Pissed.
Someone took the nice apartments down the street from me and turned them into Section 8 housing. Now my really nice clean neighborhood is innudated by dirty jobless scumbags wandering around at all hours. I have to walk my kids into school now because the bums cut across the school grounds to get to the bus stop and drink their 40 of malt liquor. It fucking sucks.
Before 6 months ago, there was none of this. Now I have to listen to pounding (C)rap music rattling my windows at night as they case the houses in my subdivision for future robberies.
I had to buy a locking cas gap because some scumbag mother fucker was getting me for 5 gallons every other night. The mileage indicator in my truck went from 20mpg to 5mpg..Now that my precious fuel is under lock and key the pilferage has stopped.
I've lived in this quiet clean community for 10 years and now it's heading into the shitter because some asshole decided to let the shiftless, worthless crackhead bums have free housing next to my kid's school.
I think it's time to get out before my property values plummet.

Good luck. I was just reading yesterday that a good school is the #1 reason that people buy certain properties over others. Your blog certainly drives that home.
My neighborhood is edging that way. I'm starting to look.
Hopefully, you aren't too late. Totally sucks that such a thing could happen. Here, our housing is somewhat integrated - no one type of neighborhood is too huge - no massive ghettos and there are few if any entire buildings that are subsidized. We do get crime but it isn't rampant. Drunks tend to congregate downtown where perhaps the cheaper housing is a little more concentrated.
I'm sorry to hear this, and I hope they move before you do. It really sucks.
Sell NOW. Before the neighborhood takes on even more, permanent visual marks of ghetto for the home buyers to see and be repelled by. You know when you give someone something, they ruin it as fast as they can, like a two year old with his first slot car racer.
I grew up during the "change" in Gary. There were two types of residents - those who left NOW and got what they could, and those left over who couldn't get squat for their homes, and the insurance companies already redlined them, so burning it down for insurance money was out of the question. They then became prisoners of their homes. I saw a Leave It to Beaver setting look like Nagasaki after the blast in a decade.
It's a shame that run is the only option, but staying and fighting the drug dealers and the gangs just brands you a racist and gets you killed faster.
Though the property value will plummet, think of the good side - the hood's car values will skyrocket. For a bunch of supposedly hard up poor people, you'd think you were in the Hamptons when you go through the Section 8's parking lot. Customized luxury rides. It's the poor working slob who has the 12 year old Intrepid or Taurus so he can make the house payments. The Section 8'er has the BMW.
I've seen way too much of this in our area too. The problem is, the hardworking people keep moving away, trying to maintain a life in a decent and safe neighborhood, but the urban decay just seems to follow. Seems like the community leaders are constantly trying to lure those same hardworking people back to the old neighborhoods in the hopes of rejuvenating, but who in their right mind is going to risk the safety of their family and expose themselves to theft and vandalism for the good of the city? Sorry. I'll keep moving away as far as I have to until the communities can get a grip on the crime and decay.
God, I hope that crap don't move out my way. We're pretty quiet, small-townish here; still close enough to SA to fuction there. I lurvs it.
I feel bad for you. My old hometown turned that way. The whole damn thing.

Yo, EXACTLY what "mts" said.
I am a third generation Brooklynite and I could take you on a tour of all the previously nice, middle class neighborhoods that my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins have all watched go to shit. Ghettos that make war-torn Baghdad seem like prime real estate.
Some of these areas have experienced an over-gentrification, which is almost as bad as the ghetto, since the working class gets priced out (i.e., Park Slope, my old 'hood) because rents skyrocket to 1,700-$1,850 for a studio and $1,900-$2,100 for a one-bedroom.
Absolutely ridiculous, and completely unfair to the people who bust their asses to bring home an honest day's wage and try to meet the cost of living. That goes for the gentrified areas, AND the areas where, as "mts" said, "...you go through the Section 8's parking lot and see nothing but [c]ustomized luxury rides."
I just don't get this backwards shit sometimes.
Bail Now!
Please take the American flag with you when you go.
The degenerates haven't ruined this area yet, but that's because it's in a bubble community where people pay out the ass for housing.
I feel your pain! Is your area zone for that? You can look into it. You just can't change single housing to apartment so easy. Look into your city codes. But that just isn't right. You can make those people have a living nightmare, start reporting them to the local police.
Hammer - Just curious; was there any mention of the Section 8 housing being brought into your neighborhood, in local government meetings?(Planning commissions, developers meetings, public forums?) Was there any chance of a petition from neighbors being able to stop it? Those of us who may face this happening in our area, is there really no way to prevent it? We work so hard to have what we have...
Sux Bro! And you have absolutely no control! The whole world is going into the crapper and God is about to push the handle!
Flushola unless we get our Chit together. Our gene pool is getting very shallow and most family trees don't even fork anymore.
Sorry to hear that Hammer. I'm in the woods! My neighbors are my landlord and we pay 300.00 a month for a 3 BR nice Mobile home with Two built on porches. Solid. He just went up to 375.00 after 7 years and I told him I would pay 400.00! He just had to install brand new ac! We can't move from here while I'm in school and you can't ask for better! 10 acres of hard woods and pines and no neighbors for 1/4 mile!
All I need is my 30.06, Browning (Belgium made) 12 ga. cica 1920 or so- from my Grandfather and my 22's. Single shot old Marlin and my new Marlin with 4x scope and I feel SECURE!
So there are places to move to--I just hate it wasn't your choice.

Here the whole town across the river has turned into Section 8 housing! It's horrible! Some guy pulled out a guy in the playground next to the police staion! So far my street is hanging tough, but I wouldn't mind leaving also.
That happened in my old neighborhood pretty much. We moved just at the right time. Here there is a nice school and no scumbags, crackheads etc. I'd def. recommend moving if you can swing it in this economy.
Sorry to hear about that Hammer, and it is a very frustrating situation. It happened in the neighborhood we moved from 4 years ago. We had lived in that nice, quiet neighborhood for 12 years and then it all went to shit. Very, Very frustrating!
hammer, you need to get out while the gettin is good. move to the country. there are plenty of small towns with good schools and teachers who care and you actually have neighbours who still look out for one another. i moved to my small north texas town in 2000 and have never locked my door on my house, even on vacation.

Isn't it about time we wake up and smell the filth? Letting blacks free to do what ever the hell they want in the name of diversity has done nothing but create a zoo like society. Their subhuman culture and vicious savage crime has ruined every place they have infested. If they had the ambition as a race to stop their unacceptable predictable behavior by themselves, perhaps there would be hope. But look around. It's been hundreds of years. The Asians have overcome. The Native Americans have prospered. The Hispanics have become valuable resources and contributors to society. But blacks? With their hands out demanding everything from more free money to open door prison policies! Blacks actually expect black criminals be acquitted and whites to be convicted...any other outcome draws riots and Al Sharpton! When their worthless piss poor excuse for a presidential candidate loses, they will claim racism and fixed balloting! It's NEVER their fault...even when the conviction records are laid out and blood is dripping off their hands! Why does this country and liberal bleeding hearts continue to allow this behavior? Does it make people feel better about themselves to accept violent murdering rapists set free because of some misconceived perception of oppression?! I find it to be a disgrace to excuse this behavior. And claiming there are a lot of good blacks doesn't cut it as an argument. The good blacks are the jurors who will set criminals free based solely on their race. The good blacks will still cast their votes based solely on race. Good blacks continually produce bad ones. There probably isn't a family of blacks on the planet that doesn't have a relative in prison for some serious crime. Not because he is black, but because he is a criminal. It's a disgrace indeed that anyone argue on behalf of this irresponsible illogical behavior by an entire race. Those who insist I am just a racist with blinders should consider how well all their efforts to provide Affirmative Action and lowered standards has worked to further the black cause. All it has done is provide us with more morons with college degrees gotten only because our standards are so low even a monkey can have a PhD today. It effects the white community too. We have some pretty dumb people who are where they do not belong because they ride the coat tails of lowered standards for blacks! Black culture has destroyed this country as it has any other country on Earth where it is allowed to spread. Section 8 housing down the road is the least of our worries...we live in a section 8 society now thanks to niggers and those who continue to enable their inefficiency.
looks like the good humor guy hammer is officially pist off!
must be all the people whose homes were foreclosed on?
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!
*8[
Section 8 never works correctly. It just ends up being a free ride for all involved.
Yeah, there is a reason for the "white flight" and the white flight is also joined by the black and yellow flights when neighborhood start going section eight..been there..
The only way to get by is to just move to the country...and with the price of fuel it is getting where it costs more to go get a loaf of bread than the bread costs..
ITA- get out right after school ends. I would move- you and your family deserve a safe neighborhood to live in.
Ummmm... maybe someone will accidently start a fire and the place will burn down. You never know with all those Section 8residents who like to cook outdoors....
I think I would have to move before it got any worse.
I probably need to get a locking cap for my truck, now that you've mentioned it!
Get out while you can!
Oh hammer! I am sorry this is happening to you.
The big controversy right now in my small town is that the city has zoned a certain plot of land right next to our beautiful and brand new city park, for low income apartments. Our neighborhoods are screaming!
I live in one of the first subdivisions ever built in this town. We don't have an HOA. But the other subdivisions around us do and I am hoping their screams are heard since they have $ to back them up.
If the city goes through with allowing the slums to move in, there goes our property values and there goes our beautiful new city park. It's full of activity every evening of the week. The Bug and I walk 2 miles around it every evening.
And all of that will come to a screaching hault.
Run, Forrest. Run.
That truly sucks that your neighborhood is taking a crap on you.
