Pipes

One of the things I inherited from my Grandmother's passing was a box of pipes that had belonged to my Grandfather. From what I remember, he always had a pipe at hand. Curiously, he kept a pipe and a small case containing of tobacco in his back pocket at all times.

He passed away nearly 20 years ago but most of his personal effects were never touched.

Per request by Alandp, here is a pic of the pipes and the box he kept them in.

That's an interesting collection. I like the funky little bag w/ gold trim. I wonder if that's where he kept the tobacco.

I had a great uncle who smoked a pipe. Always thought that type of tobacco smell cool.

Cigars and cigarettes make me want to gag, but for some reason the pipe is different.

Nice collection.

WOW!! I have a bit of a 'thing' for pipes - never collected them or anything, just love the look of them. How coooooooooool - what about that one with it's own carved stand? Awesome.

Very nice!

You know, every real man should smell faintly of fine tobacco and good brandy.

Nice pipes. I used to smoke tobacco but I never got into smoking from a pipe. But the few times I tried it, it was really nice. I only use a glass pipe now and I only fill it with green stuff.

Pipes are a collectible item like most other objects. I last time I saw somebody smoking a pipe was in 1966 and it was a school teacher. Times have changed haven't they?

Those sense memories stay so deep in us. I can smell something--like pipe smoke--and be taken back.

Gorgeous collection.

Oh, and your latest comment on my blog is KILLING me.

Nice. They all look they're still in very good condition. I hardly ever see used pipes that look that clean. Any brand names on them?

My dad used to smoke pipes. One day when I was like 6 or 7 I deceided to help him out and clean them all. With Soap and bleach.
They were squeeky clean.
He was not amused.
I ruined a 500 dollar mirsham
He still isn't amused almost 40 years later.

That's one of the things I miss since my heart went bad; sitting down and enjoying a pipe full of latakia with a book and a cup of good coffee.

Keeping a pipe in your pocket can lead to a real mess if the pipe goes through the washing machine! Just ask my mother. ;)

Very cool. My dad smoked on before I was around, but gave it up. I need one to try to smoke all my cut up nubs. I will NOT be deterred.

Came over via David's blog.

Lovely post and photo. I inherited my Grandfather's pipe after he died 15 years ago. My kids think I used to smoke a pipe...lol

Nothing like the smell of pipe tobacco. Especially condor. Dad used to smoke a pipe too. The smell brings the childhood rushing back.

My grandfather was a pipe smoker and he also stored some of his pipes in an old cigar box. My uncle still has it -- and a pipe holder my grandfather made from a deer horn. As your post recalled them to my memory I almost caught a whiff of cherry-vanilla pipe tobacco.

My brother used to keep a collection of pipes, too, and I loved the scent of the cherry tobacco. I still love to go into smoke shops and enjoy the heady scent. I come from a family that made their living in tobacco (not rich at all, mind you, just got by), but I no longer smoke or enjoy any form of it. I do miss it, and it's a shame that it will kill you. :-/

Peace - D

Best thing to do is to get them cleaned up and learn to smoke them.

A very enjoyable hobby.
