7 weird things meme

Fire fox over at the lollipop tree tagged me for the 7 weird things meme. Some other nice folks also tagged me while I was on my blogging sabbatical as well.

I keep getting weirder every year so it's not hard to keep coming up with these things.

1. Up until my early 20's I had a strong desire to have a career in the military, police or federal law enforcement. Health issues and family pressures ended up sending me in other directions.

2. Being a father has made me disgusted with 95% of current popular media and supposed culture.

3. I didn't watch television from 1987 through 1992. I didn't even own a working TV.

4. I firmly believe that items that are given away for free are usually unappreciated and soon fall into disrepair.

5. I used to try to help people who were on a path of self destruction. I found that these people no matter what they say, do not want help and have to ultimately make their own way.

6. I can be friendly, cordial and get along with anyone, including liberals, satan worshippers, ex-cons, bikers, new age moonbats and hardcore rednecks. People are basically decent overall, they just live by a different code.

7. Throughout my life I've learned to numb myself to personal grief. I become very rational and matter of fact during a personal or family crisis almost to the point where I have to fake being upset to keep up apperances. However, I have extreme empathy and sadness for people I read about or see on the news who have endured something horrific.

I'll tag anyone who wants to do this because I may have missed those who have already completed this meme.

I am right with you on some of these, especially 6 and 7. But man, I couldn't live without a TV, even if only for the background noise.

Cheers Hammer!!

You sound like you would get along with Jeff and I in person. I mean we are people but if we ever met other than blogland here. We have alot of the same views. When I was told my grandmother had passed away I told my mom she was in a better place and dont remember shedding to many tears.

Oh, I'm weird. I'll have to try this one.

Now I know why you're cordial with me (considering what a liberal I am).

hammer - i'm nearly with you on #7 - i usually have my moment immediately and get over it in a hurry.

i've never had so much as a sip of gatorade in my life - that's about the weirdest occurrence i can think of in my life.

You seem very well balanced, especially after reading #6. I agree w/ you, people are people and will make mistakes. Generally, they're not all bad.

#3 surprised me. You always seem to be in tune w/ what's going on in the world, but I suppose you did a lot of newspaper reading in those days before the internet boom.

The TV thing! I am not a TV watcher ( unless I am forced to by the super powers who live in my house).

This was the result, when I lost the battle for remote, several years back.

Even though we have seveal TVs, it is veiwed by the Powers, that you can only watch what they want - on every single TV.

Also as part of the peace treaty, those who choose to read while others watch the same old reruns of ker-rap and dribble or endless non-home sport pragrams, will do so at risk of being named - NOT paying attention to the family.

The supreme commander of the winning side, is ALWAYS allowed to read the newspaper with the TV on and keep flipping through the channels for all the game scores, with out getting flipped off.

Thus giving civilian meaning to the Navy SEAL phrase:- It pays to be a winner!

LOL

I'm with Burfica: "what the hell is a new age moonbat?"
I already knew you were a simple understanding person, you just hide under a weird attitude, long hair and pretended bad mood towards others than your own family.lol.

the wings look delicious but they are too expensive for what was once considered junk.

I don't see any of this as "weird" but then I'm older too and have learned that acceptable is a much wider range than what it is when you are young and stupid.

I do the calm rational thing in an emergency...and in times of grief, if needed I will be the calm one, but it usually catches up with me when I don't have to be strong for others.

Your #5 is very astute. Having recently quit smoking, I can confirm that belief. It didn't work until I truly wanted it for myself.

Interesting list; perhaps I'll give it a shot.

Funny how things like our attitudes toward the media change as we get older and have kids.
