Lightning strikes

With all the inclement weather I lost my computer to a lightning strike.

I've got a fancy isobar surge protector but I guess it came through somehow.

Anyways, I'll be rebuilding the damn thing and should be back in a day or so as long as my hard drive isn't fried too.

See you then.

Do take care, Hammer, with all the lightning and rain that's occurring in your part of the world.

Will miss your posts, of course, but hope you all take care.

P.S. The little box asking if one wants to proceed is missing. Just wanted to let you know.

At least you can still post, so I guess the computer isn't a total loss. I thought a surge protector would protect my computer, but I'll remember to unplug my computer next time we have a t-storm, I don't want to take any chances. Hope you get back up and running at 100% soon!

I have the fancy surge protector plugged into another fancy surge protector and the electric company claims that I have another one they installed at the pole. So far all that is happened is my computer goes off and then back on..losing everything I was doing but no permanent damage. But if I ever get a direct hit I know it will fry. But then that is why I left the tall pines..they act kinda like a lightning rod...

I'm really sorry about your computer. That stinks. I once lost a computer because a frog had crawled into it.

Could you send some of that rain our way? We're in the midst of an ugly drought.

that sucks. i don't know what would be worse, lightning or getting a worm/virus on your computer. the lightning strike seems so random that it can hit you even when you've taken reasonable steps to protect yourself.

i try to unplug my laptop if a storm heads my way, but i might not always be home when the storms roll in. it's a dilemma.

hmmm...I always say I wish we would get more lightening and thunder here.....maybe not.

What you need to do is move away from where it is and go someplace where it never rains or storms.... like west TX.

Oh.... wait

hahah

I hope you get it fixed soon.

Wow, that's scary. We don't get much lightning here really. I have a very small surge plug-thing, but I think I may need to do a back-up - been thinking of it for a while.

Hope you're not 'away' for long. Take care =)

Hey- just a suggestion- if the hard drive is fried--try some Viagra----that might get it back up!

If not- (See Alice!)

I know, I know--my bad. Hangs head in shame.

I hope I will be able to get a "new" one in the near future.

We never get lightning here, don't know why. I figure my computer will die from old age if I don't upgrade parts of it soon.

You build computers, I figured you would have a backup really on the side.

I have a spare so it's not the end of the world if this one does die. Take care.

When you finally get back online, you'll be relieved to know that it won't ever happen again - lightning never strikes twice in the same place.

Of all the damn luck!

Sorry man...I feel for ya.

I know you don't have a dial-up system...do ya? I've been told that a phone line is the easiest way for lightning to get into your home or computer.
