Somthing a little different
My uncle gave me some pictures that I had never seen before. It was eerie to see my family members in these 50 + year old pictures. These people seemed so old when I met them. Some were gone before I was born.

This is a pic of my uncle bud (Edward). I got to meet him a couple times when he was a nice old man. From what everyone tells me, in his youth Bud was a brawler and a hell raiser who nobody dared mess with. Whenever one of the younger kids such as my mom, screwed up, Bud would give them an ass whooping they would not soon forget. All the way up into his seventies he was a wild man, smoking and drinking and dating 5 women at once.

I love old pictures like those; they give you a connection to people in your past.
What a treasure! Thanks for sharing them with us!
Looks like Norman Rockwell stuff.
I love pictures like these. When my grandma died, we went through a chest of old photos. Unfortunately, NONE of them were labeled and there's no one left who can identify most of the subjects. It's cool that you got to see these and know who they are.
hiya...just popped in and got all caught up with what I have missed while my puter was sick...
I am glad you had a great Christmas and all the relatives behaved themselves...or ya might have had a nice hangover..lol.
I totally agree with your post about getting old...my gremlin #1 commented once on my grey hairs creeping in. I told her they were all because of her and her brother...then grounded her..hee hee hee.
She doesn't comment about it anymore...I wonder why??? LOL.
Happy New Year!!!!
I have many photos dating back to the early 1900's that were my grandmother's. I'm talking several shoeboxes' worth. Plus many photo albums.
I go through all of them every couple of years even though I don't know everyone, I know they are a part of my family's history. I always notice something I've never noticed before and that makes it interesting.
I love old photos too. Thing is everyone in them has a story - you've just told a few. Makes you wonder what the grandkids will be saying about us when they pull out the old photos...

OH...this is cool...old picture and a great deal of nostalgia...Want you to have a great end and a happy new year...;)
I like the look of Uncle Bud - its like an old Western style of photo..
Happy New Year 2008 to you and your family, Hammer !
Lovely black n' whites hmmmm isn't always history explained in blacks n' whites no matter communication channels (words, pictures etcetera), when I come to reflect upon it ...

I keep seeing your hammerhead in various comment boxex so I thought I'd come by for a look.
That picture of your uncle Bud looks like he was getting ready to hand out one of those ass whoopings to the camera man right after taking this shot.
Your Uncle Bud sounds like my Daddy.
Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year.
Wow, you could change a few faces and you could find photos of places, people, and things just like that in our photo boxes!
Ol' Bud looks ready to pop you in the nose before you could flinch!
Awesome pictures Hammer! Uncle Bud sure sounds like he lived life to the fullest!! Your great grandfather must have been a big gentle giant - who didn't stand for any crap!! =D
Awesome...thank you so much for sharing!
Hey I think I knew Uncle bud! j/k :o)
I've said it before but dammit I need to get my scanner replaced! This was a fun post m'dear~~
very cool pics. I found a ton after my mom died. I had to have my aunts and uncles try to identify the people in them. Some of them we couldn't
Those pictures are a gift!
I LOVE stuff like this. My Grandmother passed away close to ten years ago... Shortly before she passed she gave me a box with close to 500 pictures right along the same lines as these.
I treasure them.
Happy New Year, Ham and Family!
What a character, your uncle Bud. Great old photos as well.
old pictures are great...
Uncle Bud seemed to be the hit...his stance, the look on his face, his hands poised to strangle someone...then your description. Great post.
Great Stuff Hammer. One of my sisters put together a photo album for each of us that contains old family pictures. It was a great present. Cheers and Happy New Year!!
It's great having old photos and the memories. Some of the long-gone ones are people you'd have loved to meet now.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow. I wouldn't want to mess with Uncle Bud. He looks like he's ready to rumble.
I love old pictures!
Uncle Bud is HOT! He looks like quite the rounder!
what a gift to have a piece of your history like that.
ps...Happy New Years Eve!! xxoo :)
Photos from the old days were so much better, had so much character. I like the ones that have the rounded edges, from around the dinosaur age.
Dated 5 women at once huh? I bet he was a heartbreaker!
These are GREAT! I love old photos like this! I have a ton of them from my parent's era. Its like looking into the past.
Sounds like you had a few characters in your family...what's that saying, the egg doesn't fall far from the tree? Something like that :)
Lovely souvenirs.
Bonne année, happy new year to you and family.
Feels weird going down memory lane sometimes doesnt it Hammer. I have photo's of relatives that I have never met in my life. Like my Great Grandparents on my mothers side of the family. Just to see who you look more like..
these are cool pictures. Thanx for sharing them with us.
Your blog is really interesting.
Cool photos.
~Oswegan
I envy you. I'd love for someone in my family to drop some old photos that I haven't seen in my lap. Good stuff, Hammer.
I'd recommend you getting a good old #2 pencil and writing what you know on the back of the photos in as much detail as you can. Pens make marks through the front, but pencils (not too sharp) do great.
Your kids will appreciate it. Heck you will too one day when you're asked about them and you have a brain fart and can't remember. All you have to do is turn them over.
Damn, those look just like some I have. There's a look to those cars and clothes in the 40s-50s that is too familiar. And yea, ol' Bud sounds cool as hell.
I think old family pictures are way cool....half of mine are straight from the hills of tennessee...you can almost hear the theme from deliverance
