Back from the beach

We had a good time at the beach. It's only 130 or so miles to the coast so the trip really isn't that arduous. Our condo was three bedroom three bath with a kitchen, washer and dryer and a large balcony.
The biggest issue was how they placed us at the farthest end from the pool, beach and picnic area. It was a major trek anytime we needed to get something or someone had to pee.
Like I mentioned before, I did all the cooking. One night I did hot dogs, hamburgers and grilled vegetables out in the common area that had several small barbecue pits and picnic tables. The place was like a wind tunnel so it was hard to eat without everything blowing away.
The next night I did shrimp, steak and asparagus. This time I seared the steaks on the pit and brought them inside and let them rest in the oven while I made the rest of the food. It worked out much better. The food was a hit.
The shrimp was simple.
Peel a pound of frozen shrimp and set aside in a bowl.
In a large skillet on medium heat melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the shrimp, toss lightly and squeeze the juice from 2 fresh lemons over the top and add a pinch of salt and a pinch of cracked black pepper. As soon as the shrimp turn orange, remove from heat and put them in a serving bowl.
We went to the ocean a few times but the sea was very rough and the undertow was treacherous. I had to keep a very close eye on the kids. There was also a large influx of the Portugues man-o-war jellyfish. My daughter just thought it was a pretty purple bubble and went to touch it . Luckily we got to her before she got stung.
The next morning I took the kids for a walk along the beach to look for shells and there were hundreds of live jellyfish everywhere. They were fascinated by all the different creatures that we saw on our short walk.

Glad you had a good time! I love the beach, and can't wait for our trip in August!
I really love the beach. Glad you had a nice time.
Dang man, I should have come to your house for dinner! LOL!
Hey, stop by my blog...the last 2 days I've posted a true story about the first of my family to come to the west coast in the 1850's written by one of the family members.

Damn it Hammer, now you've gone and made me hungry!
I'm glad you guys had a good time, I just love the beach. I think in my next life I should be a beach bum.
Sounds like a wonderful time. Glad you enjoyed yourself though. I have never seen a real jellyfish.I mean I have seen them at the zoo but never like walking on the beach. I bet they are pretty neat to see.
I'm not much of a beach person, but with good food and good company, I can be persuaded to hang out for a little while.
We're only about 50 mins. from Atlantic City and a little more to other shore points in NJ. The jellyfish get crazy sometimes here too. So other than a day trip or two during the summer, and a few nights of the boardwalk fun, I usually prefer to stay home and live in my own pretty purple bubble. ;)
Glad you had fun.
Aw. Thats terrific. So glad you had a wonderful time.
What a nice luxury to live so close to a real beach. Not like ours aroud MN where 20 feet of questionable sand is littered with various lake weeds.
What area were you at?
I should not have read this before lunch....my mouth is watering. I want some shrimp and asparagus.
Good thing you got to your girl in time, I got stung by one of those (stepped on it) and my leg swelled to twice its size, it was freaky.
sounds like you had a good time though. I would have been totally freaked by the jelly fish.
dude. you peeled a pound of frozen shrimp? Why didnt you get it already peeled if it was frozen? Now THAT'S simple.
Glad you had a good time at the beach, even if it was a bit windy the first night ! The kids are lucky to have you cook for them :)
I'm hungry again too. LOVE the ocean...not jellyfish tho or undertow. Can the kinds swim? That's one of the best things a child can learn...
Glad you had a good time. I would love to see those jellyfish!
I'm voting for the seared steak.
Seriously. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. :)
a good time was had by all! we got some of that wind all the way up here in n.w. arkansas.
we're planning a camping trip to the lake in the next week or two.
sidenote - before my in-laws came a few weeks ago, we were looking for a used pop-up camper - searched high and low for an inexpensive model - guess what? our boss' son has one in very good shape he's been TRYING TO GIVE AWAY and has given it to us! i can't wait!
What a great vacation. I miss the ocean, but I don't miss the ocean with kids.
Glad you had a good time. Jellyfish suck! Last time we went to the shore there were thousands of little jellyfish, they got into out hair etc. Not dangerous, just gross!
sounds like a good trip. Yuck, jelly fish!
Peace
sounds like a nice trip in spite of the inconveniences. Now you know not to stay there next time. The food sounds great!
I'm leaving the beach for a few days for the mountains...smile.
Good times at the beach! I am envious. By any chance did you pass SA on your way down? And are you passing SA on your way back? If so, give me a shout...lets go out for a beer!

glad u are back!
I love spending time on the beach! Yes, even a dead jelly fish can sting! Just something to keep in mind if you get stung by a jelly fish NEVER put freash water on the sting but SALT WATER ONLY (fresh water will open up the poison cells). Thanks for sharing.
I need a good walk in the sand with my kids. I'm glad you had a good time at the beach.
Long time no see Hammer. (My fault, I went private) But I'm visible again.
I love asparagus. It's a very under rated vegetable don't ya think? Your recipe sounds divine.
Hope to see you around again,
Michelle

Glad it went well, except for your placement. My husband would have made them move us.
My daughter got stung when she was maybe 8. We never saw it but she had the symptoms. So the doc gave her the most enormous needle I've ever seen.
mmm... shrimp. i like that recipe. i'll have to try it. sounds like you had a great vacay.
a pinch of Italian seasoning on the shrimp comes out nice too. I fear the ocean, but I do love beach combing. The coolest place was in CA where they had tidal pools - all like miniature aquariums...
Sounds like an interesting and fun time!
Walked back to PEE? Dude, That is what Chlorine is for! The menu sounds great. Just wanted to stop by and say Hi.
Jelly fish- especially Mother Smuckers- really suck. Grew up with the small one's on the Gulf Coast of Fla., but when they were there en masse- it was outta the water baby. Ps- If you warm them- (Microwave on thaw) for 15 seconds, they spread much more easily!
HI.
J
Sounds cool! Last time I was on that coast was in the mid-70s. I guess I need to go back.
