sexually suggestive?

This is the reason I loved that my kids went to a country school. My youngest DD was a rally girl but there were limits on the dress and routines. It was old fashioned, fun and quite athletic...

Even the younger ones that participate in beauty pageants and dance competitions are pulling off lambada moves. It's crazy how the parents think it's all cute and funny...until their sweet little girls wind up on a strip club stage when they're 18.

Welcome back!

I'm with you. I'm entirely grumpy now.

My kids have a good set of friends, and since the oldest is in High School, I guess we're pretty lucky. Still makes me feel like a total grumpy old fart, tho.

Gotta go - the dang kids are back on my lawn ...

You should see some of the ones at oh, say, WSSU or NCA&T and the local high schools that emulate them. Completely and totally sleazy. And this is coming from a former high school and college cheerleader!(OK, 15 years ago, but that's not that damn long!)

my oldest was a rah-rah...but she went to a private Christian High School, so it was mostly gymnastics and no suggestive moves like you see else where.

It's on of the main bullet-points on the To-Do list of those seeking the decline and destruction of family-based Civilization - sexualizing kids earlier and earlier.
