Monday's musings

I used to follow baseball somewhat. My uncle Mark got me interested in the game, took me to see the Royals each summer and relayed some of his vast knowledge of players, stats and whatnot. I really started to lose interest after the bullshit strike in 94. I felt betrayed. I was a total non sports person who had grown to admire a sport and it's players, then they go shitting on the fans that made it possible for them to play ball for a living.

Now with all the steroid freaks, quarter billion dollar contracts and other such nonsense, baseball has become a dirty whore not deserving of my attention. I was surprised however, that the headlines announced the winner of the world series. I had no idea what teams were playing or even that the series was going on. Oh well...

I went to a pumpkin patch thing with the family in Medina Texas yesterday. It was my family, my nephews family and my in laws. There was a petting zoo, hay ride, roasted corn, a maze, crafts and such. I really wasn't enthused about going at first, but the weather was nice so I bit the bullet and made the best of it. The kids had fun and that's the main thing.

I'm finding myself more and more disgusted with people and their problems. I wish we could go back to the good old days where everyone kept their dirty laundry tucked away and didn't air it out in public. It's stressful and embarassing to listen to. I never liked soap operas, Jerry Springer or any of that nonsense and I sure as hell don't want to participate in that shit in real life.

The older I get, the more jaded and disillusioned I become. This world is driven by money sex and power. Whenever there is an imbalance of any of these three items, things tend to go into the shitter.

People tend to only act nice when they think they can get something out of you. I have met more liars, crooks, and con artists working in professional roles that I ever have out in the streets.

Don't get me wrong, there are some nice, hard working, honest people out there, but it seems they don't make it in sales, customer service or government bureaucracies.

Some words of advice:

Never tell anyone any more than they have to know.

When faced with a person in power who wants something ridiculous, you can agree and then usually do whatever you want. They just wanted to be placated.

It's better to fight battles on your own terms.

Before speaking, first say the words out loud in your head and imagine the reaction of your audience. I can't tell you how many times I've kept my foot out of my mouth that way.

This post might be a little heavy for a Monday. so I'll end it with these.

My hubby still watches sports, each season hoping that his teams will do something other than disappoint their fans but inevitably it happens anyway and then alot of players are rewarded with better contracts and more money.
I tell wayyy toooo many people wayyy toooo many things at times, but that's just my personality. Isn't this whole blog thing just for that... letting off steam, hanging out for a few minutes with people you'de not ever necessarily want to know in 'real' life, working out some of our own issues, etc.
I definitely don't like Springer type t.v. shows and try to not have too much drama going on around me personally, but I guess it doesn't bother me to read others 'dirty laundry' occasionally.

Funny videos .... good way to start Monday, with a laugh, we're all gonna need it at some point. Have a good week!

I'm totally with you on the baseball strike thing. That was the last time I watched that sport, too. I was 13.

I didn't know you lived close enough to go to the Medina pumpkin patch! I went there weekend before last. The Little Girl had a blast, as did the other couple's two kiddies.

I'll have to check the videos later. Bosses are starting to clamor a bit...

Drop me a line next time you're gonna be close enough for a cold one. Medina's a short drive from me.

I bet you've about had it with my blog lately, seems like all I do lately is whine about personal shit.

I love the trunk monkey commercials, I wish they'd bring them back.

Happy Monday!

The outhouse prank is priceless!

I have come to a lot of the same conclusions about the state of the world. I only wish I could keep my mouth shut. But it's a big one.

The only baseball I watched this year was the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning last night. That's about all I can take anymore.

Love the vid clips!

Argh!!! People and their probs. I just asked my bf "Do you ever just want to interrupt people in the middle of spilling their guts to tell them that you just don't give a fuck?" What happened to pride? And secrecy? And all that good stuff? *shaking head*

Saying that just made me feel like my grandfather. Hmph.

Guess we're all a little heavy this Monday.

I'm with Bobg, Baseball?

Another bit of wisdom I learned is that everyone speaks passable english with a gun barrel aimed at them

and something I heard from Barista
"If you ever want to witness a person’s work ethic, give them a job that doesn’t pay anything, such as volunteer work, and you’ll find out quickly the character of the individual."

Why so blue, Hammer?

Your family and you are safe, you've recovered from the spider bite, your BP is in the good zone, you all had fun on the weekend, your Father is mending well, and the rains have stopped (for the present)...not so bad at all, my friend.

Chin up, eh.

I'm with ya Hammer, the world is full of shit! People never cease to disappoint me. Problem now is I come to expect the disappointment, so it's not really disappointment anymore. Right? Sucks. Anyway, focusing on the creative stuff and ignoring the serious crap helps take you away from the depressing part of life; people. More fat Hillary pics please!

You're right about people in power being more corrupt than street folks. I learned a while back not to trust people in business suits looking all nicey-nice. That's why I wear jeans, to keep it real.

I echo your feeling on baseball and sports in general. A man playing a child's game and people paying to watch spoiled crybabies who are more doped up than Keith Richards.

Beautifully put.

When I first earned my engineering degree and started working in the engineering world, I was totally unprepared for dealing with engineering managers. They are just as you describe.

I lived on Maalox, and finally started noticing all the best engineers around me worked hard but never got flustered. I asked them how that was, and they pretty much told me what you have right here.

Management wants to hear you say what they want to hear, it's only later when their ridiculous schedules are in the crapper that they come back and seriously want to know why. That's the ONLY time they truly listen to the truth of our difficulties.

I saw a bumper sticker last year that I'll never forget:

Losing My Faith In Humanity, One Person At A Time

wouldn't be great if everyone just respected their own privacy...AND mine! smile.

I'm getting to the age in my life where I am eliminating people I do not like...and surrounding myself with those I do.

(its easier when the kids are older...and more independent)

You worry me man, but you're right about a lot of people. You've got to pick and chose who you open yourself up to and watch everyone else. Too many assholes out there. I spent decades building a defensive wall to protect myself from the stupid shit that I regularly had to deal with as a kid, and now I'm finding that the same wall kept me from having a lot of fun and seeing a lot of folks who were ok. I wasted a hell of a lot of time keeping to myself, and now those old instincts are hard to overcome, but I'm trying to let myself out of the box. Take care man.

Oh, and yea, I totally ignored the series. I prefer highschool games. The kids are still doin' it for the love.
