Hammer's 8th

I'm mostly of Irish descent so I thought I'd do a silly one in tribute.

Good job once again Hammer! I'm expecting to see a link any day now gracing your sidebar.. "Hammer Film Production" :D

I have a shillelagh like the one in video.. it was my grandfather's who lived in Ireland until his teen years. My grandmother was born on the ship from Ireland to the US. Not sure how they all ended up in Alabama of all places... must have been the coal mines and the steel mills. :D

groovy: that is really cool. I wish I knew more about my ancestors. I made a and carried shillelagh when I was a kid and had no idea that it was a real ancestral weapon. I guess DNA is powerful stuff ;)

I cringe every time I see a picture or reference to kissing the Blarney Stone. Years ago, an Irish lass I knew said that if I ever went to Ireland, I should NOT kiss the Stone. She said that the local people like to piss on it as a joke on the tourists.

I wish my work would decide if we can watch or not. Today I can't.

Many of my ancestors come from there too, but I guess I picked up a few prejudices vicariously as a kid when we lived in England. Back then, late 1960s, you had "the Troubles", with Ian Paisley and Burnardett Devlin (I'm sure I'm spellin' these names wrong), and lots of bombs going off in London. As a result I don't remember anything about Vietnam from that time. It's all the IRA, and the British stereotypes about the drunken Paddies. Shows the influence of the media on young minds. I watch John Ford movies and love them to a point, and then it's "Yea buddy, have another drink". Can't help myself. Guess I'm a bigot.

I can't believe I've never heard that number.

Would've been good for St. Paddy's day but now's fine too.

It's such a shame there's been sooooo much trouble in Ireland. All the Irish people I've ever met are happy, musical, fun-loving and generous.

Loved the last eye with the tear.

I think having some Irish in yer blood is definitely a good thing =)

fathairybastard: I've seen several documentaries. Frigging awful stuff.

Jeannie: Just found the song recently, I'll have to repost next year :)

Judith: I've got Irish on all sides of me. I'm going to visit my uncle soon and get some specifics.

KB: I credit it with my sense of humor and irreverent nature :)
