Goings on
I'm heading to the beach as soon as school lets out. I've been nominated to do all the cooking and barbecuing at the condo. No big deal. I'm fast and efficient.
We are going with my nephew, his wife and kids and his in laws. I'm pretty excited about going because my nephew's wife's family sort of adopted us. My nephew was pretty much disowned for who he married, so I guess me and the wife are all he has as far as blood relatives that give a shit about him and his kids. We fill in that family gap I suppose.
We've been taking my oldest daughter to a child psychologist to get her tested for learning disabilities. I was wary at first but we needed to get her officially protected at school. After a shitload of tests, they figure a brain injury damaged her short term memory. As a baby she was being watched by an 8 year old cousin while her biological mom popped pills. She fell from a balcony and sustained a busted spleen and a concussion. Lucky for us, this is what got her into the system and away from her fucked up biological family.
So now she's got official paperwork that guarantees accommodations. We'll see if the school still tries to fuck around next year.
I joined netflix and have been watching all the old movies I liked as a kid with my son. I always made a habit of never watching a movie twice so now 25 years later I can enjoy them all over again. We are almost through the Schwarzeneggers, and are working on the Rambos and Monty Pythons.
Tonight we watched Flash Gordon. Not as cool as I remember at 11 years old but still entertaining in a cartoonish way.

Glad you are going on a much needed trip, with good people! Also I'm glad you have your daughter's issues on paper, schools play games with kids who need extra help. Have a great time and send some of that great food my way;)!
man, the fact that we have to protect our children at school is a true but sad commentary on our education system. good luck.
flash, ah-awe.... i remember it being pretty awesome too.
I hope that school gets what it deserves. That's no way to treat a child
Love the beach. I'm glad they've got a handle on your daughter. While labels aren't always good, in this case it can be a help. My oldest was borderline dyslexic. But because the schoolboard did not recognize him (he missed the label by one point) as such, the teachers called him lazy and refused to listen to me. Thank God for computers though - typing was always so much easier for him than writing by hand.
Good luck to your daughter. Hope you and the family have a good time.
Enjoy the beach Hammer!
We went through that same process for our son (anxiety disorder), what a pain but well worth it. Your daughter is very lucky to have you as a Dad.
Hammer that is sad about your daughter but I am glad to hear you love her. People like that dont deserve kids and I am glad to hear she was taken away from people like that. Now she has the love she needs to succeed in life.
Yes enjoy the beach its cool here today again and raining.
The beach sounds awesome, and from what I've seen on your blog about your cooking, I can understand why you are the designated chef.
Glad to hear your daughter has some official backing to make the school behave like they should have been doing all along.
Thank God your daughter is in YOUR care.
Have fun at the beee-ach.
Cowabunga Dude! Surfs up! How was your day on the beach?
I am glad you are well and are really sorting out the school with your daughter - I always know when you are really mad as you swear a lot...
I think Freddy is lisp-singing in that video. Hahahahahah. I'm going to hell.
I LOVE Flash Gordon! But then I'll watch anything with Timothy Dalton in it. ;)
Did the shrink have any suggestions for your daughter's IEP?
I'm glad you got some medical paperwork to get you some back up with the dam schools.
the beach sounds wonderful!!! Have tons of fun!!!
The new flash gordon series was worse than the movie though.
Hey, I saw your avatar pop up in a comment box somewhere and thought, "I need to go by and see the Hammer."
What a screwed up way for your daughter to have to find a family that loves her, but thank god she did. Seems the schools won't do much of anything until they have a peice of paper in front of them telling them they have to. Good luck with that next year.
Monty Pyton's "Holy Grail"...seen it about a million times now. Just as funny each time though.
Way cool buddy!
What a treat it would have been to watch Monty Python with my dad. He's still funny as hell and I truly get every bit of my sense of humor from him!
You are creating great memories!
I smoked so much pot in the early 70's that ALL those movies seem like first runs to me LOL! ni ni!
Come back and I will taunt you a second time!

I was a punk ass teenager when Flash Gordon (the most recent version) came out in theaters. I thought it was a "great" movie. It's pretty silly, but still entertaining to watch.
I'm glad that you're getting some ammo to take to the asshats at the school. Schools are typically staffed by inflexible idiots (no offense toward those that are not idiots is intended). Fortunately, you already know this.
I wish Netflix worked here in Okinawa (in a timely enough manner to be worthwhile). I think I just need to send my 20 bucks a month to someone that can actually USE Netflix, and have them burn copies of stuff...crap...did I say that out loud?
Wishing you and your family a great trip!
Wishing you and your family a great trip!
have fun at the beach! Time with the family like that is super-cool and very important.
xxoo
I did that movie thing recently with my daughter! We watched The Beastmaster from the 80's. I LOVED that move. The Bug thought it was horrible and was glad when it was over.
I just don't get it.
But she liked ET.
you don't watch movies twice?
curious.
smile.
Hopefully your daughter will get what she needs. Thank God for caring people like you.
Enjoy the beach and stick your toes in the sand for me.
Man, that Freddie sure had a big mouth and huge teeth! Don't figure out how he made it in the gay world!
It's cool that you and your nephew's family have each other. Have fun at the beach!
Finally you have something in place for your daughter and her education. I'm sure you and your family are giving her all the love and support possible!
We still pop in M.P. and the Holy Grail sometimes and the Arnold flicks coming to mind right now that I liked are Total Recall and the first Predator.
That Flash Gordon vid takes me back!!
Glad you've sorted out your daughter. Mine has short term memory problems and school is less than accomodating.
Hope you have a great holiday.
Very glad you're getting some nice R&R, Hammer, even if you're the cook and bottle washer. Also very happy that you have protection (identification) for your daughter (I'm dyslexic, but that's nothing compared to what you're dealing with, I bet). The M Python thing sounds hilarious! Thank heavens you and your family rescued that poor little girl.
I wish your daughter all the best for the rest of her life.
