In other news...

We're having problems with teachers again. My oldest daughter who has a learning disability was placed in the class of a brand new teacher who refuses to follow the IEP (Individual education plan) That we set up.
Everytime we call a meeting and ask her why our daughter failed 3 tests in a row and hasn't finished any classwork. This teacher makes up some story about how our daughter is constantly in the restroom or at the school nurse for some fake problem.
We ended up calling the school nurse and the teaching assistant to ask if this was true. Nope. All lies. My daughter has been to the nurse 4 times all year and each time with a fever.
My wife and I were ready to sue the school and have our daughter moved. However, this stupid teacher falsified the records and gave my daughter straight As for the year in order to cover her tracks. She has since has been fired and the school has promised to do anything we want.
During this time, we have taken my daughter to a doctor to try to discover what particular learning disability we were dealing with. After a battery of tests and a slew of specialists, they've determined that the 2nd story fall that my daughter endured before she was put in state care, damaged the part of her brain that controls verbal skills and short term memory.
Fortunately, not unlike a stroke victim, my daughter has developed ways to cope and her brain has re-routed itself so that she compensates by having extremely fast visual comprehension.
For example, when shown two pictures and is asked to find the differences, she finishes 5 times faster than anyone else. When she's shown a picture for a brief moment, she can describe every minute detail from memory... It's amazing to witness.
So this doctor is going to go to our next school meeting with her findings and will make sure my daughter gets placed in the proper program and is given the right resources.
Did I mention that my daughters doctor sits on the school board? Hehehehehe.

NICE!
AT least you have THAT working in your favor.
sheesh
yeah, it is good that you have someone on the inside but the crime is that one damn near has to have that to get anything accomplished
I hope that teacher has her teaching certificate revoked. It's insane that anyone should get away with what she did.
Glad to hear you were able to pinpoint your daughter's disability as well as her strengths. I hope knowing exactly how her brain is working will help ease her journey through her school years.
You and I share similar frustrations in the public (?) school realm. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I've struggled with similar issues and had to bring in the "big guns" to break through the bureaucracy. Sounds like you may have a hole-in-one on your side!
Yuck. I've sat through many a IEP meeting. Sometimes they can be really great and beneficial....other times it feels like an hour of a bunch of people blowing smoke up each other's asses and nothing ever gets accomplished. Everybody promises they'll do this an do that but the next time you meet your met with a bunch of excuses. It can be very frustrating when one or more people don't pull their weight in the plan. Good for you for keeping on top of it.
This is good news. But I sorry that you had to go to extremes to get rid of the dirt bag teacher. I hope they kicked the teacher's ass as they escorted her out the door. (hope the next school that ends up with this turd finds out about her the 1st day)
I'm currently working with a doctor to see if my DD has SID- Sensory Integration Disorder. This could be the cause of all her clothes problems.
Fukking schools
It wasn't until my son was in the 2nd grade that WE figured out he had vision problems and endured a school district that said we needed to work more with our son at home (we had to teach him Phonics and Reading skills) His writing skills are horrible but his reading comp. in the 4th grad was at collage freshman. He could not pass a written test at all but would get a 100% on the same test taken verbally. I have a special hatred for schools. Not teachers so much but school systems.
When you have a child with a learning disability it's a constant battle. Last year we went through a very rough time with the school, and it's like they didn't care what the iep said they were going to treat him like everyone else anyway. This year I made sure I got aggressive right off the bat and we've had a great year. It's too bad I had to get demanding and bitchy to make sure my son's rights were protected.
Hope everything goes well with your daughter.
that'll teach them to pee in your cheerios!
good for the hammer family!

Awesome news - I'll bet it makes a huge difference when you have someone with a bit of authority behind you.
Excellent my friend! I'm so happy she compensated from the fall- even though the school board news is cool too!

Loved your last line. It's nice to know good people are on your side!
Great job in following through on that bitch!
Sounds like your daughter has done something to be very proud of too!
That's pretty cool that she has such fast visual comprehension to make up for other things. The brain is a pretty amazing thing.
Great news! If things don't work out, you may want to look into "cyber-school" My youngest went thru 11th grade that way. It's not for everybody but it's an option.
That's awesome, dude. It's nice to win over those who would hide behind "the system," which is only screwed up because of people like them.
Nice win, Hammer.

The human body is such an amazing thing. Have you seen the Discover Channel special about the incredible things of which our bodies are capable? It's a GREAT show that everyone needs to catch when it reruns. It talks about how the Shaolin Monks can withstand excruciating pain through meditation and how this one guy survived 30 days without food or water...all brain power. It's neat.
I'm glad you are getting proper support for your daughter!
Wow. I wonder if the school did anything to flag that teachers certificate at SBEC. She should NOT be teaching obedience school at an animal shelter, let alone our children.
so it's like a photographic memory.. I hate those 2 picture things... I suck at those
