Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF)

There are some things that I don't understand no matter how hard I try.

I feel sometimes that I am surrounded by mindless zombies...

They will not take a stand or even acknowledge that there is a transgression happening in front of their eyes. It drives me fucking bugnuts.

How can people ignore vile repugnant behavior and pretend it does not exist?

Let me give you a few examples:

I worked in an office with about 300 other people. The vice president of international sales was a dirty old man. I'll call him Geoff. He was always touching the asses of young female employees, hell, even male employees. He would announce himself as "doctor tongue" to any female who met his acquaintance. This bothered me greatly so I encouraged those he harassed to report this asshole. The upper management people swept it under the rug several times and convinced the employees not to press charges.

One day Geoff comes back from a sales trip to Thailand with an album containing photos of all the children he molested during his trip. He gleefully walked around the office showing off his exploits. He even put some of the nude pictures on his office wall.

NOBODY CARED OR SPOKE UP.

I saw people I liked and considered friends laughing and joking with Geoff as he showed off his filth. Approaching these people later, I asked them "WHAT THE FUCK?" "Oh it's just Geoff" they would reply. I made it a point to "out" this disgusting fuck to anyone who would listen which was not many. The police wouldn't even investigate because it happened in Thailand.

I ended up leaving that job in disgust. I could not work with the people who tolerated this behavior.

My wife's relative is a bad apple. He steals, deals, fights and has no loyalty or respect for anyone. He pawned all his mother's jewelry, stole everything that wasn't tied down and when his parents would lock him out he would just break in and go on living like nothing had happened. This kid had no conscience. I heard the stories and saw the broken windows. but when I would go over to their house, he was there with everyone acting as if nothing happened. They expected me to play nice nice with their derelict thief druggie son after they cried on my shoulder about what a piece of shit he was. It makes me sick. Put up or shut up I always say.

My father remarried about 10 years ago. She had two grown kids. I'll call Steve and Anne My father never had much but he did his best to help her kids out all he could. They got to go to school on his GI bill, he bought them cars, which they wrecked and wouldn't accept responsibility for. He let them live in his rental house which they trashed and gutted. He even got them jobs and vouched for them and they would steal and screw everything up. The son professed to have changed his ways, came over to stay with my dad and ended up stealing the guns I had given my father for Christmas, selling them to a crack dealer and skipping town.

My dad's wife didn't want to call the police. I told her "bullshit" I bought those guns under my name and if they get used in a crime it's my ass. My dad did the right thing and reported the guns stolen. A couple of weeks later my dad's wife calls me and tells me it's Steve's birthday and would I come to the party at their house.... WHAT? I got my dad on the phone and asked if Steve had replaced the guns...no, had he apologized? Noooo.... So why the fuck is this thieving asshole having a birthday party at my dad's house on his dime?. I just don't get it.

I'm working at this bar and at closing I'm getting everyone out the door when I see two guys trying to shove a small woman into the back of their car. She is resisting. Everyone is walking by them completely oblivious to this woman's plight. I kept hearing her tell them no she didn't want to go with them.

I had enough. Nobody was paying attention or didn't care that this woman was being abducted in front of their faces. I walked over pretending to be drunk, grabbed one of the guys hands and started yelling "HEY MAN REMEMBER ME FROM HIGH SCHOOL!!" This distracted the two would be rapists long enough for the girl to run to her truck and lock herself in. The bad dudes tried to follow her but I was able to keep them occupied while she made her escape.

Fifty or so people walked by a person in obvious distress and to this day I cannot believe what cowards they were.

The sum of my experiences with other inhabitants of this giant mud ball do not add up to anything good. Sadly it seems that our country is filled with blind, cowardly, sheep unwilling to make waves or stand up for what is right.
