A rant I've been saving.

What is it with people that ask you for advice and then get mad when they don't like what they hear? Even stupid things...

"Hey hammer do you think my car will pass inspection?" "What do you mean I need new tires?...goddamnit! you think I'm made out of fuckin money?" "Hammer..you are an asshole!"

It's easy for me to tell what candidate someone supports and I'm cool with people who have completely opposite views than myself. However, when they ask me who I'm supporting and don't get the answer that they want to hear. Kaboom! full blown tantrum and histrionics about "we need change" and "military industrial complex" and "Republicans hate poor people". There are two more long time friends that no longer speak to me because I refuse to support Obama. Oh well.

People try to talk to me about racism and how I don't know shit because I've never experienced bigotry...
I have experienced bigotry first hand and you know what? I got over it. I don't spend my whole life whining about how someone takes one look at my last name and refuses to show me a house in a decent neighborhood or take me seriously when I call about a loan or apply for a job. Actually, I hold no ill will towards these people.

There is a reason people hold racial and cultural stereotypes and the only way to overcome them is by being a good citizen, neighbor or parent and by setting an example for others. Marching around crying about how everything is unfair and racist is not going to change someone's perception of you..it will just reinforce it.

Check this out:
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida school board member is drawing fire from some parents for saying they should spend money on school clothes for their children instead of buying alcohol and cigarettes. School board member Jay Wheeler's
comments were made in an e-mail response to parents’ complaints that they cannot
afford the new uniforms mandated by the Osceola County School District,
"Everyone can afford Wal-Mart and if they can’t, they need to think about
turning off their cable TV or stop buying alcohol or cigarettes and spend their
money on their children."

You know what? Give that man a cigar. I guarantee you that all these people bitching about buying school uniforms are sitting in front of a nice TV with video games, DVD's and HBO. Children come first. How hard is that to understand?

Why is it that the same people who always complain about people not being tolerant enough of other people are the least tolerant when it comes to politics?

I made a similar comment on a blog about a discussion on poverty and how people can't afford to buy food. I suggested they quit smoking and buy food instead. My comments weren't appreciated.

I couldn't agree more!
Our PTA asks for $10 A YEAR from each parent at school to help pay for parties gifts and outings for their kids, we generally get a response from 1/3 of the parents.
The ones who complain usually have a cigarette in one hand and a mobile phone in the other. I tell them that by smoking 1 cigarette less a day they can cover the cost of their kids party fund. You wouldn't believe how pissy it makes them.

Stereotypes happen for a reason and they are not always negative. And only stupid people would think there were no exceptions.

I agree with you on the blogger's verification test. Cripes!

I tend to laugh when embarrassing things happen beyond your control. I figure there's no point waiting for that time "years from now" when I'll look back and laugh - if I can laugh then, why not now?

I avoid political discussions or giving advice to people, for these reasons.

Uniforms will cost less than regular school shopping so their whining doesn't make sense. The kids needs come first for us parental units.

Some people don't rethink their priorities when they have kids. And there are people who don't know how to budget. And they don't even know they should know how to do that. It's sad.

People are always asking for advice they don't want to hear. It gives them something else to complain about when you tell it like it is.

The only person I like to hear bitching is you. :)

I think people get offended when they hear things that hit too close to the mark. I'm glad there are people like you that aren't afraid to tell it like it is.

Great rant.
I have a cousin who I do battle with occasionally, him being repub his whole life, me being a dem... or as he calls me, damn yankee democrat. LOL We completely disagree over many issues and will probably never understand the others reasoning. So it's almost pointless to debate anymore. I think that being family, we'll always be there for each other should a serious situation arise, but our beliefs are so different it's scary. We know we don't have to ask each other anything anymore as whatever my answer is, his is opposite and vice versa.
We seriously need a 3rd party to get strong because these constant debates don't really go anywhere. We all end up just slinging mud. It not working individually or nationally.
You are absolutely right about overcoming difficulties is to just live by example.

jeff: Because fairness should only be shown to them it seems..

nanc: I'm Irish American Amer Indian and Mexican.no wonder we get along. ;)

Barbara: I'm blushing :)

lexcen: no one likes to hear the truth when it forces one to wake up and consider changing their habits.

cathy: lol you've experienced it first hand. Bravo to you for telling them about their smokes. :)

jeannie: You are so right. I would hope that people would stop hiding behind this politically correct nonsense and just be honest about how they feel about others good or bad.

evil lunch lady: So true. The people that have to endure stereotypes are hindered by those who perpetuate them.

matt-man: lol So that was you? ;)

jen: You are right about that. the designer shit kids wear these days costs tons more than a uniform.

Janet: It's like a foriegn concept. Some people are so spoiled I have no idea how they would survive tough times.

scarlet: thank you :)

terri: I used to not rant so much for fear of alienating people but then I figured I was doing myself and everyone else a disservice.

crystalchick: You are a perfect example of someone who can be cool with others despite differences. The mud slinging is useless.. facts are what matter. I agree a 3rd party is long overdue.

I agree with you on allcounts. Even the uniform thing. Because they knew their kids need uniforms for that school.

Now, when i was told three days in advance of a band concert that Kiddo had to have certain shirt, pants, and santa hat or he would not be allowed to play. I blew a gasket, cuz I would ahve to buy each and every thing. For one ONE performance. Pissed me off so I called the school.

I just expected them to let him wear other pants and shirt, but they actually went out and bought him pants and a shirt.

Okay whatever. gaaaahhhh

meh, not having cable tv and boozing it up wont make them better parents. hell, then they might have more time on their hands to be bad parents. sometimes absentee parents arent a bad thing when compared to the alternative.

I get in trouble all the time for speaking up. For a while, I stopped... now, if you don't like it, go away.

Then there's the people who come to you and have an issue but if you don't just buy into their "woe is me" spiel, they say you're a bad friend... It grates my last nerve.

anndi: that's why it's good to tell the truth and find out who our real frinds are :)

I love it when my daughter calls me from 500 miles away and says "Dad, my car is doing this thing..."
What the hell am I supposed to do about it from here I don't know.
Her hubby and his family are Obama supporters, they don't talk politics with me because since I'm retired Navy they assume that I'm a charter member of the evil RethugliKKKan right wing conspiracy. It freaks them out when I take a completely different view on things than I'm supposed to.

Ah ah, this guy from Osceola County makes me laugh, so clever, and so true, but people don't care, they love their child and still spend the money for cigarettes and alcohol.
