I like Vegas

I consider Las Vegas a sort of home away from home. There's something about it that makes me feel good. The place isn't perfect and sometimes the timeshare assholes, nudie pamphlet hander outers, cabby's and panhandlers can get on my nerves, but once I'm in a casino/hotel everything seems to come together and I'm right at home.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big time gambler, drinker, show watcher or whore diddler. I just like to soak in the atmosphere, the flashing lights, the beeping of the machines and the care free feeling that seems to emanate from the place.
There's nothing better than dropping a few quarters in a machine, drinking an ice cold bud and not have to worry about going to bed, getting up or even driving home.
I usually stay in the Luxor. It's the big glass pyramid. The rooms are nice and have an Egyptian artifact motif thing going on. The elevators (inclinators) go up and sideways and there are always drunk people on the elevator that don't realize this and it's great fun to watch them puke on their shoes. The other great thing is you can reach 5 other casinos without even stepping outside. Tunnels, trams and moving sidewalks can take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. If not, hop in a cab and it's just a short 8 dollar ride to about anywhere on the strip.
The food is pretty good if you know where to look. No place is really bad except the Excalibur breakfast buffet....(shudder) Gone are the days of the coupon books and 99 cent steak and eggs but if you shop around you can do alright.
I also like Vegas because I am luckier than the average person when it comes to winning money. After about 11 trips to Vegas in the last 16 years I think I've only had one losing streak.
I think it's because I know when to walk away, cash in my chips and take my winnings back to the hotel room. Many than once I've walked up to a machine, won $400. $500 or $700 took it to my wife and said "we're not spending that."
I think the best ever was when I won the super nickel jackpot, I think it was 50,000 nicklels. We took the money, went to see a couple comedians, ate at nice steak house and went to the machine gun range and shot up everything they had. Those poor guys almost broke their thumbs loading submachinegun magazines for me. Hehehe
The wife and I are easy to please when it comes to vacations and even if we are just sitting by the pool with a top shelf margarita, an umbrella and no worries I'm fine with that.
I've finally decided that I don't like going with other people. I took my in laws and they were too scared and too cheap to have any fun. I took my bowling team and they were angry about losing money and complained about everything. I took my dad and his wife and all they wanted to do was sit at one machine for 18 hours straight until either they or the machine got all the money. I took my nephew and his wife and they just wanted to eat constantly. Fucking pigs.
From now on it's just me and the wife. No pressure no hassles and no worries.
I'm going to plan another trip here in the next few months, I think I need a recharge.
Depending on your personality, it can be a fun place even if you don't drink, gamble or diddle whores.

I agree with you when it comes to travel alone...only the family. I and my ex-husband found out that very soon, too.
Still, I like to travel alone. No hassel ...
50000 nickels... Those are a lot of nickels... I don't think I'd know what to do with that many nickels. Maybe go up on the roof and try to hit ppl with them.
My son lives in Vegas.
I've been there too many times.
There are some cools things to see, but once is enough.
I like Laughlin better, more laid back and quite.
Good track Nascar built there though.
Good Thursday morning, Hammer.
Thank you for the supportive comment on my blog - I appreciate it ! When you are down, kindness feels SO good !
I'd like to go see the Cirque du Soleil in Vegas, and maybe stay at the Bellagio... I can't fathom a hotel that large.
The only gambling I've ever done has been a few times at the slot machines somewhere -- $100 in quarters, and if they run out, I'm done.
It's worth a try sort of thing...
I'm usually lucky with lottery tickets, so I'm willing to do this as long as I know my limits. Then it's all no harm-no foul, had fun, liked that...
I have never been but would like to. I love to just sit somewhere, have a few drinks, and watch people. People are funny. Cheers!!
Well, I guess your karma/luck has allowed you to recover some of what you give! I spent one Thanksgiving in Reno back when it was still fairly a "small town." It was alot of fun. I had my purse stolen alonng with $300 cash in it but later I won $800 on a slot machine - kinda made up for it!
You know someone's going to create a blog tomorrow called Whore Diddler.
I've never been to Vegas but always thought I would have to go one day, just to experience it, even though I don't really like the gambling so much. Las Vegas is a lot of things, but I'm not sure I've ever heard it described as homey before!
ontario has allowed gambling in government run casinos for the last ten years or so.
a tax on stupid people i call it.
and it is a tax.
in vegas you actually have an atmoshpere and a culture to support the casino.
niagara falls and windsor and the c.n.e. are shit holes designed to deprive people of thier money in a highly efficient and artless way.
if there was a machine gun range i would consider going though.
That's proof of true love- that you actually want to take your wife along. :)
Kirsten: hassle free is the way to be.
chochoo: lol. Actually only about 4000 came out the pit boss or whoever came and handed me hundred dollar bills for the rest...and I ain't throwing those :)
BBC: I'll have to try laughlin everyone says it's great.
The Bellagio, Venician and the newer Wynn are amazing and opulent.
You would be very pleased if you stayed at any of those.
matt-man: People watching is at its best in Vegas that's for sure.
Nomas: That's how it usually works for me too. I hope my luck holds out.
Jocelyn: I'd better hurry and copyright it! ;)
Jay: Some love it and some hate it. I'm just comfortable there, it's actually a very safe place.
Dr alistair: Lotteries and indian casinos are like that, all take and no give. Vegas gives back a little more that most (for me at least..) the gunstore on tropicana Blvd has rental for the price of ammuntion $11 for 50 shots with free instruction. and you get to keep the target.
yvonne: She's fun to take...we can go off by ourselves when she wants to hit the spa and I want to shoot guns, then meet up for dinner and a show, it all works out.
I live only 5 hours from Vegas, have for most my life, and only been once to catch a plane. hehehehe
I'm with you on vacations. If we go with someone it's with people that are quite capable of going their own way and having their own fun and if we cross paths and have some fun togher horaay if not, see ya at the airport or in the room.
Hubby and I are super easy when it comes to vacations. If we can put on our scuba gear and get wet during the day and have a couple beers at night. Life is good!!!
I would love to go! I would drink, gamble & probably diddle with my DH.
My in-laws were there last week-end... they didn't gamble or anything but still had a wonderful time.
Pap and I don't like to vacation with anyone but each other too. We like to ramble through vacation, just stopping wherever we feel like. It drives everyone else nuts.
Dang I guess secreting me away in the luggage is out... I'm way overdue for a Vegas run!
Very good point about a vacation with just the wife. My Mrs and I always enjoy ourselves wherever we go but when we're with friends or family, it's always a challenge to please everybody at the same time.
My wish is to go on a luxury liner one day for a few weeks, with the Mrs of course and just escape from the routine of everyday life.
I've never been or wanted to go, but I understand the attraction. Lovely Wife and I are easy to please, and a quiet, clean hotel room and somebody else cooking is living high on the hog for us.
Plus, though I don't figure I'll ever go there, I would think that Vegas is the ULTIMATE place to people watch. Nothing like lots of money to bring freaks and weirdos from all over the world.
I know folks who budget in the gambling and when the money's gone, that's it. If they win, they wire some home to their account, knowing that their whole trip was just paid for.
I would like to go if I could find that casino that Eddie (Randy Quaid) to Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) to; the one with scissors-paper-rock, pick a number between one and ten, and games like that. I'd be all over that.
if you ever feel like getting a tattoo there let me know I know a guy out there who owns two parlours Im sure he would give you a discount. Btw I think Im the only one in my family not to go (brother was married there when I was heavily pregnant)
Can you buy drugs there?
burfica: try it you'll like it something for everyone :)
alekx: I've tried it with others and they are just so damn hard to please, ends up stressing me.
skinnyblonde: There are museums, nature attractions, conventions, shopping and everything, too much to do in even three trips.
kat: that's how I do it now.
cheesy: I'll just put you in the overhead bin ;)
Lexcen: my wife wants to go on a cruise but I'm not so hot on boats, I'm sure I'll compromise sooner or later.
JAM: lol that sounds like some of the downtown places. The Star trek museum and interactive ride are where all the weirdos hang out when they are out of money ;)
judith: Lots of Vegas marriages some of them in tattoo parlors ;)
mutleythedog: It's funny, since vegas is so dependednt on tourism they run the place with an iron fist. 5 dollar theft is a felony and undercover cops everywhere.
However, they do serve old lesbian number 6 on draft at O'sheas and have 50 cent blackjack special starting at 6:00am
Hey, I walked out of an Indian casino with 1200 bucks one night. It's the best I ever did in a casino. But it was in Arizona, not Nevada.
I also walked away with 800 bucks in a keno club that had pull tabs, that was in Nebraska. The really cute bartender almost went with me but she wasn't sure about hopping into an eighteen wheeler to go off into the wild unknown. LOL
It's okay, on top of the 800 bucks I left with, I left her with 300 bucks worth of pull tabs as tips to look at after her shift.
I hope that she did well with them.
never been
no real desire to go
i prefer the beach
but... with the RIGHT group of people, maybe i would go
maybe
sounds like a migraine masquerading as a city
thankyou for posting pictures, strangely i have never seen a pic of that egyptian theme; anyway i did work in reno for awhile; how long do you think it would take to see all or most of las vegas in a tourist state of mind visit? and i was wondering, and i shouldnt but married people shouldnt be considering anything except family things. ok your site is real exciting and i need excitement so thankyou .
BBC: thats a damn good haul. I was tipping the waitress in place once and she wanted the keno cards instead of cash. It was weird contributing to a gambling addiction but as long as she was bringing the beer and pretzels...
infinitesimal: You would like it. The pool, spa, italian food, scenery all good.
Anon: Thanks for visiting. If you wanted a first timers quick and dirty, 4 or 5 nights would do it. that would let you see the major themed casinos and attractions, mirage, wynnn, cesears, NY NY, MGM (Luxor and the 4th floor magic motion rides) Venetian,Mandalay bay,House of blues, Bellagio, (Excaliber Louis Anderson plays nightly must see),Imperial palace car museum, Osheas, Fashion show mall, maggiano's italian restaurant, The Parisian Breakfast Buffet and If you have time Downtown has been revitalized and has some neat stuff too.
Stay away from time share people unless you want to be a hostage for 4 hours.
There is also Hoover Dam close by
Hope this helps
I've never been to Vegas, been to a casino though - think if I had money I could have a lot of fun - last time I went I spent $10 (NZ) and felt bummed out about THAT!! hahaha
I usually ask the cabbies for a menu the minute I step off the plane and get in the cab to my hotel.
If you have never done this, I won't spoil the surprise...lets just say that it is a very expensive menu and it usually takes you all night to eat the 7 course meal they serve up.
