People watching at the polls

I noticed that our public library was holding early voting this morning so I stopped in so I could avoid the rush when they open the primaries.

The line wasn't very long but the lady sitting at the registration table really loved her job and had to berate everyone that didn't have their orange card. This silly bitch had an inane comment for whoever came up to the table. After 15 minutes she had only processed 5 people. I was about to walk out, but another person showed up to help.

I noticed that the people in line were more diverse than I expected. Everyone was sneaking glances trying to figure out whether the guy next to them was a Democrat or Republican.

There was an old lady dressed like a beach comber, An old man in a fishing hat, A black lady in a Che Guevara shirt and other various folks with differing degrees of weirdness.

I noticed people were trying to figure me out as well. Black combat boots, jeans, and a T-shirt beard and ponytail. From previous experience people usually assume Democrat. Oh well.

I got up to the registration lady and when she asked me for my Orange card I told her my dog ate it and handed her my drivers license. She was about to warn me that I may not be able to vote but the computer beeped it's approval just before she could finish her sentence.

She asked me "what party?" I told her "Republican" She shouted "OH GOOOOD!"

What the fuck is it with people. She didn't comment on the party choice of the 30 people in front of me... Maybe she thought I was that lost sheep that finally came home to the GOP..whatever.

When I got up to the machine I noticed that there wasn't really much point in the ballot because there was only one candidate to pick from for 80% of the offices.

I just had to go vote in the primaries just so I could blog about it.

November will be the important one.

I'll be making my rounds to everyone's blog today and tomorrow.

Have a good weekend!

When I voted on Super Tuesday, I wasn't asked for a voter card, or what party, or even for any i.d. Just had to sign the book.
Black combat boots, jeans, tshirt, beard and ponytail.... sounds libertarian to me. ;)

Love the Fisher Price. Being from Fla.- (although born there in the 50's-) I barely escaped the wave of stupidity that seeped into the ground water in the early to mid 80's and has run rampant ever since!

Glad you voted!

For the first time ever, I voted in the Democratic primary. If my dad knew, he'd disown me.

But I'm quite fed up. And today I watched the news clip of W shrugging his shoulders when the reporter told him about the $4 per gallon prediction in gas prices by Spring. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "Huh. That's interesting. I didn't know about that."

Honestly, I'm just so discouraged by all of our choices in this primary.

I don't think they should be allowed to ask, and no one should register party affiliation. Here in WA, if you wanted to caucus (for the DEMs anyway- dunno about the GOP) you had to sign a sworn party loyalty oath or they wouldn't count your vote. THAT'S democracy, eh?

I can well imagine the long hair, kind of a Terry Goodkind look. I would have grown mine long, but after 20 years of having it short I can't stand it long enough to get in my face, which means I never let it grow long enough for a ponytail.
I'll vote in the NC primaries, but I don't know what kind of choices I'll have.

I like to tell people I'm a Reindecrat.

I don't vote based on a party, but rather on the individual who stands the best chance for screwing up the country the least.

Yeah, I get a lot of strange looks.

"...there was only one candidate to pick from for 80% of the offices."

We soooo need to have a NATIONAL primary day, so we can all vote for ALL of the candidates!

I wasn't going to vote because I hate being labeled as Democrat or Republican, and especially hate that anyone within earshot will know. But turns out my district has issues on the ballot that I want to vote on, so I'll grit my teeth and go.

Did you get a I voted sticker?

Hammer,

That's one good thing about voting back home here. I go in to vote, and it's my old bus driver's wife registering people:

"Hi, Ethel."
"Hi, Jerry."

I don't understand people like that lady at the polling place - why does she feel qualified to slap everyone on the wrist? So arrogant.

I'm dreading the entire election, but I'll do my part.

Sometimes I miss the voting experience.. We vote totaly by mail here in Oregon... and our primary isn't until May 16th...I agree with tsh, We should have the primaries all at the same time.. same freeking month at least. But I understand the candidates need to make appearences etc.

I wonder why the primary are not held all on the same day, people could change their mind following the other states results.

Have a great week.

A few weeks ago in FL, I had to show both my voter registration card and picture ID.

We have the kind of ballots that have the color in the oval, like 5,000 tests I took in school and college. I can do those easily, and no hanging chads to worry about.

I'm glad you got to vote though.

I just got back from voting. There were two tables set up, one for each party, and the Rep lady had to keep shooin' the Dems over to the right place. And yea, there were only about three or four races with more thsan one candidate. Took me 30 seconds to fill it out, slide it in the machine and I was out. Can't go to the convention tonight because of class. Anyway, as I filled in the little oval for McCain I mumbled "OK you shiftless bastard, you better win." The dems had a much bigger line of folks, but they've got more of a real race. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
