Lightning strikes
With all the inclement weather I lost my computer to a lightning strike.
I've got a fancy isobar surge protector but I guess it came through somehow.
Anyways, I'll be rebuilding the damn thing and should be back in a day or so as long as my hard drive isn't fried too.
See you then.

Do take care, Hammer, with all the lightning and rain that's occurring in your part of the world.
Will miss your posts, of course, but hope you all take care.

P.S. The little box asking if one wants to proceed is missing. Just wanted to let you know.
At least you can still post, so I guess the computer isn't a total loss. I thought a surge protector would protect my computer, but I'll remember to unplug my computer next time we have a t-storm, I don't want to take any chances. Hope you get back up and running at 100% soon!
I have the fancy surge protector plugged into another fancy surge protector and the electric company claims that I have another one they installed at the pole. So far all that is happened is my computer goes off and then back on..losing everything I was doing but no permanent damage. But if I ever get a direct hit I know it will fry. But then that is why I left the tall pines..they act kinda like a lightning rod...
I'm really sorry about your computer. That stinks. I once lost a computer because a frog had crawled into it.
Could you send some of that rain our way? We're in the midst of an ugly drought.
that sucks. i don't know what would be worse, lightning or getting a worm/virus on your computer. the lightning strike seems so random that it can hit you even when you've taken reasonable steps to protect yourself.
i try to unplug my laptop if a storm heads my way, but i might not always be home when the storms roll in. it's a dilemma.
hmmm...I always say I wish we would get more lightening and thunder here.....maybe not.
What you need to do is move away from where it is and go someplace where it never rains or storms.... like west TX.
Oh.... wait
hahah
I hope you get it fixed soon.
G'Luck Dude- I'm back home and A-OK. Get the Puter back up soon!
John
damn...good luck getting back up.
when it rains- it pours, huh? Good luck!
so I guess this big as a briefcase surge protector I have isn't a sure thing huh???
We will be here waiting, stalking heheheheh
ahhhhh, your house, where the wind doesn't blow - it sucks!
sorry hammer...

Wow, that's scary. We don't get much lightning here really. I have a very small surge plug-thing, but I think I may need to do a back-up - been thinking of it for a while.
Hope you're not 'away' for long. Take care =)
Hey- just a suggestion- if the hard drive is fried--try some Viagra----that might get it back up!
If not- (See Alice!)
I know, I know--my bad. Hangs head in shame.
J
Sure hope you fix it soon.
Wouldn't want a natural disaster to disturb my need for entertainment :-)
I love your blog, I check it daily.
BUMMER!
I always turn my PC off in a storm, taking no chances with my electronic friend:)
Well qwrap...
That SUCKS!
We lost our modem to a lightning strike once. I had to live without internet for a week. *gasp*
Good Sunday morning the 29th to you Hammer !
Just came by to say hello and see what was new with you !
Today is "thank-you's" on my blog, and you are mentioned with a link !
*cyber hugs and smiles*

So, we are in the same situation. Mine exploded too. Jut now I'm borrowing a friends PC while visiting.
I hope I will be able to get a "new" one in the near future.
That can happen? Really? I had no idea, how odd.
Sorry about your computer. I hope you are able to rebuild it quickly.
You know the word "FU(K"? It was made for occasions just like this one.
Bad luck man... keep it real.
Geez Hammer that sucks.
We never get lightning here, don't know why. I figure my computer will die from old age if I don't upgrade parts of it soon.
You build computers, I figured you would have a backup really on the side.
I have a spare so it's not the end of the world if this one does die. Take care.
Good thing you weren't out playing golf...
Hammer,
That sucks! Glad to hear that you are Ok though...some of those lightning strikes are deadly.

Good luck, Hammer. I would be lost if this happened.
Check and see what type of warranty you surge protector had. Many come with a $$$ coverage for equiptment.
Good luck....
sorry Hammer, hope the computer springs back fast.....
oh god, what a pain in the arse! I hope all is fixed soon :)
I had the same thing happen this weekend, there was some thunder and then I was cut off :-(
When you finally get back online, you'll be relieved to know that it won't ever happen again - lightning never strikes twice in the same place.
Hammer that sucks! I'll be looking forward to your return.
yup, we lost the whole thing [including hard drive] about 4 months ago- huge headache - I know what you're going through [I think]
Cheers
Sucks! I do love watching lightning, but not when it gets that close! Glad you and the family are oka though! The computer is replacable!
Of all the damn luck!
Sorry man...I feel for ya.
I know you don't have a dial-up system...do ya? I've been told that a phone line is the easiest way for lightning to get into your home or computer.
That totally sucks Hammer. Hope you didn't lose anything important.
Oh wow...I didn't really think that could happen....I mean I did think it, but I never turn my off during the storm.....I will now!
Good Luck and hurry back!
Peace
G'day Hammer,
Jeeprs-creepers - the pic of that PC looks like it was rendered by Andy Warhol!
Is that fair dinkum what your computer looked like?!!! Hope the insurance company backed you up on the claim ....
Cheers
David
