Summer stuff
I haven't been blogging and visiting as regularly and I would like. Alone time has been rare for me since the summer started. The kids are home and the wife is home all day then works a few hours at night. I like it when they are home but they sure keep me busy.
When I'm alone, food is utilitarian and I probably eat once per day. Cooking and eating aren't any fun unless there is someone to share it with. Lately however, I'm finding myself making elaborate meals three times a day. I enjoy cooking and don't consider it work at all. I've been experimenting with canning my own jalapenos, pickles and homemade salsa. The results have been good so far.
We haven't been eating out and honestly there are only a couple places that serve anything palatable. I'm too cheap to drop sixty bucks for a meal that I'm just going to flush in 24 hours. So instead the kids and I cook together. Now that they aren't so spazzy, teaching them is a lot of fun.
During the day the girls like to bring the dogs inside and make elaborate forts for them with all the blankets and couch cushions. At first I thought Marvin and Chula would be annoyed at having to crawl through tunnels made of quilts and clothes baskets but they seem to enjoy it immensely. I was surprised to see that for the first time since Marvin's back surgery and partial paralysis 4 years ago he is running and jumping again. I'm glad we opted to spend the $3000 to pull the broken cartilage out of his back. He's a good dog and has been thought several traumatizing experiences.
And in other news:
What's all this shit on the TV lately?...The astronomical term "black hole" is racist. Obama telling black fathers to not abandon their children makes Jesse Jackson want to cut his nuts off? The term "devils food cake" is racist? Putting crack dealers in jail is racist. Capcom's Resident Evil 5 is racist because there are zombies in Africa... What the fuck? The race card is overdrawn.. your account is in arrears... now shut the fuck up already.
I wonder if the Obama candidacy is causing this sudden upsurge in ridiculous claims of bigotry and bias?

And my family probably wonders why I can be found some days curled up in bed watching old Agatha Christie flicks. And quite frankly, me and hub have shared many snuggles lately giggling in bed at night watching Gilligan episodes that I bought on DVD recently. Newspapers suck, so does most t.v. and the 'news' programs... forget it!
I'm sick of this election and of the crap attached to it and all the political correctness bullshit, ETC.
I always loved making forts with blankets and chairs and cushions and so did my kids and our pets!!
What fun!
Happy cooking. :)
ROFL, sounds like the North of 49 overly-PC disease is striking down there too. My deepest sympathies and here's hoping it passes very quickly.
Black is still a color, isn't it?
I dunno. I could get my panties in a bunch over the term, "tickling the ivories."
Yes. And it's only going to get worse, especially if he wins.
Hey, what a fantastic dad you are to spend time cooking with your kids.
Its nice to see that you are having fun with the family. So am I. Things seem to be going around in stages here.
Can someone explain to me exactly what Jesse Jackson does for a living? Are he and Al Sharpton selling porn under the table? Where do they make their money?
Or is it that once he runs out of money he has to go and start some shit to charge his usual fee to go around the news and talk show circuit?
Someone please explain because this Spic just doesn't seem to understand....

I'm with you on eating out. It's just not worth the money for the disappointment.
Teaching your kids to cook is THE best life skill to give them! In our society, cooking is a dying art. I had to force my daughter to learn, but now she's grateful. Z has loved the experience.
We have been working with Kiddo cooking too. He made all the meat sauce for the spaghetti last night. He did a good job. Could have used a tiny bit more of the spices, but better to be cautious then add to much.
I don't even want to get started on the whole race thing, cuz I will say something that just might end my ass up in jail.
I remember when Oprah got really pissed at Tiger Woods, cuz they wanted to call him African American and how good he did for the black people. And he made it very very clear that his mother was asian and he has a bunch of white in him too, and he isn't about to choose one race, or let any race use him as thier "hero" I thought that was so cool.
Wish Obama would do the same thing, seeing he has lots of white blood in him too.
So his comments make Jesse Jackson want to cut his nuts off, but if McCain made the same comments then he would have been prosecuted and strung up.
LOL @ Joan!
I miss cooking for the cult of cheese.. but I am blessed with fabulous eateries in this area. I still cook just not as often~
Isn't it amazing that Cambodians, Asian Indians, Poles, and others are doing quite well even after coming to this country with a bare minimum of savings, and they have no spokesmen to shake down the government or large corporations on their behalf, while some people who have been here 400 years and have all of these spokesmen are still doing badly?
Dr. King was a genius who was able to fight for the civil rights his people needed to get out from under second class living, while preventing a civil war and a whole lot of bloodletting that could've happened if he wasn't such an artful leader. But he was a one-off, the perfect marriage of the man and the times. All these other "leaders" are something else. If I had a "white leader" who spoke as ridiculously as them, I'd look for a new one, and wouldn't make that fool uncriticizable or give him a pass for saying he'd like to castrate the first presidential candidate of my ethnicity.
If Obama was a golfer everyone would want his autograph.
Funny, I hate cooking for myself as well. I only enjoy cooking when there is someone to appreciate it. When I am alone I live on Havarti sandwiches and Progresso soup.
My DD made a cushion fort, on Friday night. She took a flash light in and watched the Disney Thunderbirds movie. The cat was amused until, she became part of the fort, as the blanket roof fell in.
Busy times here, also.
Life is like that yah know.
Like - my mom going in for cardio blast this Friday And working with an OT to handle my DD's Sensory Integration Disorder- (The mystery is solved about her and not wanting to wear different clothes and the behavior she has developed to cope with how her senses feel things.)
The gas prices are rising along with my stress level-LOL.
Pretty soon nobody will say anything at all because they'll be afraid of saying something wrong.
Of course, that won't stop some people.
don't turn into a fatass on us hammer!
bubba
Forts? Chulo and Marvin in and out of Forts? Okay...Where are the photographs? Gee Whiz, Hammer!!!
Cooking with your children is one way of making a memory that will last forever. Not to mention providing you all with some of the best fun you'll ever have, it's a great way of encouraging the learning process to continue throughout the school year. Way to go.
I'd be interested in hearing throughout the summer of how the canning process goes. That's one part of cooking that has escaped me except for relishes. Jams........well.......No.
i have never canned anything. I wouldn;t know where to start
Don't forget that expecting neighbors not to throw their trash in your yard is racist. I may not be worried about how to straighten them all out on the idea that I'm racist, but I'm certainly pissed off about it. I've had about enough of being treated like life's never been hard for me because white people are all rich and have jobs with huge companies. The very people screaming "Racist!" refuse to acknowledge their own racism. I'm waiting for the first time I hear a black person say, "Now, don't get me wrong... I have lots of white friends..."
The race card is waaaay overdrawn - it is pathetic. Kelly said it well.
Cooking at home has so much to recommend it - mhmmmm, usually MUCH better than what you can find in many restaurants that don't use fresh vegetables/fruit or good qualility ingredients.
Hey even Jesse Jackson wants a chunk of Obama LMAO.....hey Hamms you need to try my Avocado Dip I found
Tis GoooooD
Making homemade salsa is fun - I love making big batches and giving it away. That's so cute that you cook with your kids! And the dog forts? We would love nothing more than to see pics of this!! :)
Now that's how to spend your summer. Cooking real food with your kids? AWESOME.
I used to make forts like that with card tables and old sheets. it was fun.
And the old race baiters will always have some stupid shit to talk about. Otherwise they'd have to get a job.
