Tooth day was a success

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

I took her in about 9am. Daughter dear still didn't know what was going on despite me explaining it to her for the umpteenth time.

I filled out the paperwork and the assistant asked if we were doing the extractions today....

DUH! that's why you called me in...

They took more X-rays and said they needed to pull 5 teeth. "Uh all at once?" I asked cautiously.
"Oh yeah might as well get it over with." she replied.
So I sat down in the lobby and finished reading Glory Road

Before I knew it, they asked me to pull the car around to pick her up.

The nurse carried her out and said she would probably just want to sleep and to only give her Ice cream. My little one had a mouth full of bloody gauze and she kept muttering "whah happen...?

She was still goofy from the anesthesia. So I strapped her in her car seat and took her to whataburger for a chocolate shake. The place was packed, so I went to Baskin Robins. still..no parking.

So I took her to the grocery store and sat her in the shopping cart. I couldn't help but laugh because my daughter was acting all goofy like a relaxed drunk. She kept grabbing things and putting them in the cart and kept trying to help me pick produce. Nothing I said could dissuade her.

We got home and I sat her in front of the TV with some orange sherbet. She's resting but still silly as hell. I want some of whatever they are handing out at that dentists office.

Bad news is I've got to take her older sister in First thing Monday morning for the same procedure.

Five extractions???? What's going on, is there bacteria in the water???

Seriously there were that many big cavaties? Yikers.

Sounds like you've got one little soldier there. Best of luck with the next visit...

Tweety: she was really funny. she had me laughing in the store.

Bridget: Her baby teeth were blocking her adult teeth and everything was getting all snaggly.

I'm glad she's doing well. Hopefully when the anesthesia wears off she won't be in too much pain.

Your daughter has my deepest sympathy (5 extractions? The thought puts me under the covers!!!), but the good part is now she will be able to spend more time with her Daddy and have lots of orange sherbet...or whatever other soft foods she desires!

The good news for you, Hammer? Now that you have the drill down pat, Monday should go a little smoother. Although, what's with the assistant's statement? That right there neither inspires confidence nor is funny.

However, your daughter's reaction to the anesthetic IS funny and very touching.

P.S. Ice packs will help with the pain...or sherbet.

tysgil: she is pretty tough and is already asking for cruncy food.

loon: she is doing great and says there is no pain. I'm not as nervous about Monday. These are some tough little kids

Hi Hammer! Glad to find time to catch up reading your last few posts, loved reading about your weirdness, which I did not find weird at all, just human and your well formed opinions; my thoughts and decisions are half the time emotional and not factual, so I'd annoy the hell out of you half the time! hahaha.

Bless your daughters going through the awful pain of teeth extration at such a young age, but that's a good thing done, they'll thank you later.

Take care.

Thank goodness for drugs!!!

Two at once doesn't sound fun at all. :(

Oh man!! two of them recuperating. So sorry hammer.

I'm sure part of that laugh was to let off some of the fear and stress we feel as parents. It's so good to see them alive and doing okay after a big procedure or injury.

so glad she's okay!!!

awwww, what a little trooper :) Good for her and what a good dad! Is it possible to ship me a shake from Whataburger???? just kidding! They don't have them up here and it's very sad. We don't even have Chick-Fil-A - that's a crime.

Nice to see that it was easy on her. Hope the next one goes as well!

I hear you on the "I'll have what SHE'S having" note. They gave The Little Girl some serum right before both of her surgeries that, within five minutes, had her acting exactly like she'd had the better part of a 12-pack in about an hour and a half. Just all wobbly and laughing and stuff. I got a real ugly look from the asshole nurse dude when I asked for a shot.

Glad things went fine.

My Mom got my sister when she was 6 months old and the damage to her teeth was already done! Her teeth were so bad they needed to be pulled by age 2 and she wore false teeth until her adult teeth came in. Her adult teeth have been very soft and prone to problems too in spite of constant care. The early months are so important.

Holy crap! Five teeth out at once? Those people are masochists over there.

Look up "steve martin" "dentist song" on you tube to see your dentist in action.

I spent years at the hands of a sadistic orthodontist. I hate dentists now. Hope the anesthesia helped cloud their memories of the acts being performed on them. I feel their pain, even though they sound like they're getting some pretty good dope!

The anesthetic they give you is awesome stuff, I'm sorry to hear that your daughter had to get so many teeth pulled.

Oh geez. I'm sitting there stewing over the dog. Your children are stoic monuments. Holy shit. I cannot even imagine. I hate the invasive anything on a kid.
Give them soft cyber hugs from a stranger. yikes

it is a very good thing that the inside of one's mouth is one of the fastest healing parts of our bodies - she'll forget.

i forgot having four root canals at the age of 12 without anesthesia - of course, it took having two natural childbirths and one caesareans to do the trick!

Hammer,
This is the time to ask her about any secretive thing she's been hiding from you. That stuff is like Truth Serum. Have some fun with it. Hee hee.

I am glad she did so well and that you survived also - these things tend to cause the parents way more stress than the kids. Hopefully older daughter will also have a good experience :)

My kids were nowhere near that much fun after their extractions. All they did was sleep! I'm glad to hear it went well though!

Aw, don't feel too bad - that nitrous oxide is some glorious shit. I was 13 and had a baby tooth wedged between a permanent tooth and a molar, and I couldn't get it out. I went to the dentist, and to this day I remember that as one of the best feelings of my entire life. I understand how/why people get addicted to that mess. Funny, I was on nitrous oxide and a local when my wisdom teeth were extracted, and otherwise awake, and I don't have the same recollection of cloud-nine-style bliss. Ah, precious memories. Glad it went well with daughter #1, and good luck for #2 next week. Yes, best to get it over with. You're a good daddy.

OH MY!

I HAD 8 EXTRACTIONS WHICH IS UNHEARD OF, WHEN I WAS 16

THEY GIVE YOU NOVOCAINE, OPIATES, AND NITROUS OXIDE

AT ONE POINT I WAS ON THE CEILING, WATCHING THE PROCEEDURE, I THINK I WAS DEAD FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES OR SOMETHING..... NOBODY NOTICED.

I REMEMBER, BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED HOW BALD THE TOOTH GUY WAS.
