Shut up or go home.

Several thousand ethnic Chinese protesters marched outside CNN's Hollywood, California office Saturday to demand the firing of a commentator who recently compared China's leaders to a "bunch of goons and thugs.

Why on earth would Chinese Americans care about what CNN says about the Communist Chinese government? Why don't they go back and live under that system if they love it so much?

It seems to me that if one wishes to live in the United States and become a citizen they should give up allegiances to all other countries and foreign political organizations.

These are some of the biggest problems we have in this country right now.

The left loves to loudly proclaim how ashamed they are of America, Obama's preacher says "God damn AmeriKKKa" Obama's wife says how she's never been proud to be an American in her adult life. (She attended Princeton and Harvard)

The Mexican "immigrants legal and otherwise" who flock to this country in search of a better life are frantically waving their Mexican flags while plundering our social welfare system.

The Muslims are demanding that our public and private institutions to bend to Islamic religious law. For example, Muslims who work in food stores are refusing to sell pork and many cab drivers are refusing to pick up unaccompanied women, seeing eye dogs and passengers who posses or have consumed liquor.

Muslims at our Universities are demanding that class schedules be changed to accommodate their daily prayers. Next thing you know we will all be listening to prayer call 5 times a day over public loud speakers.

I think it was better when immigrants were treated like shit and had to work their asses off to be accepted into mainstream society. You don't see riots and anti American protests by Irish, Italian, Cuban and Polish Americans. Everyone on both sides of my family were 20th century immigrants and they taught me to keep my mouth shut, work hard and be grateful that I live in a country with so many liberties and opportunities.

I think in America ONLY english ought to be spoken if you want to be a citizen and live here. You want citizenship ? Apply for it and be fluent in the language here - or you're going to have to wait until you are.

You should only get assistance from the government medically or financially IF you are already contributing to the economy on a consistent basis, with at least a 5 year track record behind you. Stay in your country of origin if those rules are too stringent for you.

You pay your taxes.

You don't get special priviledegs because you are a minority.

You don't get to vote unless all of the above is already in place.

You fit in with the American way of life, and are grateful for the opportunities and liberty here. You don't try to demand it become just like your original homeland.

I agree Hammer. It's time for those of us who see the cancer in our society to stand up and demand it be removed.

I agree 100%! If you want to live in this country, then don't demand that we make accomodations for the traditions of the oppressive country in which you chose NOT to live.

Another fine Hammer rant! I TOTALLY agree!!
Don't forget English as a Second Language classes in our schools! Back in the mid 1800s, when my family got here, kids quickly learned English in their regular classes at school. At night, they taught their parents English, so they could pass their citizenship exams.

Sharia law doesn't belong in ANY modern society! If you want to wash your feet and pray, do it on your own time. If you want to murder your daughters for adopting American ways, go back to the mid-eastern hellhole you came from!

As a migrant myself, your last sentence has a certain resonance in the widest possible sense.

Sorry this bit is off-post - but I enjoyed your comment on my ice photos.

Way to go hammer! You hit the nail on the head, if you will forgive the pun.
Now, we just need several hundred more of YOU in our nation's capitol, and we will get things back on track in a hurry!
Great post.

My grandfathers both came over from the Old Country into the pre-union, pre-OSHA steel mills, the worst industry above ground. There was no bilingual signage, since it would have had to be in 20 languages for all of the d.p.'s from all over who were there. You quickly learned that duck meant get down, not some bird, or else you got cut in half. There was no insurance, let alone government aid, in the Depression, but all of their sons went into the service in WW II, damn the "last surviving maternal support" clause. One grandfather stood and saluted when they played the National Anthem, even when he had a walker. They knew if they stayed in their homelands, they would've been charnel when the Nazis came through, and appreciated the life their families now had.

It's not generational, though. You don't hear of Indians (slurpee type, not casino), Cambodians, Poles, Filipinos, or Koreans making protests or demanding their language be the premium. They're too busy building their lives. And of the ethnic Chinese protestors, I wonder how many are American born rich kids, versus real immigrants. A lot of Chinese I met can't stand Red China.

one word-"entitlement". People are more selfish than they used to be. Even native-born Americans would be better off keeping their heads down, working and minding their own business. Too many people want things their way.

I agree - they sneak over here in cargo containers to get away form China. If it is so wonderful why go to such great lengths to leave?

You can only feel ashamed of something (a country or otherwise) if you:

a.) Care about it
b.) Know he/she/they/it can do and should do better.

I'm ashamed of this country, and I think it's the patriotic thing to do.

Oh, and you forgot to mention the fundie Christian pharmacists that won't fill birth control prescriptions. Intolerance is everywhere, just to say.

anon: very well said

Erica: thanks :)

lexcen: It's hard to understand why somone would want to come to a free country in order to enslave it.

Terri: I agree, it's the epitomey of hippocracy to make the effort to love somewhere then want to make it like the shithole they just left.

guyk: Hell even my native american ancestors said fuck it and jumped on the bandwagon :)

Tshsmom: That's what gets me, all these politicans trying to allow sharia law in out communities. Tehre is no place for it in a free society.

david mcmahon: I'm glad to hear it :)

lonestar: Plain speaking people don't make popular politicians. I hope that changes someday :)

Mushy: I think we are on the same page :)

mts:astute observation. I wonder why some cultures embarace us while others want to tear us down.

Janet: selfishness is a very good word for it. There are always takers and abusers looking to put their foot in the door.

Phosgene: That was exactly my thought when I read the China article.

John: thanks :)

Stucco: I am ashamed of our politicians, bureacrats, legislators and our two party system. I do love our country. We are the biggest giver of charity, food, emergency response. We are the most free overall but it seems we are the most hated for it.

As for the pharmacists: Nobody in the private sector should be forced to do things that are against their morals. Like some doctors won't do abortions and some mechanics won't work on Volkswagons. I would hate to see the heavy hand of government force these things.

So where is the politician that I can elect who will represent these sentiments? I look around and find that people are expressing these thoughts more and more, but find no judge, magistrate, senator, congressman, presidential candidate that is willing to take it to the next level. How many of us are willing to do what is necessary to make these thoughts reality?

i have the sweetest friend here that was a polish immigrant. her family tried to escape during world war 2 and were captured by the germans and sent to germany for four years.

after years of separation, they finally reunited & came to the US. they had to have perfect teeth, no illness, speak english...there were all kinds of things they had to excel at. apparently, we USED to care about who we made an American. Now it's first come, first serve and all are welcome. i could hardly believe her as she told me all the tests they endured to come here.

great post.

Hi Hammer,

If private concerns are off limits, then you may want to revise the "problem" of private companies that "bend to Islamic Religious Law". (Selling pork, taxi's for single women, et al. Also, many universities are private too) It's either a problem or it isn't. I'd rather have people with moral objections find work that doesn't conflict them than me having to deal with them no matter their faith or reservations.

Also, are you suggesting that black people weren't immigrants? No riots? There in fact have been riots here with and about the Irish, German, Chinese and black peoples that spring to mind.

barbara: I'm seeing that trend myself

kvegas911 thanks :)

firefox: there were a couple in the start of the primaries, tancredo and duncan hunter in particular. But it seems enough folks aren't interested in immigration and nanny state reforms.

matt-man: you are hilarious!

supergurl: I've read about how many were shipped back from Ellis Island, it was indeed a lot tougher but millions still came and did well for themselves. I bet that would work these days just as well.

Stucco: I agree if a cab company wants to abide my islamic law they should be able to however since they are licensed by the state the muslim protests are not working out for them as it stands. Private universities with religious affiliation that do not accept public funds already have religious standards for thier students. Howerver I'm thinking more about our government funded institutions placating these islamic demands.

From what I understand the Watts rions and the LA riots in 1992 didn't have any particular leadership or political face it was just anger. Blacks didn't have a choice to come here but if you look at Africa today you can see they sure are a lot better off because of it. Most of the other riots were about labor practices and to rally against corruption not because Irish people wanted green beer and their own Blarney stone ;)

having just visited DC I am feeling even more patriotic than usual.

Living in California...I don't really have a problem with the schools making information available in multiple languages...HOWEVER...there is no e-phn way the voter information and ballots should be printed in anything other than english. Period. And if you are not here legally...no bank account....no drivers license...et cetera.

And the most important point I can make...is that we need as individuals to start paying very close attention to CAIR...
