Gun show

Sunday morning I decided to take my son to the gun show. I hadn't been to one since they moved it to the coliseum. I guess it must be a couple of years at least. As we were getting ready my oldest daughter decided she would rather go with me to the gun show instead of to church with her sister...that's my girl!
We got out there and the first thing was they charged 3 bucks to park. that was annoying but whatever. The guy at the door only charged me for admission and let the kids in free which I appreciated.
Once inside, I was disappointed to see most of the tables still covered in blankets..and the vendors nowhere to be found. It was almost an hour into the show when they finally decided to mosey in and start setting up.
I was rather disappointed in this show many of the vendors I used to frequent were nowhere to be found and ammo prices are triple what they were last year. Gun prices are at least double...I ended up buying only emergency supplies of cartridges that I was nearly out of.
Thanks King Barry...
I ended up buying a bag of jerky, a stuffed animal for the daughter, an airsoft Uzi for my son and a pair of gold and garnet earrings for the wife.
I guess I'm going to dust off my reloading supplies now that most ammo is a buck a round. I can't see how anyone can afford to go shooting these days.
Here are some of the prices:
Blazer .380 auto $35 for 50
Winchester .44mag $45 for 50
Remington 9mm $27 for 50
Federal .45acp $47 for 50
Wolf 7.62x39 $10 for 20
500 round brick .22 long rifle was $37
I guess the only thing that brightened my day is that pretty much everything in my gun collection has gone up in value tremendously. I'm glad I invested when I did.

The kids had a good time and the wife got some rest so it turned out to be a pretty good day after all.

Shooting is on my bucket list. I need to get myself into one of those gun shows. They're everywhere in Miami...but I went to one years ago and everyone in the place looked like a gangster. I was happy to get out of there alive.
Good that you got your kids out to see one soon. We have one coming up in a few weeks here and even though I know prices will be absurd, I still want to attend. It won't be long before they try to shut them down all together.
at least shotgun shells are still plentiful and cheap in these parts! tried to get some .22 shells and they cannot seem to keep them on the shelves.
it's nice to see father and children bonding in such a manner...*;]
p.s. - .357 shells = EXPENSIVE!
The reloading sounds like a plan, your right the prices I've seen are out the roof. Been buying most of my 22cal. from a feed/hardware guy that has a gun selling license,a little cheaper and so far available,The 357 & 38sp+P stuff is real expensive and harder to get.Thank goodness I had stocked up on 223 & 243 rounds a couple yrs ago,I had paid attention to a paranoid cuz of mine, when he pointed out that guns would be controlled by ammo availability,I called him up in GA.,the other day and thanked him.Believe it's gonna get a hellava lot worse.
You bought EARRINGS at the "gun show"?
I don't wear earrings but a gold and garnet bracelet or necklace could entice me to go to a gun show I suppose. ;)
Me and hubs have talked about going to a shooting range sometime and just learning a little bit. I don't necessarily want to own a gun and he doesn't hunt or collect them but knowing some basic information and how to handle a couple of them wouldn't be a bad idea.
Was it a "Guns West" show? That stops by here every few months. I am seriously considering (again) letting go of a few of mine just for the money. Its so hard to part with any of them but these three may have to go:
Ruger M77, .243 bolt action rifle
H&K USP 40SW handgun
Winchester 30/30 lever action rifle
*snif!* Such an uplifting post! Guns and ammo!
went to an ammo place a few months ago with a friend on the way home from a ride to daffodil hill...smile
they said they could hardly keep ammo in stock...and no one was questioning the prices. They do mostly internet sales.
Garnet eh? is her birthday in january?
yeah, the law of supply and demand. At least Wally World is not greedy when they do have ammo...100 rounds of .45acp is still under forty bucks...if they have it
I keep my special rounds loaded in two clips for home and personal protection and I get my reloads from a guy I work with 50 rds .40 for 11 bucks.. Not bad. At least you had you kids with you at the gunshow. That's a good thing
The high cost of ammo doesn't bother me at all since I don't have a gun - also I'm guessing the criminal types will perhaps be a little more careful with it too so it's less likely I'll get shot.
Up here in the boonies it's even hard to get powder for reloading! UPS, and the US postal service refuse to ship it. We would have to drive to a supplier and transport it ourselves. A 600 mile round trip kinda adds to the price of the powder. :(
If I had to choose one gun, I'd take a deuce deuce anyday.
They sell earrings at the gun show? That's odd because I've never seen guns for sale at a jewelry show.
terri,
years ago when I was young, in a more innocent world, there was a jewelry store in Barrington, Illinois that would display upscale handguns in the streetside window display case alongside the jewelry; that's where I experienced love at my first sight of a snub Colt Python. They often shoooed me away from their window...
I have an early model S&W .44 Magnum (pre model-29) that the original owner says he bought at Marshall Field's.
Ah, for a return to the old days ...
Where was this at? Somewhere here in SA?
Flyinfox: yeah freeman collesium next to the at&t center. I think once per month. It's worth a visit at least once. They also have them at the alzafar shrine on 1604 every 6 weeks or so.
At least ammo is still legal to buy. For now.
Dude! Only three bucks for parking? Shit, they charge us $7 for parking and the last time I went admission was $9, kids under 11 $5.
Yeah, ammo prices are through the roof right now. I have pretty good stock on every caliber I own and shit-loads of deuce-deuce. When I go shooting these days, that's pretty much all I take with me is the deuce-deuce. The rest of my cache is in air tight ammo cans ready for when the SHTF. I'm gonna need something to barter for food smokes and beer with.
I like the Taurus Judge. That thing looks fun!
And as you said, I'm glad I invested when I did! I think the last couple shows I went to I put a grand on my Visa each time for ammo, cleaning supplies and more ammo. That was probably more than a year ago. I have to invest in a re-loader this next time, and I'm not going half-ass. I'm gonna buy quality...
I've been stocking up on ammo for a while now. I pretty much just shoot the 22 for fun. I wonder who is supplying the brothers. Do they get Bullet stamps along with the food stamps and welfare checks?
JP: good question. It's not like they can steal any because the stores are empty. Maybe ACORN has a big supply.
Last gun show I went too, I paid $25 for a brick of Thunderbolt .22 lead nose and $21 for 50 round packs of .38 special 158 grain.
Prices are ridiculously high. But at least parking is free for me,and no entry fee seeing I work the GCO table sometimes. That is about the only good news from gun shows for me.
Yea, people are always amazed that I walk away from a Gun Show with bags of Jerky and jewelry. I tell them they should go to one and see what they can find.
And yea, the ammo is crazy now. But I've probably got more than I'll ever be able to shoot, so I'm not too pissed about it. Like my AKs. If you've got a room full, the fact that they've shot up in price isn't really as shitty as it sounds.
