Somthing a little different

My uncle gave me some pictures that I had never seen before. It was eerie to see my family members in these 50 + year old pictures. These people seemed so old when I met them. Some were gone before I was born.

On the back left are my grandmother and grandfather and the kid in the white T shirt on the right with the flat top is my Uncle. The rest are cousins that I haven't seen since I rode a Big wheel.

Far left is my Uncle Frank, Who died this past year. He was a crazy character who I liked a lot. Next to him is my great grandfather, who I never got to meet but from what I understand, I inherited his temperment.

This is a pic of my uncle bud (Edward). I got to meet him a couple times when he was a nice old man. From what everyone tells me, in his youth Bud was a brawler and a hell raiser who nobody dared mess with. Whenever one of the younger kids such as my mom, screwed up, Bud would give them an ass whooping they would not soon forget. All the way up into his seventies he was a wild man, smoking and drinking and dating 5 women at once.

I love pictures like these. When my grandma died, we went through a chest of old photos. Unfortunately, NONE of them were labeled and there's no one left who can identify most of the subjects. It's cool that you got to see these and know who they are.

hiya...just popped in and got all caught up with what I have missed while my puter was sick...

I am glad you had a great Christmas and all the relatives behaved themselves...or ya might have had a nice hangover..lol.

I totally agree with your post about getting old...my gremlin #1 commented once on my grey hairs creeping in. I told her they were all because of her and her brother...then grounded her..hee hee hee.

She doesn't comment about it anymore...I wonder why??? LOL.

Happy New Year!!!!

I have many photos dating back to the early 1900's that were my grandmother's. I'm talking several shoeboxes' worth. Plus many photo albums.

I go through all of them every couple of years even though I don't know everyone, I know they are a part of my family's history. I always notice something I've never noticed before and that makes it interesting.

I love old photos too. Thing is everyone in them has a story - you've just told a few. Makes you wonder what the grandkids will be saying about us when they pull out the old photos...

That picture of your uncle Bud looks like he was getting ready to hand out one of those ass whoopings to the camera man right after taking this shot.

very cool pics. I found a ton after my mom died. I had to have my aunts and uncles try to identify the people in them. Some of them we couldn't

Those pictures are a gift!

I LOVE stuff like this. My Grandmother passed away close to ten years ago... Shortly before she passed she gave me a box with close to 500 pictures right along the same lines as these.

I treasure them.

Happy New Year, Ham and Family!

Uncle Bud seemed to be the hit...his stance, the look on his face, his hands poised to strangle someone...then your description. Great post.

Photos from the old days were so much better, had so much character. I like the ones that have the rounded edges, from around the dinosaur age.

Dated 5 women at once huh? I bet he was a heartbreaker!

I envy you. I'd love for someone in my family to drop some old photos that I haven't seen in my lap. Good stuff, Hammer.

I'd recommend you getting a good old #2 pencil and writing what you know on the back of the photos in as much detail as you can. Pens make marks through the front, but pencils (not too sharp) do great.

Your kids will appreciate it. Heck you will too one day when you're asked about them and you have a brain fart and can't remember. All you have to do is turn them over.

Damn, those look just like some I have. There's a look to those cars and clothes in the 40s-50s that is too familiar. And yea, ol' Bud sounds cool as hell.
