This and that.

I accidentally ran across a local wine producer who has a store front here in town. It's called Water 2 Wine It looked a little fancy and I was just in my normal T-shirt and jeans/baseball cap, but I said fuck it and went in anyway. There were 20 foot tall racks of wine and a large wooden bar off to one side. But no obvious bottles for sale.

A lady came up and asked me if I needed help. So I told her that I wanted to pick up something nice for the wife for mother's day. She told me that their wine is completely different because they don't ship their wine, they don't have to use preservatives so she recommended I taste before buying.

I picked a pino noir, she poured a tiny glass and after tasting it I was shocked..it tasted completely different from store bought wines. It was exceptionally good. I tried 2 more and ended up buying one bottle of each. I would have bought more but I couldn't do any more tasting on an empty stomach without getting buzzed. They also have a setup where you can create your own personal batch of 30 bottles of wine in their winery under their tutelage, choose from a hundred different varieties of grapes, you go back in 6 weeks later, bottle it, and even make your own label.
Pretty cool!
I might take the wife next week when she is on vacation so we can make our own batch of wine.

Other than the tasting bar, we've had wine/beer making places here for years and years - take it home or pay to leave it there. A lot of the little Portuguese and Italian convenience stores sell the juice in the fall as well.

Gary's made me some phenomenal wines but also a number of duds.

I could be a serious wino! I like Pinot Noir for a red, but my fav is a white called 'Gewurztraminer'.

Sounds like a cool place you found. I'm sure your wife will think that's a great idea!

We have a few wineries not too far from us in NJ. Wonder if they have anything neat like that going on.

Very nice. We had a winery close by in central florida. The red wine was so good we served it at my sons wedding. His choice.

That sounds very nice - both your present to her for Mother's Day - and the idea of going back to make your own wine !

That sounds so very cool. With all those varieties of grapes though, it could be tricky. I always wonder how companies can make a "new wine" without having tasted every other wine in the whole WORLD before they can call it their own. What if someone else has done that one already?
Like new perfumes, how can you know it's a fragrance you just came up with. Maybe it's one you smelled before and think you just made up yourself....But I digress :-)

That's sweet that you got your wife a mother's day gift...very thoughtful of you...you are a rare gem.

Like the Italian places that you brought your own bottles and filled them from their huge containers. Doesn't get any fresher than that. That was the nice thing about Italy, even the table wine was out of this wrold. I must go back.

Very cool...giving Napa a run for their money!

That thing about the make your own batch reminds nme of the time a friend got ahold of a bottle of cannabis zinfandel that a winemaker friend of his had made a few cases of...

Pot leaf on the label and everything...

BUZZZZZZZY....
