Some of my drink recipes

When I make drinks I try to use ingredients and techniques that are easy for the occasional or at home mixologist. I don't keep a large amount of different liquors in my pantry. I usually decide on one or two types of drinks I'll be serving and keep it simple. Otherwise, I'll be at my own party making drinks all night instead of enjoying the company of my guests.

One trick I use is to take a recently emptied fruit juice bottle with a wide mouth and screw on lid and mix a batch of drinks in that and take it with me to the beach, camping or to the pool. It sure beats lugging around all the different ingredients and glass bottles of liquor. I use the ocean spray cranberry bottles for the most part. I take the label off and mark the bottle with a permanent marker so that some unsuspecting non drinker doesn't get a surprise. I keep the ice seperate to keep the drinks from getting watered down.
..................................................................
White Russian

1 oz Kaluaha
2 oz high quality unflavored Vodka
3oz milk or half and half
Pour over crushed ice and stir well.
This drink is very reminicent of chocolate milk and it will sneak up on you.. so be careful

There is a version of this called a "Colorado bulldog" where you just add a splash of Coke to the glass and the drink takes on a whole new dimension.
................................................................
"Fuzzy navel":

2 oz peach schnops
3 oz orange juice
Pour over ice cubes in a tall glass

This is great for summer and is inoffensive to people not accustomed to mixed drinks.

Here is one of my favorites:

"Fuck the Royal Navy"

1 oz Crown Royal
2 oz Chamapgne
1 oz pineapple juce
Mix in a shaker with crushed Ice and strain into a cocktail glass
Squeeze a lime over the top.

Enjoy!

Your 'Colorado Bulldog' is called a Paralyzer around here.
If you use Whiskey instead of Vodka, thats called a Dirty Mother( I like that).

Oh, man... I nearly retched when Lebowski made that "Caucasian" with the powdered non-dairy creamer!

MMMMm. Love those White Russians! Black Russians aren't bad either though. But as to sneaky drinks, in my experience, a Brandy Alexander is the sneakiest of 'em all. Tastes like a good milkshake but not a thick one and after a few, like maybe 10 or so, they render your knees totally useless. But so good in the getting there!

My favorite is a "wee dram".

Rocks glass.
Carefully pour in four fingers of Cuervo Black.

Sit back and graciously sip.

Plus putting the mixed drink in a jug makes you look less like a hard-core drinker. It lets you blend in.

Another classic - Rum Runners

Dark Rum
Light Rum
Blackberry Brandy
OJ

Either blend it with ice (like a frozen margarita) or shake it and strain.

I keep liquor in my stash, but usually I stick to beer. I figure Scotch, Rum and such may come in handy for trading one day.

My personal favorite is the Colorado Bulldog. It reminds me of a chocolate soda at the old soda fountains...with a kick to it of course.

As one who happens to have a lot of time on his hands, I appreciate the receipes. Most of those will go great with a good cigar...

I like to keep it simple too. A twelve-pack or so of beer in the fridge.
Let everyone else bring their own.

Light beer is my main drink of choice. Mixed drinks get me drunk quickly, especially when drinking something like a white russian. Yum!

I just remembered that my dad has about 5 bottles of champagne in his fridge from new years. We can make mimosas at blownstar.

I'm gonna have to try the "fuck the royal navy" one day.

I like your liquor/mixed drink style - it's similar to mine. If it has more than four ingredients in it, forget it, it's become a little baby's game. Mojito is the only drink that breaks that rule that I'll have, as long as it's with real mint leaves, and not powdered mint. For me, rum & coke, gimlet, the basic gin martini, screwdriver, 7 & 7. I'll blend 7Up and gin 2:1 over ice, and I don't know if that drink even has a name. That was my signature Army barracks drink. No it's not a gin & tonic, that has a totally different character.

Tequila I prefer "neat" - I treat it like people treat a sipping whiskey. I don't care for the salt-shot-lime procedure, with beer chaser. Then again, I'm not a 19 year old frat boy getting rotgut in the plastic bottle, and like my liquor premium, so I don't have to bury its personality.

I hate licorice, but I like Ouzo, chilled.

If it has milk I'm not mixing-in alcohol - milk is for Cheerios.
Otherwise, limeade and Appleton's is a quick two-part sundowner.

Deja Vu Time - The VS-17

"Bag, Water, Sterilizing" with NSN 4610-00-268-9890. The Lyster Bag was a component of Field Feeding Equipment, such as the Mobile Kitchen Trailer, with one or two Lister Bags supplied according to the unit size of the kitchen, issued approximately one per 100 persons. The newer Containerized Kitchen does not include the Lister Bag.

The 36 gallon capacity Lyster Bag was approximately 36 inches tall by 22 inches in diameter. The bag included a rope for hanging, a lid/cover, and had six water faucets around the base. In use, it was hung from an improvised tripod of tent poles or locally cut material, hung away from anything that could cause potential contamination, such as a tree. A trained technician would fill the bag, then put chlorine ampoules into the water to sterilize it. After testing the water for potability, it was available for filling canteens, cooking, or any purpose.

To kill the vile taste of chemically sterilized water add to one Lister Bag 2 gallons of "sickbay alchohol" (ethanol USP Pharmco 190 proof), one No. 10 can of GI orange drink beverage powder (Tang), one 4-oz. bottle vanilla extract. Comes out sickly orange color matches a faded VS-17 signal panel, hence the name. Makes enough for a rifle company can get a half canteen cup taste, for morale, but not enough booze to get a buzz, dammit. See:

The Missus was awfully fond of the Colorado Bulldog back in the day.

Try a Pomegranate Pile Driver: Van Gogh Pomegranate vodka, prune juice, dash of lemon juice. Garnish with a prune. It'll get you loaded and unloaded at the same time!

you can only make this drink between thanksgiving and christmas:

in a blender:

two shots tequila gold
one cup eggnog
enough ice to make it slushy

puree for a minute or so

drink it with thick straws like you get with a milkshake - disclaimer - very fattening!
