A peek inside Hammer's head.

My wife thinks I'm weird but puts up with me anyway. We agree on most things and the rest we just let slide because they are not that important.
I never demand that people agree with me, but if they insist on arguing over a point, I expect a rational discussion using facts rather than emotion and logical fallacies. Otherwise there is no point in even bringing it up.
.
My politics are pretty easy to understand. :
.
Laws are pointless. People who are predisposed to murder, theft, rape are going to do so no matter what some piece of paper says. I've never known of someone not robbing stores because they all of the sudden found out they could be jailed for it. People should be able to protect their own interests, hire detectives and private security if they need something more.
Same goes for prohibition. There are just as many people doing drugs now than there's ever been despite the billions used to fight the war on drugs. Prohibition just puts the element of crime into the mix and elevates prices to the point where addicts mug little old ladies and burglarize homes for a few bucks to score some heroin, crack, meth or whatever.
It just doesn't make sense. Let people get their cheap drugs at a pharmacy and only punish them if they hurt someone.
In regards to sex and marriage, everyone should be able to do what they want without government interference. Marriage should be a contract drawn up by a lawyer and officiated any way that people choose. It's no ones business where people put their naughty bits as long as it's consensual and the participants are of age.
Taxes: are bullshit. Until WWII hardly anyone paid income tax. Once the government got their hands in our pockets there was no way they were going to stop. Now they squander our money with reckless abandon. Why not? they didn't have to earn it.
Religion: Let people worship the way they want. However, public funds should not be going to support it. A religion is legitimate as long as it doesn't cause harm to it's followers or advocate violence against non believers.
People say I'm going to hell for making jokes about God and religion. I've always wondered..what would an omniscient being care about being worshipped by me. Why would he ever be offended by a joke. Wouldn't God have more important things to do than count how many times little Stevie looks at goat porn on the internet?
The arts: Art should be able to stand on it's own for the sake of it's aesthetic and commercial appeal. Why should my tax money go to endowments for so called artists that think a crucifix in a jar of piss is high art.
Foreign policy: Protect our interests and stay out of alliances and political entanglements.
Immigration: Open up more legal immigration for people with skills, who are willing to work hard and who truly want to become integrated Americans. Do not offer any public services and make it a serious crime to hire illegal immigrants. Deport them as soon as they are discovered.
Crime and punishment: Eliminate victimless and procedural crimes from the books. Make criminals pay total restitution to their victims plus interest using work programs or indentured servitude then set them free. If the criminal is guilty of heinous crimes against society, give them a choice between lethal injection or hanging. Once someone pays their debt to in full, all their rights should be restored.
Politics should not be a career. One term only with just enough pay to cover basic living expenses. No more buying votes with pork barrel programs and redistribution of wealth for political gain.
The Environment: Make conservation profitable. I know we can turn garbage into diesel fuel. Why aren't we doing it on a large scale? ...cough corruption... conpiracy..cough... One single volcanic eruption sends more CO2 into the atmosphere than has ever been sent by mankind. Global warming is here by natural design... learn to love it.
Like I said, it doesn't really matter if you agree with me or not. I'm happy that there are a variety of beliefs and opinions out there. It makes life interesting.

I'd vote for you for President, and let you set these standards as guidelines for everyone in a nanosecond ! Lots of common sense here, Hammer.
"Let people get their cheap drugs at a pharmacy and punish them if they hurt someone." I've been saying this since I was 16.
I agree with you on all those, Hammer-and I'm ready to carry a Hammer for President sign! Of course you wouldn't get elected because you don't suck up to the people in powerful places. Jimmy Carter didn't either (at least I think he didn't) and his election surprised everybody.)
With you on everything, Hammer... I'm especially interested in your laws are pointless comment. I've been wondering how necessary a large standing police force really is. Police don't prevent crime - although that is their stated raison d'etre...
Police forces are a relatively new invention in the course of human civilization, and you can see around the world the potential for abuse... still thinking this one through, myself...
Huh. I'm not sure this was the best post for me to see the first time I visited such hallowed ground. lol.
I have soooo many questions about your platform but as they are your opinion and I'm not going to fill your comment box with my pointless drivel, I'd like to posit one thing, with regard to laws:
Do you think crime is genetic? Before you answer, consider that when a child is being raised (s)he must be taught the difference between right and wrong and as numerous sociological studies have shown people left to their own devices, sans codified laws, will act in a manner more pugilistic than anything civilized. I wonder if this is where the question of "are we good with bad tendancies
or bad with good tendancies" derives. So if you believe theft, rape, murder, etc are genetic
predispositions, what's to be done about it? Genetic profiling? Wholesale extermination for those found to possess this "criminal proclivity?"
You make some very popular points, but as with so many things when dealing with humans, it's seldom so black and white.
Income tax is my greatest pet peeve. I don't mind paying "Caesar", but considering our staggering national debt and the unfairness of the system, the only fair solution is a flat tax. That will never happen because of all the Federal Employees that would lose their jobs crunching numbers.
I see no problem with any of your line Hammer....carry on Sir
I agree with you on most of these, a couple maybe not so much. But that's what's so great about being human and being american, we can.
I wish we had a law like the country my husband was in. They had like maybe one drunk driving incident a year. You know why?? If you got pulled over driving drunk, you got put in jail for 5 years and lose your liscense for life, PERIOD. If you got caught in an accident and you were driving drunk. You got shot on the spot.
They had no drunk driving over there, people were to scared to. Now that's a way to crack down on crime. lol
Hammer,
I nominate you to the role of Emperor! Life would be a much happier place of we just put into practice the commandments you have just invoked!
AMEN HAMMER...A FREAKIN MEN!
Flyinfox_SATX
certainly food for thought here...a few of your points I said a big AMEN to, I must admit..enjoyable read as always.
Have to agree with the majority of those.
A lot of sensible comments - some I would tweak here or there. I think we do need some laws - like the golden rule but rather than adding clause after clause etc. teach people to understand the spirit of the law - not the letter. Thereby making people think out the consequences of their actions and not allowing them a loophole from punishment because it was "legal". Hard to implement though.
Religion: if you haven't read Mark Twain's "Letters to the Earth", do so.
Politics: every elected office is one single six year term, but the terms are staggered so that elections are held every year ... on a weekend in the summer. Elected officials get paid minimum wage, no overtime, no health care, no retirement, but they do get a free lunch if they're working during lunchtime. No entity (person, company, PAC, whatever) can donate money to anyone running for office. No one running for office can advertise on TV or radio.
Crime and punishment: if someone is sentenced to death, they do have an out: if they can get another country to grant them citizenship within 30 days of being sentenced, their US citizenship is revoked and they will be deported to that country. If they attempt to come back to this country at any time after that, they can be killed by anyone without any repercussions.
Annie: thanks, I'm wondering if we should elect someone who "doesn't want power.
scarlet: I bet property crime would be cut in half.
Janet: nope I've never been a suck up and it's kept me out of the running :)
Kevin: I bet we could go privatized on a pay as needed basis. Many companies do this already and I think a town could move to that easily.
effortlessly: I usually don't go after haeavy subjects but I couldn't think of anything funny today. thanks for visiting :)
Socioligy and psycolocgy were my college majors and they kind of took me to these beliefs. Most Sociopathic behavior is brought about by inconsistent parenting. By the time a child reaches elementary school and he hasn't been taught properly, add in socioeconomic factors and you will have a kid headed for prison.
Nope.. things aren't black and white, nothing is. But the way things are being run these days doesn't even start to addrss shades of grey.
kat: a flat tax would be much preferable to the corrupt nonsense we have now.
fyremandoug: thanks :)
Burfica: I heard they do that in sweden. Great plan. It works. If we adopted it the lawyers would be out of business :)
flyinfox: lol I'd have a cap in my ass within 5 minutes ;)
canadian: Thanks. I would think some people would like the sex drugs and religion part but would be scared of the laws, taxes and police part.
bobg: now I'm waiting for someone to call me a big L little l or an anarchist...hell I don't even know waht to call me.
jeannie: People are forever looking for loopholes. that's why our laws are so screwed. but if they could be taught the golden rule it would be so much better.
Now how do we do that?
Jami: I really like how you think!
All I can say is wow really. Interesting points of view. You and Jeff would get along great... LOL..
You know man, you're right here (finger pointing at head). I'm with you on all of that. The longer I live the more libertarian I become. I tell my students that the war on drugs is mostly a war on personal freedom, and that the bastards in both partys who say they believe in freedom only want power so they can resrict freedom. Most of our problems come from the fact that the people in government have lost the ability to tell ther difference between what they CAN do and what they SHOULD do. Now the debt has grown to 9 trillion. Makes me want to cry, seeing all we've built over more than 200 years pissed away to buy the votes and loyalty of the parasitic masses. Lock and load.
I agree with you..
I think a lot more people are Liberal/conservatives than the parties want you to believe..
I'm gonna add the abortion thing though..
I'm prochoice..but anti abortion..
I never want anyone to have an abortion..but i never want any religion to tell a person what they can do with their body...
politics and religion..these two will be the end of humanity..
Tweetey: Yeah, it's taken me all my life to come to this point. I used to believe in the system but any idealism I had about the way things are run has run out.
FHB: you're right. this country has been run by drunk monkeys more often than not for the last 45 years and I'm taling all levels.
cynnie: thanks for visiting :) I agree with you completely on abortion. I hate it but when it becomes illegal again women will just go back to back alley butchers, clothes hangers and throwing their babies in the trash.
There isn't a good solution.
P.S.
I'd be happy to read your blog if you want to throw me an invite :)
wow...you have everything covered. what else is there for you to think about or solve?
I agreed with you about most of your ideas, especially about prison sentences and illegal drugs. It's never made sense to me why a kid selling a dime bag of cocaine can spend more time in prison than a bank robber, our politicians are idiots when it comes to punishing criminals.
ditto.
So, are you running this time around, or what? You got my vote.
Well you got my vote too. Its insane "out there". It all boils down to power and money. I would vote for you in two seconds. Speaking of voting - who do you think will do the least amount of damage in the White House this time around?
You seem to be a classic Libertarian. Would you agree?
I think there's a place for you in my homestate of Montana. That's where I got my "leave me the hell alone" attitude.
merelyme: Not sure if I have it solved but it sure wouldn't hurt :)
brandon: yeah kids going to jail for 15 years for pot when a murderer gets out in 7. Very strange.
Lexcen: I'm getting dittos from north and south :)
Mushy: Damn I'm not sure of what sane person would want that job :)
Barbara: thanks! I'm leaning towards Thompson, maybe Ron Paul if some miracle happens.
Jocylyn: I was never sure if I was classic, little L or big L but you are right. I think we need the people in charge to go home and leave us the hell alone.
Make all the jokes about God and religion that you want. I for one am glad that I do NOT!! Cheers!!
Yours in Christ,
Matt
Not weird, Hammer, just full of common sense. It's lacking most everywhere these days and has been absent from politics for...let's just say a really looooong time.
Pretty goddang sensible stuff, Hammer.
I'm on-board. I see you as a viable Libertarian candidate.
Put your name on the ballot. I'll vote for you.
I'm with you on most of it...but you still are far closer to aligning with me than any of the ones running.
Babe, you pretty much nailed my view of the world spot on.
I think any public or federal organization that attempts to do anything, anything at all, will be corrupted to one degree or another. the amount of corruption all depends on how much money is being handled through transaction. All money that gets moved around can be manipulated and will be manipulated to one degree or another.
Besides that, I pretty much agree with you except on religion of course. I also think our impact on the environment is more than just natural design.
matt-man: I'm dodging the lightning!
loon: I understand David Crocket was one of the first to shoot down the idea of voting money for things not directed by the constitution. Thats what I beleive as well.
LBB: Maybe I can run for dog catcher :)
katherine: I'm really surprised..I was expecting hate mail and getting burned in effigy :)
terri: I guess that would be an option. I could make hand farts for the press corps ;)
allie: that was one thing I knew about you from your previous posts :)
Paul: you are so right about money changing hands being too tempting for public employees.I'd like to hear more about your thoughts on religion. I was only talking about global warming. Toxic waste dumping, sulphur emissions causing acid rain and other preventable damage needs to stop.
I agree with everything except using logic and facts. I far prefer emotional blackmail and irrational fallacies.
Cheers
maddy: that stuff trumps me every time! ;)
You thoughts on all these issues make sense to me....the reason they're not reality most likely is that there's no money to be made and no limelight for the asshole politians to stand in.
Peace
You sir are a different kind of person..a logical one. Thank you. I was beginning to believe that I was a minority of one in my beliefs...
I think I love you.. Seriously.. I think you just said everything I believe whole-heartedly :)
Odat: That's what it usually boils down to isn't it.
guyk: Thanks Guy, I was getting disheartened myself there for a while. seems like more and more people are sick of the status quo.
Chalice: Thanks! I appreciate you stopping by.
Have you ever considered doing a national radio show?
Seriously, I think you would have a HUGE audience.
I'll argue that hard drugs do have affects on people around those doing them. I think that large penalties for drugs like heroin and cocaine would help society.
As far as taxes go, they are needed because we can't trust the masses to fend for themselves. 45% of Americans believe in a young earth with no evolution....they can't be trusted to live a life without help of the government, especially as they get older.
One more thing. I do think that laws are deterrents to many people. Take drunk driving laws for example. I know the laws don't make all drunk drivers stop themselves from getting behind a wheel, but the laws deter many.
And I don't think that many murderers and rapists are predisposed to do so.
That implies it is nature. But it is mostly nurture that creates a criminal, and most of us who grow up ingrained with laws against theft, murder and rape, are less likely to commit these than if the laws didn't exist.
I was nodding all the way through this post, in total agreement.
jerry: that sounds like a fun idea. I'll have to look into the blog and net radio stuff. It would be fun to interview all you guys.
beaj: the penalties don't seem to be helping we have 2 milion in jail and a bunch of people living in a crime/drug culture despite all the mandatory minimum sentences. as for the 45% who can't be trusted to fend for themselves it's probably 10% that wouldn't make it and I say let em sink or swim because it's immoral to take my tax money with threat of force to support the ignorant and shiftless. I'm not sure if we are ingrained with laws but instead a human morality that is independent of governemnt and religion. Sorry for taking so long to reply.
phlegmy: From reading some of your posts I figured we would be on the same page.
I didn't spend the time reading the previous 45 comments, but I'm sure what I'm about to write has been written already.
I can't disagree with anything you wrote and in fact completely agree with all of it.
I'd vote for you for any political office with that as your platform.
However, that all makes too much logical sense for the masses to actually understand.
Everyone's been brainwashed for too long by politicians and the mainstream media and their spiritual leaders to "get" what you are saying.
dan o: I somtimes comment on things with random people and my thoughts are very scary to some people. They cannot fathom living without a giant thumb pressed against them.
I don't know if you will ever see this since it is such an old blog but i really enjoyed reading this. I wrote a similar blog although mine certainly would not be worthy of carrying your shoes.
Thank you Boo boo I'll come by and check out your site.
