Word Verification woes.

Is it just me or did blogger change it's word verification to something utterly unreadable? Just when I think I've deciphered the gobblety goop....nope try again. It looks like they are mixing fonts, letter thickness and then just to make sure, they swirl up the word so that you would have to be a cryptographer to get it right.

Fellow bloggers, don't be surprised if your regular commenters try to comment four times then throw something through their computer screen.

Here is an example:

Grrrrrr, makes me crazy when I can't read that damn thing. It think blogger got word that I need bifocals and haven't received my new glasses yet. No shit, it takes me 3 or 4 tries every. damn. time!

I believe that's "uttfssv". And yes, I have had an interest in cryptography for many years, LOL. Actually, I just had that problem while leaving a comment on Tam's blog. I copied my comment before I hit submit just in case I got the word verification wrong, but all it did was reload (with my comment still all typed in) and ask me to try again with the new one. I got that one right.

Typical Google/Blogger bullshit. They want the spam to hit their bolgs so they can somehow generate more cash (at least that would be what I would think the motivation for discouraging this feature)...
A few thousand letters to google threatening to go over to wordpress might convince them to reconsider?

I noticed that, too. I just passed my driver's license eye test, so I know it's not me.

Whew! Like everyone else I was wondering if this was just me! I've actually taken word verification off my blog for this very reason! Maybe that's what the blogger.com folks want??

My brother just did a post about how hackers.spammers are figuring out how to bypass the old style verification and are loading up pages of BS once again. I'm assuming this is Blogger's attempt to twart that from happening. I agree it is anoying though.

I've complained about that. I don't know why people use the word verification, unless they get a ton of spam comments. One or two spam comments does not equal "a problem".

Sometimes if the word is too hard to decipher or too long, I'll skip the comment.

It is annoying at times, but I manage after two tries usually.
I've seen some blogs don't have them. So how do you disable it and what is the disadvantage to?

Amen brudder man.. those of us that have to watch the lil' fingers as we type are screwed.. I took that off a long time ago and just went to approving the comments as to not clutter up with any spam.. I rarely get much anyhow. Plus some of my posts of the adult nature get some real wacko comments lol.
