Goings on
Last Friday the wife came home complaining of discomfort like there was something lodged under her contact lens. We flushed her eye out and I put some silver drops in it in case it was infected. The drops helped for a while but after a couple hours her eye was swollen shut and she was in tremendous pain.
Luckily the eye doctor she uses was open early on Saturday so I took her in, by this time she couldn't see out of the eye at all. The doc found two large ulcers on her cornea cause by some infection. We got some eye drops and the doctor arranged two more appointments through the memorial day weekend on his own time.
So every hour on the hour I put two sets of drops in her left eye. Gradually her vision came back but she couldn't read or drive. Now we are using steroid drops to take down the swelling and prevent scarring.
Luckily by Monday she was well enough that she could go to the family barbecue. I just brought my signature salad and some bratwurst. I had to skip the beer unfortunately but it was still a good get together and the kids got to go swimming.
Tuesday the wife sneaked off to work before I woke up even though she still couldn't see. I was pissed. Thankfully, her co-workers sent her home but she still shouldn't have been driving. I'm happy to say she is almost back to normal.

She's a workaholic huh? Scary to think this could happen - did it have something to do with her contacts? Or could it happen to anyone anytime? It sounds really painful and makes you realize how important sight is.
wow, hope she gets back to 100% soon! that must have been scary for a while.
Damn!!!
You must take care of your eyes and teeth. You can't grow more...of course you know that.
All the best for your girl...
wow - hope she's better soon! stay away from work; it only makes things worse ;)
Had to skip the BEER? WTF? I can only assume you'll be doing another post to explain that part. The truth must come out.
Good Lord, that sounds miserable... I hope she's feeling better!
I hope she's entirely better and free of woe soon. Eyeballs are scary things to have malfunction.
That is scary. I hope she gets better fast and that her vision is unaffected.
I hope she's okay...
infections in the eyes are dangerous business - rope her down, hammer! reminds me of the time nancpop was just this side of developing gangrene in his knee until i called his boss' wife and SHE made him go to the doctor - it was work related after all - he had a cut or scrape on his knee and was replacing a municipal pool pump and knelt down in the scummy water - BAM!
I read somewhere an eyepatch makes for interesting role play...
j/k hope she heals quickly
Good thing you have such a caring doctor ... must have been critical if the doc cut time for you during the holiday weekend.
Get well soon, Mrs. Hammer! (Stay HOME for a couple of days)
Your wife is a trooper! Wow! I'm hoping she's 100 percent better soon!!
I've had this happen to me and it's torture. Let me tell you, GITMO has nothing on ulcerated corneas.
Glad she's on the mend and it's nice she has such a good caretaker like you hammer
;-)
Hope your Mrs. is feeling perfectly well very soon.
You make a good male nurse.
Eek! Anything to do with eyes really makes me squirm. So glad to hear that you have it under control. There's something about vision that really hits home.
Best wishes
Praying for a complete and total recovery.
Wowzers. Hope she's back to 100% soon. The eyes are frakkin amazing things. The hyper cell specification for transparency alone is kind of mind blowing.
A stubborn wife? Yeah, that's back to normal, I'd say.
Damn wimmen!
Way too stubborn.
That sounds a little scary. Good thing she got things taken care of fairly quickly. Who knows how bad that could've become.
We need an update! How is your wife doing??
Glad to hear that she got treatment right away, and that the doctor was such a good egg to bring her in and monitor things like that.
And yeah, what Dana said, let us know when she's better.
She sounds like a Texas women to me. Tough and dedicated. Glad she is doing better. Oh to bad about the beer.
Any idea though what caused the ulcers on the cornea in the first place? Scary issue here, indeed! Reminds me that I really do need to make an appointment to have my eyes checked sometime in the near future. The glasses I have now are only two years old but they've never really been adjusted properly in my opinion cause I have to lean my head at different angles way too often to see correctly through the damned trifocals from different distances. Pain in the dupa that is to deal with but them's the breaks I suppose sometimes.
We women are pig headed....
I'm glad to hear your wife is feeling better. I hope that all goes well. Eye problems suck!
wifey needs a spanking
Had to scroll down and see what was going on with your wife's eyes. I'm glad that she's better but SO SORRY she had problems to start with. Sounds like it was not only painful but pretty scary too.
And I quit teaching dance and took my girls out of dance (and enrolled them in Martial Arts) for the very same reason you stated. It just seemed to get worse and worse every year.
OK, that was some pretty scary shit! Glad to hear that she is ok!
