I miss the cold war.
This war on terror isn't near as much fun because unlike the cold war, we don't have a definite clear enemy to hate.
When I was growing up everyone hated the Russians, Commies, Reds, Pinkos and Socialists.
It felt good to know who your enemy was. It gave the country direction. It made going to work feel good. We were out-producing, out-spending and generally kicking the economic tar out of the USSR and the Eastern bloc.
What are we fighting now? Islam? Terrorists? Islamic fundamentalists?, Islamofacists? Islamicists? Rag heads? I really don't know and it really isn't polite to ask.
We are trying to befriend people that would like to see us dead or bent over with our burka pulled up over our shoulders.
The main problem is we just can't aim at one particular target and get Americans riled up and patriotic again like they were for a week or so after 9/11.
On 9/11 we were really mad at Al Queda and Bin Laden. Now with all these conspiracy theories and other nonsense the mainstream media wants us to believe 4o% of Americans think the towers were an inside job.
When we were pissed off at the Ruskies we propagandized, played spy games and talked tough but in the end mutually assured destruction kept everyone in line.
Now we have to be sensitive about offending Muslims, not stepping on toes, not profiling at airports and valuing diversity while simultaneously preventing the nut bags from blowing our stuff up.
We have people protesting how we treat terrorists, wanting to open our borders to all comers, and anyone who disagrees gets to hear insults comperable to those found on a 2nd grade playground.
Even the most rabid foaming at the mouth schizophrenic nonsense spewed in Congress, on the news and on the net is getting plenty of positive attention. It's like a big chunk of the American population had a lobotomy. It's almost as if people want to cave in to our enemies thinking that will make them just go away.
Whats worse is the growing opinion that Americans are the terrorists. We are not perfect for sure but putting our country in the same league as Syria and Iran is ridiculous if not downright irresponsible.
Many from the American left act overjoyed whenever one of our soliders comes home in a box. It sickens me they way they dance in the blood to further their twisted political goals... cough Sheehan cough...
I'm sure our enemies are loving every sodding second of it.

the line to differentiate these groups of ppl is so fine. it is so ironical that ppl are using their religion to create a world of war. wat is their motive? power hunger? seeking 'revenge'?
if only there is someone out there who can find a reason or way to make them stop..
