Obama apointee...bail out the media and license them.

Influential Los Angeles Times columnist Rosa Brooks has hung up her journalistic hat and joined the Obama administration, but not before penning a public proposal calling for some radical ideas to help bail out the failing news industry.
Why should we bail anyone out with our tax dollars? The Newspapers have spoon fed us their leftist slanted garbage for the last 50 years and people are sick and tired of it. Newspapers are dead..they did it to themselves and now with the internet..who the hell needs em?
Brooks, who has taken up a post as an adviser at the Pentagon, advocated upping "direct government support for public media" and creating licenses to govern news operations.
What the fuck? Why in the fuck would someone need a license to report the news? Ahh I get it....they are trying to kill political blogs. The voices of dissent are scaring the puppet masters.
"Years of foolish policies have left us with a choice: We can bail out journalism, using tax dollars and granting licenses in ways that encourage robust and independent reporting and commentary, or we can watch, wringing our hands, as more and more top journalists are laid off," she wrote in her parting column on April 9.
How can a license encourage robust reporting? Just the opposite you filthy Stalinist bitch! I'm not wringing my hands at all over this! Fire all of those worthless pieces of shit. This past election has shown that there is not an independent thought in that clogged enema bag the media collectively uses for a brain.
Brooks said this would help rescue the industry from a "death spiral" and left the government unaccountable to the journalists who must keep it honest. "[I] can't imagine anything more dangerous than a society in which the news industry has more or less collapsed," she wrote.
Keep em honest? That's the pot calling the kettle black. Miss Brooks, what you mean to say is that Obama administration will determine what is the truth and what is not fit to report. What happens to someone who writes without a license? Do they go to a FEMA camp or the salt mines?
But critics say her proposal would spell an end to the independent media and make journalists reliant lapdogs.
No shit Sherlock ..ya think?
An independent news media is absolutely essential to the success of a democracy," said L. Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog group. Bozell said licensing journalists would violate American traditions and was a form of "intellectual prostitution."
"Since when did our Founding Fathers envision that ... you could exercise your right to freedom of speech provided you had a license from the federal government? This is the kind of stuff you have revolutions about,"
Finally a voice of reason! Intellectual protitution is pretty much what we have now with a few notable exceptions.
Brooks worried in her column that the death of newspapers would spell an end to investigative journalism and leave the country with only "yapping heads" on television and "nothing in our newspapers but ads, entertainment features and crossword puzzles."
I guess the yapping heads are the folks on Fox News..they happen to have some of the highest ratings in the industry and are the only voice of dissent as far as I can tell. Chew on that Brooks.

We can not bail out every company. To be honest not many people buy newspapers or magazines because the internet is free.

People should have been this pissed a long time ago.
The real purpose of a "journalism license" would be to try and shut down independent, non-MSM sources of news and commentary.
Blogs would be first. Which would be funny, because it would put lap-dog Google at odds with its masters.
P.S. Blogger won't accept the strikeout code? WTF?
Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
OR OF THE PRESS!!!
What the fuck is goiing on and why the fuck are we not doing more about this???
How Bizzare
Someone has seriously lost the plot
Our little local newspaper publishes national news from the Associated Press -obviously they can't afford to have a correspondent in Washington or in other locations around the world. But their local reporting staff covers the various meetings around the county -township supervisor meetings, etc. and also lists police reports, which are the biggest joke of all. Half of the police services around don't even submit reports and when they do, there are no names listed in them -just something to the effect that a person at such and such a location was mugged or something similar to that. Who can possibly call that reporting? And, the publishing of obituaries -long a mainstay in any newspaper -is a money grubber thing now, which the family being charged $150 and up for a simple obituary. If the papers want to survive, the need to publish THE NEWS -accurately, no bias on either side of the fence. Just the facts!
Anybody with a functioning brain and an opinion is being targeted by Obama's Gestapo. This sucks. I hated the book "1984", and now it looks as if we're going to be living it for real.
Fear Not People! {Please Read the Following with your best Soviet Accent in mind}It is not so bad when government takes over everything. Let us just make sure that we are all part of the government!
Flyinfox sits dripping with sarcasm!
There was a time before newspapers - when town criers gave the important news - newspapers allowed more people to know more - the internet has exponentially multiplied the voices that can be heard. Newspapers in a couple years will be "quaint". I suppose we do need people to let us know what's going on. I'm just not sure how they should be paid to investigate. It's not like we can trust anything anyone says.
Bail out the newspapers...come on. Who reads newspapers any more? The ones that are still printed end up cluttering up the recycling bins because by the time they get to print, the news is already outdated.
The newspapers are going the way of the dinosaurs and the people still reading them are usually about the same age as one.
We need dynamic forms of media that can be updated with the stroke of the delete key...something that scares the crap out of them.
The Obama administration has pissed off quite a bit of the news media outlets by shutting them out. This is the only way they can ensure that they don't have to worry about what gets reported on them. He knows that so many news agencies have a bone to pick and soon they are going to start revolting against HIS administration too. This is starting to sound more and more like communist China every day. God Help us all. How many more years until the next election?
Yah know, the O administration comes up with really dumb, radical ideas. I think that this is a test or something to make sure that the sane people are watching. This idea is another flop.
But it maybe a ploy to get another department of ______________ (fill in non-used word here).
Yesterday and the Day before, I heard thousands of people shouting "Give me MORE Government! Take ALL of my paycheck in taxes!" Or was this what the Obama heard (if they were listening) in stead of the what was really said.
The newspapers must accept that the cyber world is here and they must adjust and innovate.
ok then if everyone gets a bailout where's mine? I make too much for wellfare but I think I fit a bailout.
fuckers
You are right on the mark again Hammer.
I remember newspapers. Dailies used to have an a.m. and p.m. editions in medium and larger cities. If you dropped the Sunday edition on your foot, you'd limp the rest of the day. There were reporters who reported the goings-on. There were columnists who did exactly what bloggers do now. Wire stories were there, but filled a page. The funnies had boxes big enough to actually read the bubbles without a magnifying glass. The sports page was like a local edition of Sports Illustrated. Papers now are like 90% filler hot dogs, where they were once like Vienna all-beef hot dogs. Go to the library if they have a newspaper "morgue," and get a microfische of one from like 1950 or 1970, look at today's, and go "uh huh - I get it." Radio, and later, TV, have been giving instant news since the 1920's.
I see no reason why papers are dying. There will always be a need for a good purely local paper. Leave national news for Fox and CNN. Don't even subscribe to a news wire; save the money.
There was no good reason why the NYC and PRR railroads went bankrupt. They had the most prosperous freight runs in the nation. NS and CSX now run those lines very well. The papers are killing themselves. Oh, well, fold away, and I'll start a small town paper, hire a photographer and a couple of reporters, be my own columnist, and the news-starved masses can come to me. I won't put my local news on the web. Want to know what the city council did last night or how your kid's school did in basketball? Buy the damn paper.
This country is in a world of SHIT. Boys and Girls,we are getting ready to see what a socialist regime, with arrogant, humorless leadership, which dose'nt take kindly to criticism,is all about.Get ready for it to hit the fan.
I do enjoy that sudoku puzzle, but not enough to buy the newspaper for it.
USA_Admiral is right, Hammer!
