Hammer's cocktails

When I have friends over or there is a get together of some sort I am usually appointed bartender. Not sure why, except for the fact I'm the only one who can still function after any number of my concoctions.
Everyone has their own preference but I usually make three or four specific adult beverages when I entertain.
Here are some favorites.
Martini: 3oz Tanqueray gin 1 tiny splash of vermouth 1 Tbs olive juice all over crushed ice, shaken vigorously and strained into a large wide mouthed martini glass. served with two large olives
Hammer's lemonade: 2 oz lemon vodka, 1 oz lemon juice, 4 oz lemonade poured over crushed ice, garnished with a lemon slice served in a large tumbler and stirred well.
Cranberry cocktail: 2 oz gin or vodka 3 oz cranberry juice 3oz of lemon lime soda served over crushed ice in a large tumbler with a lemon wedge and stirred well
Michilada: 6oz Mexican beer usually pilsner 1tbs Tabasco 2 oz lime juice (bottled) 1 oz bloody mary mix 1 dash of celery salt, shake well serve with a celery stalk or a pickled green bean in a tall glass. Can be shaken and served with a little ice if desired.
(Can use spicy V8 in a pinch)
Salty dog: 2 oz Taqueray Gin 4oz canned ruby red grapefruit juice serve over crushed ice in a salt rimmed glass with a lime wedge.
I make many of these with diet soda and sugar free ingredients for those who are watching their carbohydrate intake.

They sound delicious. The beer one is different. It does sound good though.
I was a bartender for a time. I've had my fill of mixing drinks.
A martini with olive juice is called a dirty martini around here. I don’t drink them often but when I do, I order “filthy” martinis instead. Sometimes I order a shot of olive juice on the side just to make sure. I drink dill pickle juice out of the jar too. There’s just something about vinegar and salt, I can’t get enough of that stuff.
I have taken to liking cocktails lately. Hardly ever drink actually, but I think a cocktail every now and again hits the spot - AND they're really really yummy!! =)
l>t: I tried bartending for a bit. Too much pressure from the impatient drunkards ;)
slaghammer: My too, lots of olive juice with the little bits of ice those are the best kind.
kb: The great thing about the drinks with citrus is that they burn off the alcohol faster and don't hit as hard. You're right, they taste great that's the best part.
I've had the cranberry one, it was really good. Salty dog sounds interesting...
I've always wanted to be a bartender...
Well, it looks like I will be busy try out these concoctions. Thanks for the recipies Hammer!
And remember, those of you who do not finish your drinks are committing Alcohol Abuse!

They sound good enough to try! None of them are sickly sweet which is what I like. I'll leave the beer one to my husband. I like my beer straight. I'm thinking I'll have to get a wee bottle of vermouth and make sure I have some olives...and some ruby grapefruit juice if I can find it.
Thanks for the ideas. I've been wondering lately what to try.
I dont drink but I can say I am weird. When I was a kid I used to drink the juice out of the pickle jar but not anymore. Its just to strong for me. Then again I love vinegar and salt with Cucumbers and tomatoes chopped up. Yes weird.
I respect those that don't drink, Like tweety...
but for those that do - When is the party?
I'm pretty sure I want some of that "Hammer Lemonade".
medodyann: The salty dog is one of my all time favorites and it's good for you too ;)
flyinfox: You are so right on the abuse. One bar I worked at the staff would draw straws t see who got to drink the spill tray at the bartenders station...
jeannie: The beer one is like a bloody mary lite.some use clamato (clam and tomato juice for an extra kick...That is a little much for me.
Tweety: I make the cucumers with salt and vinegar all the time. The kids eat it up like it's candy
Ryan: Kudos to those who don't drink as well. The lemonade is refreshing I have to be careful to not leave it sitting around where someone could mistake it for it's more innocent counterpart :)
They sound good! I don't usually drink anything but wine or beer, but I'd like to come to the party!
Hmm...sounds much better than the absinthe my uncle keeps threatening to buy. Some of my friends say they're going to buy me a bottle of imported beer and expect me to finish it before the night's out. Maybe I should keep these on hand for then. Hey, maybe I could get a part-time job as a bartender, depending on the liquor laws here.
(What the hell, it'll be New Years when I celebrate. Everyone expects you to get trashed. On the other hand, I don't have any hangover helpers, except "eat before you drink, drink a glass of water between each drink, and take a bottle of tylenol and plenty of water before you crash.")
- ISU Tinkerer
Janet: Most of the time I just stick with beer and wine too. Mostly because nobody tips me ;)
ISU: Tylenol and alcohol is a bad combo for the liver. the best hangover cure is to drink water with your alcohol and take 3 or 4 aspirin before bed.
The best imported beer I have found is madre sous. It has complex nutty flavorsd and is very strong. One bottle will do ya :)
Hey I might try a few of those. I don't drink very often, but when I do I'm a mixed drink kinda girl...no beer for me. My favorite drink is a Brandy Alexander.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Brandy
1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
1 oz Half-and-half or Heavy cream
1/4 tsp grated Nutmeg
Mixing instructions:
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de cacao, and half-and-half. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with the nutmeg.
I don't entertain at my place, I don't want a bunch of drunks here. Many of my friends are drunks but it's better to visit them other places.
I don't drink much of anything except beer so if you drop in for a fireside chat bring a case of Natural Light with you.
I can drink a fair amount of it and still seem and function normally. What ever in the hell normal is. :-)
Yeah, my bar tending gig lasted three days. LOL
Oh yummy! I'll have to print these off. I want to try Hammer's lemonade and cranberry cocktail
I love me some chocolate martinis mmmmm
Seems fine! :)
Cheers!
Alright done with my tag. I couldnt get the links in though. I dont know how. But I gave the blog addresses except for Zombieslayer. Well we are having company tonight. Have to go and get some of the dinner I am preparing done. Talk later and enjoy the tag you gave me. Tweets.
mrsjosegoldbloom: that sounds really good! thanks for the recipe :)
bbc: I have weeded out the accpetable drunks I'll have in my house I can count them on one hand
Natty light...good stuff and economical to boot :)
carrie: You won't be dissapointed :)
ieatsnowmanpoop: I've had a couple and they taste so much like candy I have to watch myself :)
lord of erewhon: Cheers! and thanks for visiting :)
Tweety: thanks I'll go check them out :)
Vodka and Cranbeery Juice is mahhhvelous, but you need to introduce them to the heavenly taste and bouquet that is Wild Irish Rose. Cheers!!
Here's my drink recipe for any occasion. It's called the "Real Man's Drink". Grab a bottle of something you like (I use Stoli or Jack), grab a quart of OJ or Coke if you use Jack. Pour a big shot, pound it. Chase it with juice or Coke. Repeat a few times then go get an IPA out of the fridge.
I had to chuckle at the suger free ingredients..all except the alcohol which is pure carbs..if a diabetic wants to run up blood sugar count a couple of shots of booze is a sure way to do it..
I want to come over and have you entertain me darn it! I like the sound of the lemonade one.. hell they all sound good, lol.
I love Tanqueray gin. We used to keep it on ice and drink it straight from the bottle back in the pre-kid days. :D
My drink of choice is gin & tonic with a splash of grapefruit juice.. yummy, or just plain gin & tonic. :D
matt-man: I'll have to try it :) If I puke I'm mailing it to ya ;)
paul f: thanks for visiting! Yeah, I've done chasers but got lazy ans started pouring it all together and that's how I came up with these dtinks ;) IPA is damn good on its own,
guyk: that's weird, the doctor said grain alcohol doesn't raise blood sugar and could actually lower it. The gin and vodka companies were advertising zero carb for a while during the atkins craze. I'm sure bourbon, rum , kalua and that stuff has tons of sugar though.
No Jaeger bombs? Duuuude...
I just bought some ruby red AND cranberry juice to mix with my tanqueray mmmmmm
Man, I always thought it weould be cool to go to the bar tending academy and learn all that shit. I don't drink much, but it fascinates me anyway.
MZ: jaeger is good but those college days fixed that ;)
jeannie: Sounds good :)
FHB: All the bar tenders I've know tell me the school is BS and you basically learn everything on the job with a book. It would be neat to know how to make all that stuff.
I'm not much of a drinker, but they sound really, really good. I have to try them. Thanks for sharing!
