In case you were wondering..if not oh well.

I've been doing the blog thing since June. Before that I just checked out the lawdog files and Mad Ogre once in a while. Once I saw how much fun everyone was having figured it was time to jump in.

Seems like everyone nowadays has a blog of some sort. I would venture to say that 80% of them are soon neglected then forgotten like that exercise bike in the corner of the bedroom.

In the 4 1/2 months Since starting this blog I've already met dozens of interesting friendly people. You know who you are so I won't name everyone and risk forgetting somebody and causing a scene.

I'll take a few lines to tell you a little about myself.

My family moved from Kansas City to New Mexico in 1978 then to Texas in 1982. I did most of my growing up here. South Texas isn't a bad place to live except for May through October when it is so frigging hot you can put groceries in your shorts and do crotch pot cooking.

Went to work and school full time after graduating high school, met my future wife in college and got married in 1991. Been through quite a few strange jobs, met some odd people and had some interesting experiences along the way.

I adopted my first child in 1998 from child protective services. Everything worked out and he is a happy, intelligent and well adjusted 10 year old despite the obstacles faced by kids coming out of the "system". I've been self employed ever since due to the fact I'm not keen on strangers raising my kids when I'm off at work.

We adopted two girls 18 months ago. They are sisters only 9 months apart ; once again out of the child welfare system. Despite them having a really tough early childhood (future blog entry). They are doing really well and are in kindergarten and first grade respectively.

These days I spend most of my time being a full time dad, tutoring, doing homework, teacher conferences, entertaining and mentoring my three kids. I'm really a tough bastard when it comes to obedience and discipline but consistency and firm guidance seem to make the kids feel safe and secure.

I am not a very religious person, however I do let the kids go with their Grandparents to church on Sundays because I think it's good for them in particular to have a well rounded moral base. As long as they don't come home speaking in tongues and handling poison snakes I'm ok with them having some religion.

My hobbies are guns, cars, music, cooking, and reading, history and science.

I was raised a vegetarian and have not eaten meat in over 30 years but I have no moral problem with hunting, or animals as food. Everyone else in my family is a carnivore.

My politics are conservative/libertarian, pretty much live and let live and your rights end where mine begin.

Well that's enough about me.

You must be a great person. Adopting 3 children is not a joke. I admire you.

I agree with Kirsten you really do sound like a great person. Those kids will have a richer life because of you and your wife...that's wonderful.

Oh and "crotch pot cooking" ROFL!
