This speaks for itself

The president's lead agent approached the line of men as quickly as it closed and demanded to be allowed through. Within a few seconds, the confrontation began to escalate with voices being raised and shoving in all directions. "You're not stopping me! You're not stopping me!" yelled the agent, as captured by several television cameras. "I'm with the president."
During the fracas, another Secret Service agent was roughly pulled from the tumult and pushed against a concrete wall by Chilean security. A few seconds later, after posing for yet more pictures about 15 feet inside the doorway, Mr. Bush and the rest of the party turned to enter the dining room. But the president quickly turned his head to the growing din just outside. Mr. Bush calmly turned right as the other three continued on and inserted himself into the fight.
The president reached over two rows of Chilean security guards, grabbed his lead agent by the shoulder of his suit jacket and began to pull. The tape of the incident, viewed by reporters last night, could not pick up any words the president might have been saying as he worked to get the agent through the line.
A few Chilean guards turned their heads and noticed that the arm draped over their shoulders was that of the president, and the line softened. Mr. Bush pulled his agent through, who was heard to say, "Get your hands off me" as he passed roughly through the doorway. Mr. Bush then adjusted his shirt cuff and said something to the first dignitary he passed as a grin crossed his face.
Here is the rest of the article and a video of the incident
It seems the Chilean guards were pissed that the president was using his own secret service protection and they decided to take a stand at the perceived insult.
Do you think Gore, Kerry, Clinton or anyone else would jump into a fracas to rescue a secret service agent?
Here is something else I found interesting:
According to Gary Aldrich, Former FBI agent in charge of White House Security screening, Chelsea Clinton referred to the Secret Service agents who guard the President as “Trained Pigs”. When one of the agents explained to her that they were there to protect her and her parents, would give their lives to do so, and that it was inappropriate to call them that, she shrugged her shoulders and said “That’s what my parents call them.” This speaks volumes in the difference between President Bush and ex-President Clinton.
There are plenty of bad things you can say about the commander in chief, but stupid, cowardly and disloyal are not among them.

I never knew that Bush actually volunteered for duty in 'Nam, but I guess I wasn't really paying enough attention.
Do you think Gore, Kerry, Clinton or anyone else would jump into a fracas to rescue a secret service agent?
Negative, Ghostrider. But you can bet your sweet arse that if they had, it'd be on the front page of damn near every paper in the country.
yeah, well chelsea's father, janet reno, may beg to differ!
this potus has nads - that's for sure!

I'm with you on the views of Bush. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms that can be made of the man, but the notion that he's some kind of idiot is just plain dumb.
Bravo, Hammer.
And during the run-up to the last Presidential election, much was said about how much smarter John Kerry was than President Bush. It finally came out in June of '06 that President Bush made better grades at Yale than did John Kerry. I got a big laugh out of that.
I guess Kerry just sounds smarter with his Thurston Howell III accent.
All I can really say to this is wow. I mean come on. I understand where Bush wants his own men to stand and guard him but dont you think he would have told the other man he was having dinner with that is what he wanted instead of having this outlandish and childish fight over it.
That's impressive.
He's made a lot of bad mistakes in his speaches. They're called Bushisms. That's where his idiocy stems from. "Fool me once...shame on ...shame on me...fool me....and we can't get fooled again".
I completely agree...He may not be the most fantastic President, but her certainlyis not an idiot or cowardly! Good post!
The presidency (or any leadership position) should not be a popularity contest based on public speaking ability and looks and tossing bones to all and sundry. Unfortunately, many people will vote based on a speech someone else has written, because someone is good looking or have mentioned they will be giving free such and such to whatever group.
Anyone who has been able to get to a position where they are even nominated to any high political office is anything but stupid. They must have a significant understanding of how to make deals, manipulate people and appear confidant yet personable at the same time.
Unfortunately, voters are not expected to understand policies or pass any intelligence tests in order to vote and in any case the PR team will be spinning on behalf of their candidate anyway so that seeing the true agenda is impossible through all the smoke and mirrors.
Pistolero: somehow I think you're right.
nanc: that he does.
Queen: they said the same about Reagan for years and now he's considered a great statesman.
JAM: I remember reading that..on page 27 of the classifieds...seems the news people didn't like that tidbit.
Tweety: They went over it before the meeting. The Chilean police decided they didn't care what was decided and started the fight and proceeded to beat up Bush's seccret service agents.
Jean: Almost unheard of since Truman.
PaulF. he's a terrible unscripted speaker. It makes me cringe.
Jenny: People like to call names instead of facing the real issues. If they stuck to that I would be hard pressed to disagree with his detractors.
Jeannie: that is politics in a nutshell.
President Bush has dealt with all of the personal attacks on his level of intelligence since he was Governor of Texas in a dignified manner, which is by saying nothing.
Wouldn't you think that at least one person in the MSM would have realized by now that Texans, more than any other Americans, would NEVER elect someone to be Governor who they felt was studid, cowardly, or disloyal.
Perhaps your best, and most important, post to date, Hammer.
Veritas et Fidelis Semper
I remember this when it happened. Good for him! Not too many Presidents in the recent past would have done this.
when was the pres in chili... I'm behind
A very interesting observation Hammer. Of course, a good man does not make a good or great president. A clever man neither. Personally I would never take on the responsibility of the lives of millions of people and know that my bad decisions would affect the lives of so many people. How can anyone live with that knowledge? As human beings we all make mistakes. To know that in a position of power, our mistakes will be amplified to enormous proportions, and played out on the world stage is an awesome responsibility. It takes more than just intelligence, courage and morality to make a great leader. It is the quality that cannot be defined or measured by any normal means. It's sad to say that the democratic process isn't the best method for choosing the best person for the role of leadership. But then what method is?
He has the First Nads, in my opinion. Yeah, he sounds dufus at times...but hey, so do I.
Meleah: I'm not saying he is a great president, just most likely a decent person.
Deborah: I think the story didn't get the coverage it deserved. The left is appalled at the thought of a cowboy president. I think the ideals atrributed to cowboys are positive and are to be admired.
Barista: I think Reagan would but not many others.
snowmanpoop: this happened a little while back but was a page 7 story.
lexcen: You summed it up quite well. I'm not sure that anyone who "wants" to be president is a good choice.
Mushy: People will use anything to attack him, Remember when he almost choked to death on a pretzel? The media was jumping up and down like a bunch of monkeys in heat wishing for the worst.
Hammer-
Thanks for the edumacation- that is very enlightening and speaks volumes about a persons Character or lack thereof. I have always like President Bush- esp. a man who is not afraid to speak about Faith and just uses it when he needs it for political reasons etc.
I have always seemed to finf him Genuine- as for ex- President Clinton- I saw him for the first time on TV and spoke off the cuff at the time to my wife- Now there is someone you can't trust- almost evil. I don't usually make such snap judgements but.......
Anyway- Thanks so much for passing on "The REST of the story- if we would only take the time to listen to the other 1/2 of whatever- Story, rumor, gossip whatever- we would be amazed at where the truth Lie? Yes?
John
I agree that Bush isn't an idiot. I think that the problem is that he's often bored by the duties of the office and delegates too much to his subordinates, some of which are either idiots or incompetent.
Man, I agree 100% with everything you said. I'm so tired of people making the cheap and easy criticisms of Bush (stupid, draft-dodger, Nazi, whatever). I think he's a decent guy who is out of his league and hasn't done what he was elected to do.
That whole Clinton family scares me to death. If Hillary becomes president, I'll go back to Cuba!
Amen Hammer, amen.
I don't know what else to say, except I completely agree with you on both bush and the clintons.
There's a piling on effect, and the usual assumption that any conservative (and we can argue how conservative he really is) with a southern drawl is stupid. It all gets piled up there and turns into ammo for his opponents. I just wish he were more eloquent.
Yep, he's got a pair, but you need more than that to succeed in his job. Bummer.
Sorry Hammer, a few decent acts/attributes does not redeem the de-constructive actions and belligerence in foreign policy. That there would be any military family or actual conservative that'd vote for him baffles me. If only the Dems weren't as bad...
It's about f___ing time someone with more than a few functional brain cells showed the masses how to properly disagree with a political figure, love him or hate him.
Thank you for your tact, sir. Well done.
tweaker
I never knew about this. This is my favorite post in months, and thank you for making this known to me.
As far as Bush being stupid, the more the left presents him as ChimpBushHitler, the more I'm reminded that this person they claim is virtually a mongoloid is a mongoloid who beat their best candidates twice, without really trying too darn hard the second time either. And what does that say about them? Me, if someone beat my guy in an election, I'd say wow, that guy must have been pretty smart and able to beat someone as great as my guy. Let's go back to the drawing board and make our ideas stronger so we can beat this giant the next time. But then again, I'm not a liberal. They lose, they have post election stress syndrome. They win Congress in 2006, and I get charged up and politically active to try to beat liberal Democrats by getting involved in the process.
An F-102 is an interceptor not a fighter plane. It was still ebing used in the mid-eighties to intercept Russian bombers that got too close. I think the big peccadillo was Bush stopped showing up for drill before the end of his commitment. The way the troops are currently being abused makes me believe he doesn't care about them so much as trying to fix his mistake. Our military is being driven into the ground, in fact.
On the other hand I have yet to meet a Democrat that was worth a hoot in hell.
[insert deity of choice] help us in 08!
If we can't call him stupid, cowardly, or disloyal, then what else can we call the man who has, with the help of his crooked administration, run this country and its reputation straight into the ground during his mercilessly long tenure?
If he's actually smart, then he's acting and speaking like a twit on purpose, which is worse.
I wouldn't call him cowardly either. Just foolhardy and stubborn, two traits I'd rather substitute for something else in a commander-in-chief.
And he's certainly NOT disloyal. So much so that he's willing to hang onto or appoint the most crooked, incompetent, and/or downright embarrassing cabinet members and advisers possible just so long as they all agree on the same neo-con agenda. That's called "groupthink."
I speak not as a left-wing Democrat, but as a Libertarian. The man has been an embarrassment to this nation for nearly 8 years, and I hope the door doesn't hit him in the ass in January '09.
John: Thanks, that's exactly what I was trying to get across.
Brandon: I think pretty much all politicians are incompetant these days and insulated against the real world.
Diesel: Exactly!Well said.
Scarlet: That would be a dark day indeed.
Burfica: It's about character, you don't see dubya geting BJs from interns and his political opponents dissapearing.
FHB: Not sure who could do a good job in this day and age with as screwed up as the whole system is.
Stucco: I'm not absolving him of anything, just countering the idiot, draft dodget McHitler Bush label that everyone loves to chant on about. There are plenty of things to be critical about not sure why people need to lie and print up fake documents to discredit him when there is so much other ammunition available.
Speaker: thanks, and thanks for visiting.
mts: The Dems are living in some fantasy land and cannot come up wit a decent electable candidate to save their lives.
Phosgene: No argument here, the story goes, after he was told Vietnam was a no go, he just drifted off and stopped showing up.
From people I've known that just stopped going to reserve drills they just get discharged after a few years.
Allie: I agree that there are lots of problems with this country, but I don't think it's in the ground, and when did we ever have a reputation..everyone hates us for one reason or another. I consider my self libertarian too and disagree with most of Bush's policies but I'm speaking to his character as a person not a leader.
Allie's points and Hammer's answer...that's my comment.
Didn't read through all the comments, so this may already have been said; This post should be everywhere and as usual the MSM totally ignored any "good" or positive news concerning President Bush.
Well done, Hammer!
My opinion of W is very similar to yours, Hammer. He spends like a democrat (almost) but he is a decent man at bottom.
ah Hammer....I knew there was something I liked about you...
Bush is certainly not an idiot.
Well done.
Yeah, ole 'bubba' Bush out dim-a-crited the dim-a-crits in Florida..twice..and they just can't forgive that. The daly machine from Chicago was here and thught they had the election stolen..but what they didn't count on was that Bush had some people who knew how to steal elections also..LOL
Bubba Bush is a lot of things and most of them I don't particularly like but stupid ain't one of his problems. Misinformed maybe but damn sure not stupid.
I have to admit I have sorta always liked Bush. Clinton was never my favourite and the more I learn about him the less I like him. Wtg Georgie !!!!
Really enjoyed the post.
Bush is NOT Bad, Stupid or... (fill in the blank) My fill ...perfect and extremest. He really is a middle of the roader. I am basing this on what I learned about his term as Gov. of TX. So that really pisses the Right and Left Extremos off. Bush offered to compromise this year with the Dems, and he did it- got rid of Rumsfeld, changed the leaders in Iraq (can't remember the names now). What have the Repubs done to work with him? Oh Yeah, they sent Pelosi to Syria...
Most people project their own expectations into the President office. When it's not met, then the UGLY side comes out.
Since Bush is my Commander In Chief, I can't speak critically of him, but I do agree with your assessment of his personal character Hammer. I believe that he truly is a good man. I'll reserve my opinion of him as a leader and politician for when he is no longer in my chain of command.
Yeah, that's a really cool news item which does bespeak the real character of George W Bush. Add to that him putting his money where his mouth is as far as having his modestly sized home built to be environmentally conservative and as self-sustaining as possible, and compare that to the flagrant self-indulgence of Gore and his ilk, and it's amazing people are so dead-set on being critical of him.
The other thing about people questioning his intelligence is the contradiciton of the way they call him ignorant and yet credit him with engineering the biggest plot against the USA in decades in the form of the 9/11 attacks.
"Jeb's the smart one." -frmr president George Bush Sr.
